Hello, first post on here hoping I can figure out my issues with my 98 24v cummins, occasionally my truck upon start up with stick in either 2 or 3rd gear not sure which one upon putting it in drive, truck will not upshift or downshift until I put it in park turn it off then restart the truck then it will be fine start first gear shift through all the gears and go into overdrive, I pulled 2 codes scanning it with my tuner, P0753, P0748 AND P0743 this problem comes and goes but it always resolved with turning the truck off and restarting making me lean towards and electrical program rather than hardware issue, if anyone can help fix this greatly appreciated!!

Code p1694 won't go away after I got a new torque converter put in. Lack of power still and have checked all the connection on PCM/ECM grounds ext. could this be a issue between the governor solenoid and the PCM? Running out of ideas.

Starter Description The starter motors used for the 5.9L diesel engine and the 8.0L gasoline engine available in this model are not interchangeable with each other, or with the starter motors used for the other available engines. The starter motor for the 5.9L diesel engine is mounted with three screws to the flywheel housing on the left side of the engine. Each of these starter motors incorporates several of the same features to create a reliable, efficient, compact, lightweight and powerful unit. The electric motors of all of these starters have four brushes contacting the motor commutator, and feature four electromagnetic field coils wound around four pole shoe…

Engine Oil Pressure Sensor Signs / Symtoms Just noticed today that the oil pressure is way high while driving and not really moving even upon reaching operating coolant temperature. Driving oil pressure at low throttle is 60-70 PSI at full temperature and idling is right around 60 PSI. Here's the oil pressure gauge, full operating temperature while idling... Even before starting, the oil pressure gauge shows 40 PSI, then after start up right to the 60-70 mark and doesn't move much. I'm hoping this is just the sending unit and not a bearing or electrical problem. Just got some codes on the dash... p0523 p0522 Replacing The Oil Pressure Sensor …

MAP (Manifold Atmosphere Pressure) Sensor The MAP sensor is installed into the rear of the intake manifold. The MAP sensor reacts to air pressure changes in the intake manifold. It provides an input voltage to the Engine Control Module (ECM). As pressure changes, MAP sensor voltage will change. The change in MAP sensor voltage results in a different input voltage to the ECM. The ECM uses this input, along with inputs from other sensors to provide fuel timing, fuel control and engine protection. Engine protection is used to derate (drop power off) the engine if turbocharger pressure becomes to high. Mopar's Notes: This cleaning procedure will not correct any error…

Swapping between 98.5-00 & 01-02 Dodge Cummins ISB 24v VP44 Engines Many people need to change their engine out due to “53” blocks, catastrophic failures or just plain wear & tear. Most do not know about the differences between the two “Sub generations” as I will call them. I will try to explain it all in this article. I will also give known ways to accomplish the swap & why. I will also give an alternative way that I presume will work, but cannot guarantee.Firstly, for some basics. If at all possible, get a replacement engine of the same sub generation if at all possible to make your life easier. Second, if you must use an engine from a different sub g…

Here it is gang the Bosch VP44 Injection Pump fully disassembled. Here is the rotor and injection pump assembly. I stood the rotor assembly up and pull the pistons out of the rotor. Yes, these pins are the 3 pistons pumping together to create the high pressure. This of course, is the main shaft, vane pump and cam ring. Take notice to the 3 rollers and shoes below the main shaft. These 3 roller shoes ride in the slots of the main shaft and roll around inside the cam ring. Here is the timing piston. This is the piston that causes the infamous P0216 code. You can see the piston is galled up and this pump failed with the P0216 code. …

Date: September 3, 2001 Models: 1998 1/2-2002 BR/BE Ram Trucks (2nd Gen Cummins, 1998 .5, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002) NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO ALL RAM TRUCKS BUILT AFTER DECEMBER 17,1997 AND EQUIPPED WITH THE 24-VALVE 5.9L CUMMINS DIESEL ENGINE. Discussion: This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Engine Control Module (ECM) with new software (Cal 55Tl8, 57Tl1, 56Tl3, 59T7b, and 59T8b.) Symptom/Condition: Extended idle operation, especially in cold weather, can lead to stuck valves and bent push-tubes due to insufficient cylinder heat. This allows varnishes/oils to condense on the exhaust valve stems, leading to…

Appears my odbii connector is going bad, loose connection. When I connect my BT odbii device if I push it in one direction it might work for a bit then stop (meaning all leds go out etc.), I've tried 3 odbii devices all do the same thing, feel it's not my BT odb ii devices. Couple questions 1) Has anyone replaced there odb ii connector, if so any tips (from what I've read I can move wires to new connector similar to the old rs-232 serial) 2) I found a wire diagram of the odb ii posted in another forum by mopar1973man, I'm assuming that since odb ii a standard of sorts, wiring is universal but, diagram shows Fuse 12 inside cab of truck left of dash, is …

I got a call from a local gent that I done work for in the past. I replaced his lift pump and injection pump on his 1999 Dodge Ram. He called up today and told me of his tale of limping to New meadows and having the truck die on him. What he described was low fuel pressure with weak power. I told him to come and pick me up and we would roll out and look it over. After checking over the basic stuff I'm not hearing the Raptor lift pump running. I opened a test port and purged the system and it barely crawled up to 5 PSI. Ok. So I cranked up the regulator and got it up to 20 PSI for now to get it home. It last about 2 block and got weak again. Hmmm... Test gauge again... Fir…
