  2. I have a 2001 dually currently leveled with a block and on 315/75/16's all the way around.. It leaves something to be desired from a drivers standpoint to say the least.. I am contemplating whether to go to a 285/75/16 or maybe even down to a 265/75/16. I like the way the truck looks leveled but have heard it could require some extra attention to keep it leveled and have everything be "RIGHT." She has 335k miles on her and it is time to go through the whole suspension. will likely start with the front end and I am hoping to gain some knowledge here on what stuff is a MUST replace (and what parts), what is a "I would do it if I am in that far" and what should be check…

Tuesday's run to Boise for @MoparMom I was following another vehicle which slowed down quickly and steered clear of a wandering skunk. I had little choices for avoiding the skunk. So I mashed on the brakes and come to complete stop so I didn't crush the little fella. Sad to say he sprayed the entire front of the truck with his scent. I've learned that the scent is a oil based material and very powerful smell. As for where I was sprayed across the front bumper and grill as well as under the truck in the engine area. Now the purple degreaser works awesome for cleaning that stuff off the chrome and grill just rinses right off with a power washer and the degreaser. I did do s…

I'm ready to pull my whiskers out. I have this rattle in my front end and a shimmy over longer stretches of uneven surfaces and I can't find the source to save my life. I have replaced all 4 BJs, both unit bearings, shocks, pads, rotors, axle u joints, tie rod ends, tires and sway bar links. I had been amassing the parts but being lazy so I just did it all because everything need some level of attn. I did it all myself, double/triple checked my work and the TQ on my bolts. Also my trac-bar is a 3rd gen with the bracket, and it's tight. I need a new direction to look in because my truck feels sloppier and sloppier.

Stopped by the stealership and priced out new door weather strips. With a straight face, he told me it was $600! I gave him a couple of seconds for to smile, and give me the real price. When it was clear he was serious, I thanked him, picked up my teeth, and left. Any advice on where to purchase replacement?

  7. Hey guys. Think I'll start a new thread in my current issue. I'm chasing down my dragging calipers issue. I thought my initial problem was from my 5th wheel, but it's obviously not. That thread is here So here is the problem I'm experiencing. My front brakes drag hard. To the point where I can spit on my rotors and have the spit sizzle off. This is just under normal driving with very light brake application. Mostly highway. I thought I had siezed calipers so I serviced the truck this weekend only to find problem still there. Here's what I replaced. Bought new front calipers and pads, new rotors, and new brake lines, and on the rear I got new cylinders. …

  8. I know here shortly this will be added to the article database. I just got done rebuilding the front drive shaft. Rather easy task and the parts are easy to common by even to rebuild the cardan joint ball. Also forgive me I got the camera lens greasy on my phone. Before you break down the double cardan joint mark it so you get it back together the same way. I used a file a scratch a line across all the pieces. It hard to see but there is a line across the left joint cap, the middle joint and the rear joint cap. Now using my Harbor Freight Ball Joint Press I'm simple driving the cap out the other side and disassembling the double cardan joint f…

Any tips or tricks to degreasing my motor? Need to get her cleaned up and attempt to tackle my leaking tappet cover. Seems like all the degreasers Ive bought most recently aren't very strong anymore. Simple Green, Purple Power as we as the Orange stuff don't seem very powerful. Anything I should really avoid getting wet (I know there is no distributor but is there something else important?).

I'm bound and determined to go LED. I can get the LED bulbs but many people highly recommended projector headlight housings. This is where I'm falling short. I don't know much about them and whether or not I can get a housing that will allow me to accommodate for them. My truck currently uses a 9004 bulb so that would be the plug I would want to shoot for. I guess it really would not matter? Looks like the harness for the bulbs don't have much of any kind of specific plug for them. I think the bigger issue is the bulb style mounting in the housing. Another thing that gets me is that it appears the projector housings use a separate bulb for low and high. I can …

  13. (Not sure where to post...Please move to right place) Finally going to upgrade my 2001 stock radio...am/fm, cd with something better. Trying to figure out what I should get, so I can burn cd's or MP3's. Or are cd's/mp3's outdated now days? Over all goal is to play what I want, when I want and go down road with "my" music playing a little bit louder than noise of motor. If cd's are still the way to go, where is best place download from? Any recommendations for a good music machine?

  14. Howdy all. I've been having an issue lately the brakes on my 96" 2500 4x4. Sometimes when hitting the brakes the pedal will go to the floor and I can barely stop. It happens at random and the ABS light never comes on. Yesterday I unplugged the ABS and my brakes started working normal again. I grew up driving trucks without ABS so I'm not going to kill myself or anything with it being disabled for now. I would like to get it figured out though but I'm not sure where to start.

  16. Hey guys, about to put in my blue-top box I got and wanted to make sure I was thinking this through correctly. The following sound ok? 1. To flush out the old lines I plan on having the old box off, and just running fresh power steering fluid through the reservoir for a 1/2-full quart. 2. Once everything back together I plan on putting fluid in reservoir until 3/4 full, starting truck and first, pumping brakes, then checking fluid, add as neccessary, then turning wheels full lock one way, checking fluid, full lock the other way, then checking fluid. That sound about right for doing this?

  18. Hey all, I have a 2001 24v and a few months ago i started noticing the throttle acting weird / revving up and letting off on its own a tiny bit when cruising around 55mph, I would then put it on cruise control and wouldn't notice it. Then the other day I noticed after driving on the highway/ with cruise control I'd get off to get fuel and the truck would be idling high around 1k until I shut it off and re start then it would be fine. Finally on the trip home I was running 70mph with cruise control on and the cruise control cut off and the throttle went unresponsive and threw a check engine light. I did the key thing to get the codes on the dash and got p0500,p1693,p0121,p…

  19. @MUDDY had a project for me at his place. I happen to spot a set of wheels that would get rid of my crappy aluminum wheels that one is way out of center or bent some how. Sad to say, my tires are beyond saving the damage is done to them. I did the dismount and remount myself and spun balanced them to true ZERO on all four tires. At highway speeds you can feel the vibration from the wheels. No, It's not driveline I just replace all u-joints on both front and rear driveshafts. Nice match to my 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 no all I need is a set of center caps. At least the tires are now tucked back under the fenders again.
