2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

  1. Hey guys, a couple months ago I replaced my power steering system. Borgeson gear box, pump, shaft and hoses. Also installed a filter (yes it is flowing the correct direction). When I try to turn the wheels from a dead stop I can't turn the wheel either direction more than maybe a quarter turn before it locks up. As soon as I start moving it's like butter and while driving it's smooth. When I first bled the system I sucked air in and also ended up over filling the pump but now the fluid level is good and I re-bled the system so it shouldn't have any air in it. I just can't turn the wheel at a stop. Any ideas? The tires are only stock 265's so it's not like I'm trying to tu…

My truck has been feeling unstable lately when hitting bumps. It seems to sway left and right easily in a quick jerking motion. My end links are definitely worm and was wondering if this could be the sole cause of the issue? Truck has new Bilstien 5100's, DOR track bar with no play, ball joints don't have play, unit bearings don't have play, and all steering linkages are new and have no play.

  3. Does anybody have a preffered dealer that they use? I found one dealer here where you can get the FF5617 for 12$ and the FS19768 Water Seperator for 30$ http://partstore.caseih.com/us/ValleyImplement/filters-c1297.html Was just curious where the vast majority of air dog users are getting their filters?

I've been looking at the Isspro gauges and want to make sure before I make my purchase. I am just curious if anyone knows if the EVII gauges will work without the peformax ECM? Thanks

Need a little help here as I am stumped. I just pulled the Vac/steering pump as a unit and fixed the oil leak with new seals and a new power steering pump. After everything was back in and fluids were topped off I test drove it and right away the ABS and parking brake light came on. I checked the vac line and its connected. My vent control works great so I know the system has vacuum. Test drove it and power steering works and brake pedal feels good but a panic stop locks up the rear brakes (no abs function). What am I missing? Truck is a 2001 2500 Cummins 4x4 extended cab. found a wheel sensor plug was not properly connected. Thx…

How did you guys deal with the loss of gloss from the weather? Anyone do something creative about this problem?

  7. First I have to say MoparMan rocks. Has saved me hundreds if not thousands over the years! I'm looking for suggestions on the hard lines from the ABS controller and aluminum block that run to frame mounted blocks. It appears that Dodge went with a hybrid of standard and metric on the lines. Wanted to se what y'all have done when they rust out. I was blessed that failure occurred on the ranch and not on the road. Is there pre-bent lines available or has anyone used stainless braided for this application. Thanks for any input.

About to ditch the Glowshift from the previous owner for a ISSPRO mechanical and have a question. When I'm plumbing the new gauge do I just leave the line after the needle valve full of air, or do I need to bleed it somehow so it fills with diesel?

Hey Gang... Once again I'm looking for some help with my truck. Lately my rear brakes have been binding up and dragging. I clean the rails the shoes ride on and the shoes themselves. Externally mostly lost of mud and dirt. Well I popped out a piston to check the bores for problems and found that sand and very small stones under the weather boots. (I can't figure out how they got there...) But found that the sand and debris has worked its way under the O-rings in the calipers. Now my problem is that everything is fine except the O-rings which has taken some damage. (Deformed, nicks, etc.) Now I went to the local NAPA store and they don't list any rebuild kit…

Hi all with greater knowledge than I: I pulled the plug on the left side of the firewall, the one with the big bundle of wires coming out by the steering and going to the battery, and inserted my wire for my my new fuel pressure guage. Long story short, I can't get the rubber plug back on the firewall. There is a lip on the firewall and a grove in the plug and I can't get them to "hook" together. It makes the cab a bit noiser. Any thoughts? On another note, my fuel pressure sits at 13 idling and 9.5 WOT. I bought the DDRP by FASS but I think I'll sit tight until it gets worse. The borgeson box didnt solve my wandering problems nor did my caster adjustment but its now…

  11. While changing the oil on my truck last night, I noticed that water was draining from the A/C hose from the firewall. I have not had the A/C on for the last month. I have the dash selector set to floor or floor/vent. With the engine running, I watched the A/C compressor cycle on and off. What would cause the A/C compressor to cycle on and off when the A/C is not selected? Sorry, posted this in the CR forum by mistake, so am posting it here now.

  13. Does anyone know why most 2nd gen CTD shocks list "Exclusion: Snow Plow Prep Package"?I did not get (or maybe I couldn't get) the snow plow option when I ordered my truck back in 1997 and am wondering if there is a special coil and/or shock setup that would allow a snow plow setup? I'm thinking it might have been an axle overload issue though (too much weight with the Cummins engine to throw the weight of the snow plow on top of that front axle). Also, does anyone know what the camper option added to the suspension? Thanks for any advice or information you can provide ahead of time!

Ok so I pulled the door panels this morning to replace the door handles as they were old and getting stuck in the up position causing passengers to slam the door without it shutting. As some of you probably could have guessed I broke just about all of the door panel retainers. The stealer ship and most online places want 5-6 bucks apiece...i need 26 so that is not a viable option. Part number is 6505878AA...anyone know of a good replacement, substitution or where I can get them for a better price? I found part number 6503709 that looks like a good replacement and can get 50 each for 6 bucks.

  15. I had a garage install a new condenser several years ago, pretty well broke the bank & the dash plastics have never fitted just right since then. I've recharged the AC just to get by. The AC / heater is stuck on defrost (the default mode) so the vacume vent control is out. I haven't been able to test the vacume yet. (My ability to accomplish anything is pretty dinimished by my disability.) So now I'm smelling antifreeze. Might as well make it worthwhile pulling the dash.I just the Cirus back from the shop today. Brakes all around (discs, pads, drums, shoes, a rubber line), and hopefully sealed the rear tires to the rims. I might just sign my check & hand…

In the parts manual, Figure 08A-430, The overhead console has a part named "DOOR, Garage Door Opener" (I guess your garage door open supposed to go) Anyway the plastic tag that you push in to open broke today. This is the little compartment that is near the mpg, trip meter readout thing. Above the rear view mirror. Any good ideas what to do with that space to make it useful? Thanks

  17. The truck has 82K on the clock – All of a sudden I am experiencing a death wobble around 40 to 50 MPH only under certain conditions. The truck has a Trick Flow tank in the bed. If I put 150 LBS close to the tail gate and hit a small bump it will go into the shakes. If I move the load over the wheels nothing. If I hook my trailer up (10,000 lbs), nothing. My mechanic has replaced a part on the pitman arm and added a steering stabilizer and said the ball joints are fine. I went to a respected alignment shop yesterday and the response was “ Yep that’s a Dodge alright”. I am going to put new tires on the front today since that is a suggested fix but no one seems to be able to…

Hey all, I'm looking to copy Mikes idea of sticking some lights on the rear axle to increase visibility when backing up. Wiring in those lights seems fairly straight forward. I was also looking to add the bypass switch so I can flip them on while in park. Couple questions... Anyone know what wire in the trailer harness is for reverse? What wire do I splice into on the neutral safety switch on the trans?

I had my truck in the shop... for some reason they were dragging their feet about getting to it... I was getting annoyed but then I had a 3 day vacation in the ICCU (Intermediate Cardiac Care Unit), after a first ever episode of A-Fib. OH, yeah, after getting evac'ed in a Rescue before breakfast. Home now & getting used to the additional meds besides my existing disability. I've been unhappy with the way the truck tracks... have to constantly be on it making small adjustments. Already did track bar upgrade. He replaced the steering damper... said it was frozen or siezed. ??? We'll see. Had a bunch of routine maintance done since I can'…
