I've been on the fence about using 2 stroke oil...Until today. I like to fill up on fuel when gauge is around 1/2. Questions... 1. Is your formula 1 oz per 1 gallon? 2. When filling your tank around 1/2 do you pour in 15 oz all at once or ....??? What is your method. Thanks

Hi Guys,I've just been using an extra large cresent wrench to loosen & tighten my plug, & being very careful not to round off the corners. My sockets only go up to an inch or so in standard & 24mm in metric. The next time I go to the tool store I'd like to purchase a dedicated 6 point socket just for the plug.I also saw a magnet that attaches to the oil filter in one of my catalogs, do the work? I think most of the stuff getting in the oil is non-magnetic anyhow! Thanks,Dave

Hey guys so this is my first post, I've been searching the Interweb for days/weeks trying to find a cause for my problem, hoping to get some help so here goes. Recently picked up this 2001 ram 2500 24v with a blown head gasket. I pulled the head, had it checked, cleaned everything and put it back together. Everything went great till i tried starting it. It will start, but as soon as its started it revs almost as if it was a run away. I can shut it down with the key so i know its not running away. I have my 5v at the apps, I've check the ecm pins all for power. Im not a electrical guru so I'm in desperate need of some help. Ive tried the apps reset with no avail. Hitting t…

Hi everyone!! I've don't quite a bit of reading on this forum (and many others) and finally decided to sign up. Ive Had this truck going on 3 years now and i know the guy i bought it from and how well he took care of it. Well the trouble all started last summer in July. There was a lightning storm and i believe it fried the ECM in my truck. After some digging I got my hands on a used ECM out of a 2001 6spd. It had the same cummins part number as the original. Once i installed it I had quite a few codes being thrown (215, 237, 380, 382, 522, 1488, 1689, 1693) and the truck would only Idle and if i pressed the fuel pedal it would jump right up to about 1…

  8. I have recently bought my first Dodge Cummins, I have been a ford guy prior and am retiring my 1993 7.3L F350 with 330k miles on it. Anyway my pickup is a '02 4X4 5-Speed, all was well for the first week or so that I owned it then it started to the this surging thing, it usually surges between 1500-1900rpm, under load, like accelerating or going up a hill, sometime way worse than other times. [*]I don't show any error codes with the ignition switch way of looking [*]I have reset the APPS [*]I have cleaned my grounds [*]Happens while both while using cruise control and not using cruise control Seems like a Timbo APPS has fixed things similar to t…

  9. What type of metal should I use for the BHAF heat shield and thickness? Going to put in this weekend if I can get the right metal to cut. the other question is the heat blanket attached to the top of the hood does that need to come off too?

  10. I need help here. I have a 2001 with the 6 speed. The clutch went out a couple weeks ago so I decided to do some long overdue work on the truck while tackling the clutch job. I put a new south bend dd in and a new slave cylinder assembly. I also changed the drivers fender as well and pressure washed the entire engine and undercarriage. The truck ran perfect when I shut it off to do all the work. I have the air dog 2 with a 2 year old industrial injection vp44. I've always had 20 psi fuel pressure at idle with about 17 at WOT. When I got everything back together and started the truck, it idles perfect but it won't rev above 2000 rpm and started defueling causing a missing …

  11. Those with block heaters, and use them, I have a question..How "hot" does your coolant get when plugged in overnight? I realize this could be dependent on ambient temps, possibly, but I'm curious. As an example, my block heater heats the coolant to ~100*F when plugged in overnight. Is this a normal temp for these things? Seems my '96 got hotter than that, but not 100% positive.

  12. I hate to speak to soon but I can hardly control myself. I finally found the permenant fix for the torque convertor locking and unlocking. Its an nv4500! I found a donor truck on CL and got the guy down to $1800. its a 2000 model and it was a dually but had been converted into a mud truck. The owner rolled it 30 minutes into his first outing and the cab and driverside body got destroyed but the motor and trans/transfercase are still good. best part is I shouldnt have to source any parts except a shifter boot. Getting it for such a good price should enable me to at least break even when I sell the engine and my auto trans/transfer case. My auto is still good and has good f…

Hey guys, So I'm finally getting close to ordering some DFI injectors! I spoke with Chris yesterday and after chatting about my truck and goals for a bit he recommended some of their 100hp .009 injectors. Now at the same time I'm also looking at rebuilding my hx35. I already have a rebuild kit from DAP, so I was planning to pick up a worn out stock turbo and rebuild it because I need a new compressor wheel as mines got a knick in one of the blades. Anyway, all this got me thinking that maybe there is a better option turbo wise. I have an edge comp right now and honestly, switching from the smarty had me disappointed with the lag. Smarty had zero lag, instant boost an…

Hi All, My exhaust brake has been loosing it's verve so I took the truck to Banks Engineering, well, because they are not too far from here and thought it would be fun to visit the mother ship. It was very fun!!! They gave me a tour of the campus, except the military work section, because then they would have to kill me. They are super nice and it's very impressive operation. But I digress. So they told me the diaphragm is good on the exhaust brake can, that was my theory, and the Banks system tested out from the manufacturer. They didn't even charge me for that inspection. Super nice people! What they told me is my vacuum pump is not …

  15. My filter canister is leaking, and am going to replace the o-ring in the heater element hoping that will fix it. But, if that's not it, I'm afraid the canister might be cracked at the very top on the aft side. So my question is, how important is the fuel heater? My choices for getting rid of the stock canister are the $360 kit from Rich at Glacier Diesel, which includes the fuel heater and WIF sensor, the non-heated version of that kit for $209, or the non-heated spin-on kit from Glacier for $150. I'm just looking for advice on the need for a fuel heater. I do live in Northern AZ, and it does get rather cold here in the winter. Thanks for the advice in advance. I like th…

W-T ground mod done, replaced alternator diode pack, and cleaned up and coated all grounds I could find with dielectric grease. Im still getting 0.033v at idle and I’m still having a lockup issue. My tc tries to lock early(40mph)under light throttle and then instantly unlocks until I gain a bit more speed and then will lock up again.

I have been looking at my boost gauge (adrenaline pulse monitor) and I haven't seen go pass 15 to 16 psi and thats steping on it on the hwy , its usually always around 5 to 8 . Sorry for asking this dumb questions but just trying to understand boost better Is this normal boost what I have? I am also asking this because on most of the tread I read that have to do with boost every body talks about getting 25 psi or 30ish psi reading , Is there some thing I need to check ? what is a boost elbow do I need one? Thanks for your comments.

  18. I installed a set of RV275's about two months ago. follwed Mike's instructions here and the install went well except for some weeping at the head. 3 of them at first and they just progressed to all of them leaking and not weeping. Also my return tee was leaking and I put new orings in it about two weeks after the injectors. In my infinite wisdom i did not even think about the bolt on the back of the head:doh:. Dont know why I just did not. Well it was still leaking and getting worse. So I went home this week end and tore it all apart and re did everything. This time I loosened the injectors and tightened the crossover tubes first and then tightened the injectors down.It i…

  19. All my attempts to explain the 53 casting number from Brazil that affected about 100,000 blocks that are prone to crack under stress of towing seems to have failed. I have been trying to sell my 1999 Cummins but one questions that shuts down the sale is the 53 Casting Number. The original owner towed a bumper pull RV from coast to coast for the first 150K miles, NO CRACKS. I have explained that it's not just the 1999s that cracked but some 12 valves with 53 blocks and 24 valves all the way to 2001. Some blocks that cracked were 54 castings and 55 castings according to what's online. Maybe there has been more castings, who knows? Are all 53s subject to cracking? If that's …

I have a 98.5 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 5.9 cummins and I have this weird tick noise at idle and also when I shift my truck from drive to reverse to park. In this video you can hear this ticking towards the end. I checked all my torque converter bolts and they are tight. Also you can see on some of the bolts that it looks like have been rubbing on metal. I am wondering if my flex plate is cracked and making this noise. Truck drives fine and has no power loss. Also the engine was rebuilt last summer and also has 18k on rebuild. What are your thoughts.? Watch "Flex plate broken?" on YouTube https://youtu.be/eo74OrnMqH4
