I may or may not have asked about this before. I searched but didn't find anything so here we go. My truck is a 2001 3500. Is this KDP I've read about an issue or was it resolved before my truck was built? I have a mechanic at work (trucking comoany) that says I need to tear into the front of the engine and put a tab washer on the bolt closest to this pin to stop it from backing out. I have read about it quite a bit and got no definitive answer as to whether or not they fixed the issue by '01 model year. Any input? Thanks all! Also, sorry if this has been discussed before, maybe I don't know how to use the search correctly.

(Shaking my head) Yup. Head gasket blew out again. This time it was a defective gasket. The composite material on the steel plate separated and blew out. Thursday night I gather up my RV and hitched it up and hauled it out to the forest at Smokey Boulder Rd. Came back home the next day I got off work and grabbed The Beast and rolled into town to get fuel. I seen Fire Chief's wife getting diesel fuel. Pulled into Riggins One Stop and parked as I got out I was teasing Matt that was sitting outside smoking a cigarette. I walked over and talled to Melanie about Fire Dept Business. After about 15 minute I walk back over and my truck is leaking. Matt sa…

  3. New annual member here. I'm hoping someone on this site can help figure out what's causing the stall issue. Without writing a novel, as I have on other forums, I'll be as brief as possible and try to provide as much info to help repliers and to ward off 50million posts that will just skew and clog this thread. In advance, no offense intended and I welcome all well thought thru replies, Thanks. I acquired my truck (wish I could figure out how to create a signature?) in May of 2001 it had 75k on it and bone stock. July 2001 installed gauges: combo boost/egt, fuel psi and trans temp. Spring 2003 with 130k trans started slipping, had DTT master rebu…

  4. So, before you guys tell me to search if this has been answered before, believe me, I've searched this forum and the other Cummins forums to the point where I can't even think anymore I'm soo tired. I've been having torque converter lockups for a long time on my 2001. I've done every rewire out there, even bought the "sponge" (capacitor) from ATS to compliment their transmission and it still doesn't like being in between 30 and 40, you give it any throttle and it jumps back to 3rd and let off and its back into 4th... I've long suspected the alternator but it always tests clean, I'll get to that in a moment. So this weekend, I decided due to excessi…

Before I installed a used Quadzilla Adrenaline I could get boost at around 1500 to 1700 rpm is when you could really notice it. After install and using a stock race or tow tune I have nothing until I’m over 2200 rpm. I like to shift at 2k with my 6 speed. The IQuad app is showing no boost. My pillar gauge says it’s there. My question is do I have to adjust the tune and how would I go about doing so?

  6. 1999 dodge Cummins 2500 truck has 168k with a DDT tranny installed about 120k miles ago . It has a smart controller installed to keep the torque converter locked up for the BD exhaust brake to slow me down while hauling my slide in camper . Third / forth gear lockup at 50 mph kicks out at 30 mph. 275 hp Rv injectors and edge set on high about 300 hp. Tranny built for this much horsepower. This my set up. 10 amp fuse in PDF blows when key is turned on. Has code p0753. Relay is good horn test. And pin 21 on the PCM READS 33.3 OHMS. Pan has not been down yet. I need good advice on what to do next ?

  7. Hey everyone, I bought my first diesel about a year ago and have been learning a ton through you all here. Thanks so much for this forum! From my research, it seems common for the 5.9's to 'mark their territory' with a little drop of oil. After driving the truck and then parking it, it seems to leave 3-5 drops of oil. I shared a picture underneath the truck where the drops seem to be coming from, but honestly couldn't figure out what this part is. I read the FSM and think maybe it's my VP44? Any advice on if a few drops of oil is normal, should I fix this asap, or not worry about it? thanks! Jared

  8. On my 1999 I used to go to the hardware store and buy a small roll of window screen. Each spring I would put in a new piece and remove it in the fall. But while traveling pulling hard grades hauling heavy and hotter weather I have over heated a time or two. Just would like to see what others have been doing with this issue also.

Was a nice guy yesterday and gave a friend a jump start, wasn't watching when he hooked up and now I've got a water in fuel light and a check engine light. Scanned it and have a p0237 and a P1693 code, it will not let me clear them. Ideas? Please tell me he didn't fry my ECM. Mark

  10. Have a late 02 ran 2500. Cummins automatic 4x4. Truck has a issue believed to be failed MAP sensor. Tried two different scan tools and neither connect to the Engine. I can communicate with PCM and watch data on the scanner. It wont let me communicate and watch data on the Engine side. I can check engine DTCs but once I hit DATA DISPLAY it says no communication. Have checked and all fuses, and wiring appears to be perfect based on a quick visual inspection. Have not pulled out the DMM yet to check. Engine starts, truck runs. OBDII has power. Anyone ran into this issue before?

  11. I been working on The Beast to get it running once again. So far every time I offer to take Eileen anywhere for dinner the truck stopped charging. No joke. Then come back the next day fire it up and runs and charges fine. I drove up the highway to to friends places to show off the truck a bit and give aid with projects. Then Sunday night tried a repeat. Eileen comes to jump in and just as I leave the driveway the check gauges pops back on and charging stopped again. I did run the codes off the odometer really quick last night. P1682 and P1389 if I remember correctly. P1682 is low charging voltage P1389 is a ASD relay no power seen fro…

Must be the year of head gaskets, because mines leaking as well, but im trying to hold off a little longer so I can be without the truck for a time. But I'm not sure if I'm leaking from another spot in the front as well? There is a plug that is underneath the thermostat housing that seems to be wet, even after driving a while. I know it's leaking above it, but that evaporates during the drive, while from the plug down, it doesn't. I can't tell if there is coolant leaking from the waterpump as well. I wipe it clean, start the truck, and I can see coolant coming up around between the pump and block, but that could be trapped coolant that is coming up betwee…

  14. Hello, I’ve got a 2001 3/4 ton 4wd auto quad cab diesel. About a week ago I changed the lower and upper dash, heater core and clock spring. My problems are the following items are not powering up. Cruise control light will not come on, no lights in dash or cluster, (all gauges in instrument cluster work, odometer and trip meter work) ODB connector no power, dome lights not working (though they could’ve been out before the dash change). I’ve checked fuses for continuity in the fuse box in the dash. I haven’t checked to see if they have power. I’ve gone over all of the connections that i disturbed during the dash replacement. The three connections on the b…

“CRUISE” Indicator light in dash is defective. Manual indicates it’s a PC74 Bulb. However, if I’m going in to replace 1, I’d like to swap all to LED, if that’s possible, since all my other lights are LED. I thought I’d read discussion on doing this, but searches revealed nothing. Thanks

  16. Everything you wanted to know about the VP44 Injection Pump but were afraid to ask. I don't know if these guys do rebuilds or what but he knows his way around the pump:

Catching up maintenance so I a fluid change in the tranny is in order. I had notice some slop in the shifter so I ordered a new button for the knob on end of the tower. Got the thing apart abd the stayed in the tranny which seemed a bit odd to me but maybe it is that worn. Looking at knob its football shaped for lack of better term. The one on the right is the one I took off beside the spare I have. This might show it better. The button had some wear but not much. It still snapped on the spare where it just falls on and off of the one out of the tranny. My little pea brain always told my self that the button would go …

Relative of my son in law wanted to try Pennzoil's new Platinum Series oil in an '03(?) Dodge Cummins. Apparently they make a Diesel rated oil, Pennzoil Platinum Euro, and others made from Natural Gas. Long story short they picked up the wrong oil, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, which isn't CF rated and wanted to know if he should dump it immediately or run with it for a while. A well used '03 diesel engine makes plenty of blowby by now and there's no way a gasser oil will handle the soot. I'm thinking a short turn around time, 2500 miles or so, probably won't kill the engine. Also guessing the oil will turn black real quick which might be an indicator that it's time t…

  19. Need some help. I’m The second owner of the truck, 175,000 miles. All originally stock, only modifications is an air dog lift pump and a heater grid delete. When I disconnected the batteries to do the lift pump install a few months ago, I did an APPS reset using the throttle pedal. When I start and idle the truck over the past week, I can smell what seems like unburnt diesel from the exhaust pipe. After a few minutes driving down the road and at a stoplight, before the engine is it operating temperature, I can still smell the rich diesel, and inside the cab my eyes start to burn. No codes are being thrown, no check light is on. I was pulling my boat yesterday, 6…

  20. A few times now since I got my oil leak stopped, I have tried to normally start my truck and got absolutely NOTHING. Before I turn the key to the start position everything appears normal. Dash lights, key in ignition bell, etc. all work. The moment I try to start the truck, ( after checking that the "wait to start icon" is off) , I hear a "click" and everything turns off - no dash lights, no starter, nothing! It is like I have no battery installed. Thinking that my massive oil leak may have caused an electrical connection problem, I cleaned all terminals and reattached all battery and starter cables, and checked battery voltage, and checked fuses. All seemed in …
