2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

  1. I’ve read Mike’s comments on the AC compressor cycling, and tend to agree that it shouldn’t cycle if performing correctly. However, I’ve noticed mine will cycle with the heat on (defrost). Is this a normal function?

2 things happening right now, could they be related? When I turn the truck on, the ac only blows through the defrost vents, if I turn the ac off and back on it blows through whichever vent I select. Also, abs light and brake light are on. No codes. ABS module was sent off to Atlanta and rebuilt a few years ago. New front brake lines 500 miles ago. GN horse trailer currently hitched up, I unplugged the trailer connector and still getting abs/brake light. 4x4 works. Any ideas on a good place to start. edit*- took the truck/trailer down the driveway with the connector unplugged and that cleared the abs light. Ac issue still present.

  3. 3 dumb quick questions 1) Can someone paint me a picture or upload one) of how the spring/plastic button in the overhead MAP lights go together. I had it fixed (1 side) then took it apart for reference to fix other side and it all flew over the truck - and now neither work so I have no point of reference. Just the spring activated button with the plastic toggles. How many pieces and how they connect to create the 'spring'. 2) I had a faulty vp44 and tracked back to dodgy (like the pun ?) fuel output/return lines on top of fuel canister in tank. Whilst taking the grey clip off the harness/canister to check I broke it - and now it says FULL all the time when reconnected. I …

Hey guys, Just wanted to show you all my little creation. I've been wanting to make one of these ever since I read about @KATOOM using an exhaust blanket to successfully lower his trans temp. I don't tow much at this point, but I figured keeping the heat off the trans and t case can't be a bad thing! My original intention was to take a piece of 6" exhaust and cut it in half. Then weld some anchors on to give it some standoff. Anyway, my father-in-law had some stainless sheet laying around that he said I could have. At first I though it was too light(it's a little thinner than a street sign), but it actually worked out perfectly! I toyed with the idea of attemp…

I am new here so I am trying to get rid of the newbie rank. I have seen some post about testing wires, most stick a probe in the wire then use tape. Tape does not usually seal the hole. Use liquid tape to seal and corrosion will not be a problem. When testing several wires and you forget which wires you checked use finger nail polish for marking, then cover with liquid tape. One post closer to getting out of the newbie dog house. AkFred

(5pages when searched here on term lug or nut. But not "lug nut torque). Service manual states 135 for 2500. 135 I hope isn't a typo. Does 135 sound right for stock alum rim?. To me sounds like to much. 135 a good number? Hate to do doubt the manual but.....

So I've noticed a few times when I get back out to my truck from going in the store that my fog lights will be on randomly. Switch off, no headlights. Just fog lights. Any ideas what the cause could be?

Hi All, The broken E brake... I brought up in my General Topics post viewtopic.php?f=23&t=382 I can see the front cable is moving in & out with the pedal. There's no resistance. I dragged a hunk of cardboard out & took a quick look under the truck. On the drivers side, outside the frame rail the front is connected to the drivers side rear. There's a thin rusted bracket attached to the rear cable but it's adrift. The attachment for the passengers side is there but not attached to anything. A push / pull cable requires the cover to be anchored at both ends. I imagine the rusty bracket was welded to something. The truck is very rusty underneath…

  10. Hey thanks for your help, I finally got the bluetop gearbox installed and wow! what a difference. This truck drives so well now. Loving it. Minor issue though - I'm now getting a hum/whine and some steering wheel feedback and low speed turns with rpm ~1000-1300. > my suspicion: When bleeding the PS fluid BEFORE the gearbox install, I let the fluid run low and suspect i hurt my ps pump > steps taken: i bled system before installing the gearbox. followed the guide here for the 3rd gen to flush. installed gearbox and followed bluetop's guide after connecting lines to gearbox - lifted tires off ground, disabled fass…

While installing my Fass DDRP I found a 3 wire weatherpack connector with a 3 wire weatherpack sealed cap on it. What is it for? I figured it is for a manual truck, NNS and reverse lights. My truck is an automatic.

My air conditioning compressor recently started squeaking only while the compressor is engaged. Turn AC off & no squeak. I'm thinking bearing but haven't found a diagram to know that the bearing can be changed. The clutch is working. The only issue is the squeak & potential failure.I recently did the heater core and the AC is cold. Coolant is new, filled and not leaking. The less I have to disturb the radiator or AC the better. The usual "I want to be down as little as possible" applies. So...Can the bearing be replaced? Can it be replaced without removing the compressor? Does the radiator have to come out? Is the bearing a Dodge only part or is the…

Most dashes look like they dropped a cinder block on them. Don't know how they do that much damage. I assume there is some abuse going on there lol. My paint on the roof was spotless last year, I looked at it this year and it looks like I did 60mph down a dirt road, rolled it, and skid for a mile. I know I drove under some tree branches but geeez. I will go get a pic, you won't believe it.

  15. Scrap yard has a '94 Dodge 2500, 4x4, V8 (transmission doesn't work, no wheels). I have a '99 dodge 2500, 2x4 with a 24 valve. What will transfer to my truck? I'm getting the parts dirt cheap.I've already gotten:rear-view mirrorsheadlightshood & grillebrake boxfloor mats ()My dad thinks the alternator will swap out from that truck to mine - what I've found online so far says no.Thanks in advance!

Has anyone ever removed the lift on a truck and returned it to its original height.I'm thinking about doing mine this summer.Don't know anything about lifts, but I assume I would need original springs, u-bolts, etc. to go back.

Yes it finally happened. Until I broke it I wondered how everyone managed to break them. I should have known better. What a crappy little tab that holds it all together. I am starting to think thet if you look into every problem that these trucks have, it comes down to crappy plastic somewhere. From the dash to the tie rod ends to the cup holder to the piston cooling jets. A piece of plactic was involved. But I have rambled enough. Finding a good used cupholder is next to impossible and new parts ...well I did not even call. Figgured I could pull the whole thing out and have a look at the thing from the inside. I decided to use a small piece of stainless wire and lo…

  19. I know, old topic. It's just that no one seems to be in the same situation I am. I just finished replacing front rotors, calipers, and pads (Powerstop Z36 kit) and discovered the passenger side hub was shot, spun like a fidget spinner. Also replaced the driver side axle shaft assembly since the threads got screwed up taking the nut off. Anyway, I also threw a new ABS sensor on the driver side hub from a brand new bearing my friend messed up and gave to me, since I had access to it. I get everything back together, bleed the brakes, and as soon as I cross the 20-25 mph mark, the ABS/Brake Christmas tree lights up. Does not come on with brake pedal action, comes on when I hi…
