Well I've gone and done it. I went and installed a muffler. But this muffler I was happy to install. It a 3" in and 3" out with straight pipe through it. Designed much like a glass pack but not. Best part NAPA has them in stock for super cheap price. NAPA - Muffler - EXH 21468 http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Result.aspx?Ntt%3d21468%26Ntk%3dKeyword%26Nty%3d1%26Dn%3d0%26D%3d21468%26Dk%3d1%26Dp%3d3%26N%3d0 It really quiet after all the years of straight pipe it super quiet. People are going to wonder if I sold my truck.

Hello All, I have been to this site many many times. It is a great site, and the search functions work great. However, now I am in need of help, and the search function did not tell me much. So here is my story.I drive a 99 dodge ram 2500 4x4 with the 5 speed manual. An edge EZ is my only known mod (I bought the truck when it had 250,000 on it), I added fuel pressure and boost gauges (based on opinions from this site). 260,000 miles. I am moving my wife, 10 month old, 2 dogs, and a cat 1900 miles from MT to PA for a job, so I got my trusty dodge loaded up and am hauling a 16 ft flatbed loaded to the gills with all my worldly possessions. I am driving down the …

Ok Gang...While I was out on my camping trip and hauling around my 31' Jayco Eagle Travel Trailer I had some weird fuel pressure problems occuring. Start up cold and get 17.5 just about 18 PSI at a idle and then pull the grade up to New Meadows, ID still holding 16 PSI which is normal and fine. But now as the day got hotter and we got down around Council, ID the pressure fell off to 12.5 at WOT and idled at 15 PSI. Hua??? While I was stopped the at one place I played with bumping the starter and you can see 17-18 PSI and then hear a change in pump pitch and the pressure fall again to 15 PSI. It's like the check ball is hanging up again. So I'm going to pull it back apart…

  7. I used to monitor the fuel pressure with an Dakota Digital electric gauge. After 8 years of service the ULSD ate the pressure sender so I replaced the gauge with an ISSPRO mechanical and isolator. Same arrangement just different gauge. Its been on there for about 2 years now but even though it reads quite accurately, it does something odd. At idle the gauge needle is solid around 20 psi and when cruising along down the freeway the gauge is solid at around 18 psi. Then all of a sudden the needle will "bob" down a couple psi and quickly return. Its a more fluid action as this is a mechanical gauge but is also very random and kinda hard to watch for too. But.....if I'…

  8. For those who may have an answer..... I recently noticed while on a long hot highway camping adventure over the weekend that my boost pressure would do something I cant fully explain. For those of you who know my style, I generally dont pull with very hot EGT's. For me 1200* is HOT and I prefer to stay under that temperature just because it keeps the engine temperatures happier.....and its just really hot in my opinion. Nonetheless, grossing about 22k pounds, I was pulling hard up some long grades and because of the immense summer triple digit heat it was hard to keep the EGT's from climbing up to the 1200* range under heavy throttle. Not really…

My vp is going.I am driving it once in a wile.It surges bad.Today i have dead pedal every 1000 ft.It is giving me 117 and 122.The temp is fine and the apps check out good.( new timbo)Can the vp computer just freak out?The ecm seems fine nothing wierd.Have to park it until i can get new pump.My thinking here is the computer on the vp is trying to get info from the ecm and it does not compute because it is bad. What strange codes did you ever here of with a bad vp.Thanks.

  10. I recently bought a scan gauge II. since install I have noticed while idling the reading for the apps sensor will jump from 0% to 10%, + or - a little. It does this very intermittently and only for a split second. I notice no change in the engine rpm just the sensor reading. Anyone else see a similar reading on theirs?

I have a problem that is bothering me. I suspect the lift pump is going bad but I want to be sure before Idrop the money on a new one. This has been a rough couple of weeks and money is tight.I had my gauge acting up and bouncing all over (Glowshift). They sent me a new sender and all was good. Took it for a test ride and verified that I had pressure. Not real good pressure but 12lbs. at idle and 6 at WOT with the Quad on. Was talking to a friend and the pressure just dropped to zero. Power off type of drop, not gradual. Truck stayed running. Shut it down and restarted it and pressure came up for a little bit and then off again. Put a mechanical gauge on along with the el…

this happened to me 3 times yesterday coming home. i stopped and bought a drink. when pulling back on the four lane i hammered it and it took off. hit 20#s of boost, 800* egt and and it would hardly go any further. egt was moving up and down 500* fluidly not jerky. let off the throttle, slowed and hit again. same thing only went a little faster and higher on the gauges. did it a few more times and after 1 or 1 1/2 mile it was working just fine. the second time i stopped for fuel and it was doing it again only this time i noticed my ect gauge was only reading 150*. bought my fuel and looked under the hood. saw nothing out of the ordinary. upper radiator hose felt very norm…

  13. OK, so I have my ideas about what this might be. Anxious to hear your thoughts.A few times now I have turned the key to start the truck and let go before the engine catches. So, I just twist the key for too short a time and the engine doesn't catch. Then I try again and it will crank and crank and now start for almost exactly an hour. Then it starts right up.There is an aftermarket alarm on the truck and I have no remote. Not sure if it ever had one. I cannot smell fuel in the tail pipe while cranking; so, no fuel is being delivered. When it does start, I will fire right up with just a small puff of black smoke at the tailpipe. So I don't think there is a ton of fuel flow…

I have been having a ticking noise from the engine that seems to parallel the rpm of the engine. it only becomes noticeable when slowing down for a turn or stopping. I have checked manifold for cracks adjusted valves and all new injectors. Hold down clamps are tight... Any other suggestions before I take it to the Mechanic to double check valve lash and diagnose the ticking?

Hey there so I’m a noob to this forum but not the cummins scene. I have utilized this forum for tons of info in the past with great success... until now I’ve never not found the answer. Long story short I installed a quadzilla adrenaline in my 02 2500. 10 seconds after starting the truck started smoking(so bad the fire dept was called by 3 neighbors) and developed an intense fuel knock. Contacted quadzilla and sent the module in, they confirmed it was a dud and replaced it. The iquad was claiming with the truck off that it made 42psi of boost off the map sensor(replaced the map with a cummins sensor as per Marco at quadzilla recommendation when the original sensor was fin…

First I will share I have a new lift pump and TPPS and crank sensor. this truck has the modifyed relay installed a few years ago. Today I had time so I put a test light to the Red and Green wire key on power source for the FP relay and also powers the VP 44 pump as far as I understand. When the engine is cycling off the power to the red/green wire goes away. there are no codes present at this time Adding short video. I'll add its a 1999 2500 with auto Thanks for any help.

Hi Guys.. new here, but have been reading as a guest for a while. I’m always amazed at how knowledgable a lot of you guys are and all the helpful information available. Here’s my situation, and I’ll try to remember a much detail as I can and in the proper sequence. Last year my truck was sitting for about 7-8 months without use. I was helping one of my parents out of town and wasn’t able to do much else. So when I got home, my truck batteries were totally dead. These were new batteries, maybe 4 months old prior to leaving. I couldn’t get them to take a charge. Took them in, load tested, replaced. Then the truck’s EVS II system wouldn’t disarm and I think the d…

  20. Ok - so had tranny TC + VB replaced.Just had the evap/heater core replaced.Picked up the truck and I hear a funny sound - hard to describe - like a very low/dull whir/thud that "appears" to match engine rpm - making me think drivelineInitial thought was TC bolts - so I looked at them and they seemed tight with no play.If I had to say as a "guess" it sounds more like its coming from the block itself. Hard to say. Its very low compared to fan/engine and like a low whirring/thud sound as engine shaft spins.Could it be valves or something - I know we tightened my valves a few months back and no issues and not much play to begin with ?? Any other thoughts ??No codes ........ I…
