2nd Generation Dodge Reliability / Performance

This is a discussion forum of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel of performance and longevity. This includes tricks of getting more MPG, HP/TQ, or just getting to the next milestone.

  1. Started by Steezy,

I just bought a quadzilla adrenaline for my 2001 dodge 24 valve. I got the WiFi for my iPhone. Everything is hooked up and plugged in correctly. I went to go and try to pair it up to my phone through the WiFi like the manual says. And nothing is popping up. Has anyone had an issue like this before? I read that sometimes the module isn’t getting power so I tested that and it’s getting power to it. It just won’t pop up on my side. Any suggestions??

Is there really valuable parts I would want to consider pulling of a 99 gas model before owner has it towed away, without starting my own junk yard? ? In my area parts not that easy to find sometimes. (Took me couple months to find a fuel tank) Body parts...nothing without minor dents. Interior...shot. Any parts that are rare I should consider?

  3. I've been around this block before, Which comes first, the puck or the fooler. Here are some diagrams to explain my theories. also, I'm thinking of trying to add a smoke switch, but I seem to be getting two stories 1. the signal voltage INCREASES as boost pressure increases. 2. the signal voltage DECREASES as boost pressure increases. It would also seem that having a Boost Fooler between the "Smoke Switch" and the ECM harness would eliminate the need for a resistor inline with the switch as the fooler should keep you boost signal from getting out of spec.thoughts, theories, b!#@#*$ or complaints welcomed...I have a thick skinA correction on the diagrams: Ignore anyth…

So i have a 99 automatic 4x4. As far as the up grades on the truck i have Edge juice with Attiude, 150 Air Dog Fuel Pump, 100HP DDP, ATS Stage 3 Tranny, SB Intake, Bigger Intercooler, 4" MBRP cutback exhaust, ATS exhaust housing I just replace the Stock turbo with Phatshft 64 compressor wheel, and 14mm exhaust housing. Now with this new turbo I've seem to have lost power compared to the old stock turbo. Granted the EGTS don't run up as high. I could power brake with the stock turbo and the power was awesome, but would get up high (1300EGT) so i would let off. But when i power brake and spool up the phatshaft the EGT highest was about 1175 which i was happy with. But when …

I added an in-line filter behind my raptor pump. I found that there was no in let screens on the pump. But my fuel pressure at Idol had dropped from 20 to 15. So I guess after this exercise my only course of action was to adjust up the fuel pressure. What are the symptoms of a raptors declining health? Is slowly losing pressure a concern? Is regular maintenance of any kind recommended? I noticed that the pump came with a large and small O-ring for resealing. I am hoping to beat the raptor failure inevitability.

I'm thinking about looking into a fourty foot weekend warrior toy hauler. It weighs probably twelve thirteen k and then another two thousand with all the bikes and such( est. ). Truck is an 01 qclb, 4x4 5 speed with overload springs single rear wheels. Oh and tentative trailer is three axle. Do you guys think that will work? I know there are trailer forums that have info but couldn't find anything that specifically talks about my truck.---2005 Weekend Warrior CL 4005 Toy Hauler--- - $19995 (NEW PRICE!!!) 7. http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/p-7531-budget-rv275-24-valve-cummins-fuel-injector.aspx if no one has seen this yet I wanted to let everyone know that dieselpowerproducts.com is offering a cheaper version of bosch's RV275 injectors. They say it offers all the same benefits as bosch's product. Right now they are running a sale and are only 49.99 a piece and free shipping on orders over 100.00. So if you have been looking to get these injectors but are on a budget check out this alternative product. I just ordered mine the other day, I will let you know how I like them.

Not sure if I agree with the diesel 911 testing, cause doesn’t it go in the tank AFTER the fuel is gelled? But other than that, seems like a solid testing effort. i don’t know the guy, but wanted to share.

Just got my Quad, and have a few questions, forgive me if I say something stupid. After a whole lot of reading on this site a couple of things are making me look for answers. First, it seems to me that I need to add timing because my injectors are DAP 7x.009 and popped @ 320 bar. My question here is I know that as they wear, they will drop in pressure. Has anyone worked out a table based on mileage/hours of when to start taking that advance out? Second, what is fairly simple, can I just tap into my existing gauges for the fuel pressure and pyro to the Quad? Again, sorry if I'm asking stupid questions, but I like to understand what and why I'm suppose…

My Raptor frrp developed an internal leak after just barely a year, introducing air into the system and causing hard starts after sitting for a few hours. So I called Air Dog and they got a new one out right away, no questions asked. They don't even request my pump in return which I thought was pretty neat. Now some of you may remember my post a few weeks ago about the Air Dog 100 I had the chance to pick up for dirt cheap. I ended up taking it apart, the motor was fried without a doubt. So rather then throw it out like the guy was going to do I put it on the shelf in the garage, I just could not see throwing something like that out.Now fast forward a few weeks, my frrp c…

  11. Hey. So today I was stomping on the gas a little just getting a feel for new injectors as well as the TC+VB and other stuff had done recently. Seemed pretty good - good throttle response, no slipping and really grabs in 3/4th but I get home and doing some other work - and I notice the VP44 TAP has come off. (I have a stealth plate and the wire that runs from the tap to the EDGE module has come off - basically only attached to the edge now and no longer completing the circuit to the VP44. Yet power is still really good ?? So - guessing that the edge doesn;t constantly send/receive info the vp44 ? Basically once its set on Level 5 - it stays on level 5 - and now the TAP is…

  12. Sorry, Newbie here. Unfortunately, as a farmer, I have very limited play money, I can't afford a $4-600 programmer, however I was recently able to swing a Diablo Sport Power-Puck. Everything I've read suggested that it is the best bang for the buck. As advertised, it made a definite improvement, but there is still a definite turbo lag. I know, that's the nature of the beast. I was wondering what effect a boost fooler and/or Boost elbow would have combined with the power puck. Does the Puck already do boost fooling, or would it help or hinder. Also where would the fooler go, between the MAPP sensor and the Puck, or between the Puck and the stock harness? Any help would be …

Not sure if this is the correct area to put this, sorry if it is Mike Anyways, just want to get your thoughts on what I have going on. Between 40-50mph I'm getting some vibration which I'm thinking is a tire balance issue? It's almost like I'm going over a whole bunch of small bumps in the road, but that's not it because it happens everywhere that I'm between 40-50mph. It's nothing violent and doesn't effect the steering or anything, but it is annoying. Should I check anything else?

  14. Heres inside a 51" Then after I beat on it with a bar. Wish I had a air cutter so I could reach in and cut it out. I couldn't get the ears to bend all the way out. Figured I'd share this here. The 51" 5" muffler in the application it was designed for. The exhaust 90 was rusted out. I did a quick bandaid with the new muffler it hopefully lasts a few years. I also did brakes on the drives and painted the bed. This truck takes priority over my pickup I drive it more anyways. It's a 365 big cam I've done no power mods on. Truck has 1.3mill on it. 365 was in framed at 837k replaced a couple injectors and clutch…

I have been thinking of taking my juice with attitude cts off my truck and selling. Thought about going with an edge ez or smarty and a set of pillar guages. I know I will lose the pump tap but what other things would I be losing out on? Wouldnt bigger injectors make up for not having the pump tap? I am not after huge Hp. Just towing power and mpgs. I am happy tow on 2x3 and usually drove around on 3x5.

  16. The bobbing when i come off throttle and truck is trying to idle is getting worse with the increased temperature outside and when i have my ac on when it revs up it blows quite a bit of smoke out. It stops when i get to a speed less than about 10mph. Question is could i break the vss line momentarily or ground it out to trick the ecm that i stopped and return to a normal idle?

  17. I treated myself to a Quadzilla and 7x10 injectors, soon to realize head studs were next to be safe. The shopping list grew again today so i figured it was time to get some help an try to keep my cost managed with less surprises. My list is Boost elbow, Boost fooler, a tablet for quad display, a fully adjustable wastegate for average of $250.00, it's a simple diaphragm that's missing the spring tension adjusting.screw and a supply line fuel pressure sending unit an snubber. I'm not sure if i need another part and i'm starting to lose some trust with the sales dept they kept my DAP t shirt and because i bought a i-quad they took my control pad out of my box, even th…

So I bought a core 47re a month or so ago. A buddy came by as we tore down the trans from my green truck. Figured might as well get started on the core trans. Well here is what we found so far LOL. Plan as of now for the trans is to go in the 12v once done. Will get a dpc reman triple. Already have the full rebuild kit, billet input, tcs servo & lever kit, and goerends vb. I will be making my own laminated flex plate. This trans came out of a v10 truck.

  19. INSTALLED SOME MANIFOLD STUDS AND AN ATS ONE PIECE EXHAUST MANIFOLD YESTERDAY ON MY 01 RAM AND NOTICED THAT THE NOTCHED AREAS OF THE HEAD WHERE YOU CAN TOUCH THE HEAD GASKET LOOK LIKE THEY ARE SEPARATING. I COULD NOT IDENTIFY A LEAK BUT I WAS CURIOUS IF THAT WAS TYPICAL AT 167K MILES? TRUCK HAS HEAD STUDS ALREADY AND I SEE NO SIGNS OF FUNCTIONAL GASKET FAILURE WITH OIL OR WATER LEAKS AT THE MOMENT. THANKS
