I borrowed a friends Smarty S03 to see if I like it. I don't think I will be comfortable enough to run the Edge and Smarty at the same time. If I do get the nerve.. I know enough not to run the Smarty on advanced timing settings. Any advice on what settings to try? There only appears to be one setting with boost fooling. Does this mean that any of the other settings.. that I should not be able to obtain boost levels over 20? I ask because I already tried the fuel saver mode for like 5 minutes and got my boost gauge to 30 and didn't think that could happen.

I know it helps save the VP44 pumps but what about a P7100? I think it would be beneficial but I would like to here from those with more experience on the matter. If it is a good idea, what ratio of oil to fuel should I use? Just for clarification there is nothing wrong with my pump, I'm simply looking at preventive maintenance practices.

Hello Everyone, I have been going back-forth for several months now on if I should invest in my truck or a newer truck. Now it must be stated that my current 2nd gen has been nothing short of awesome to me, always completed the task asked (towing, road trip, hauling) but its now 15yrs old with 171k miles. I just got back from another road trip to visit my friend out of state (360 miles each way) and I came to the conclusion I either need to invest in my current rig or search for something newer (3rd /4th gen). The below list are the items I know of my truck would require to be invested in (not necessarily in order) to be 100% in my book (some may not be nec…

My truck came with the non gated Aurora 2000... so I don't know the difference. I'm sure I will either want to get a new turbo at some point or need one. I always read about folks messing with a gated turbo... I guess to achieve higher boost? If or when the time comes... will I want and appreciate a gated turbo or will I be so accustomed to a non and want another?

I have been dumping good bit of $$$ to make this truck the best it can be. I recently got the front end in order.. removing leveling kit, poly bushings in upper and lower control arms, new track bar, steering box and brace.. added a deep trans pan and gauge.. new injectors.. brakes and lines all the way around including the Chevy 1 ton cylinders.x What can/should I do to my truck for performance & reliability.. besides routine/preventive maintenance? That's a given.. Most importantly for towing my camper anywhere I'd like to go (long distance.) Getting an exhaust brake is high on my priority list. Other things I'm thinking about are.. an oil bypass sys…

Alright I've searched and searched the forums and for the life of me can't figure this out! Where do you actually drain your power steering fluid!!?? I want to do a flush because my fluid is bad/low. I would just do the turkey baster idea for now if I knew for sure it was power steering fluid that was used last but I don't so that's why I want to do the full flush. So whatcha got?! Pics would be great too!

I decided to upgrade my injectors and while in there adjust the valves. Thanks moparman... for the write-ups! BIG help! Other than breaking the breather nipple.. everything went smoothly. Much easier than I anticipated. Only issue I really had... was getting a torque wrench on the back most fuel line nut.. so I just guestimated with a regular wrench. Also decided to do a grid delete and have my intake and valve cover powder coated. Throughout the whole process.. I was so nervous that when I finished it wasn't going to start or run as well as it did before I stuck my hands in there. Well... it took around 4 times cranking before I heard it turn over... music to my ea…

Was wondering, we have list's and charts for just about everything for our trucks, but do we have a list of recommended/top/best fluids or favorites that everyone uses? It could be anything from oil, power steering, trans fluid to windshield washer fluid! I was just wondering what everyone liked to use so looked for a list, couldn't find one so thought maybe it'd be a good thing to have!

The clutch I got my SB 1947 OFE installed the last part on November. It was nice to now have a non slipping clutch again. I am impressed with the SB. In first it engages smoothly, it is a little grabby launching in 2nd but nothing to worry about. It holds like the Hulk and I am very happy with it. i made one run of about 475 miles with the 5th wheel in tow and the comp on 2X3 and it handled it just fine. This was on a good mix of flat and hill country. No long grades to speak of but a good many short 6% or so grades. The clutch held great no matter what I threw at it. When I got home maneuvering the 5th wheel into my driveway went smooth. I was pleasantly surprised h…

So, I had no oil pressure, had good oil level, truck ran fine, 2001 24 V. I replaced the oil pressure sender under the wiring harness. I still have no oil pressure showing on the dash cluster. Could it be a bad sender, or a bad gauge on the dash? I'm throwing no DTC or error codes on an INOVA code reader. I bought a mechanical, Autometer oil pressure gauge. Can I locate the sending unit on the oil filter housing, or is there a better place? I searched all of the other posts on the forum, and no one has had the problem of replacing the sender and still having no oil pressure. Thanks!

I found these videos very helpful for understanding the operation of different designs. P-Pump VE-Pump Governor Operation: This is not an automotive governor but instead a marine one. On automotive governors it has basically the same thing, but the governor operates at all RPM's to help maintain speed when load is applied. …

About a year ago I bought a bunch of washers that would be about the right size for shims. Then after doing research about it decided not to run them as people were saying they weren't hard enough steel. Fast forward to about a month ago when I ordered new injectors, I bought some shims about the same time, but there were some complications with the wrong ones being sent, which I found out after having the injectors on the bench... So thinking back to the washers, I decided to try it. I wrote down the exact pressures I set each one to, aaannnnnddddd temporarily misplaced it, but they were all 320 bar +/- 3 bar. I put the higher pop ones on the outside…

Did some turbo swapping on the '96. Went from the older 8 blade HX35 to the HY35-D found on 03-04 dodges. To make the swap easy, I used a HY35 turbine housing off a 2nd gen. This turbo is a 56/58/9W instead of the HX35's 56/60/12WD. I expected faster spooling, and possibly a less restrictive top end... I was wrong. The top end pulls a little harder and spooling is amazing, but down low just doesn't cut it. Here are the runs: RPM, Here you can see the HX35 took off much faster. Pressures, Again, spool-up on the HY was noticeably slower, but the top end did well. 60psi Drive pressure all the way to 3400RPM. For…
