Will an ECM from an engine with a standard transmission work on an engine with an automatic transmission if the year model & engine size is the same?

So I have an opportunity to purchase a Cummins QSB7 industrial engine (from a gen set) for a decent price if the auction doesn't blow up fast. Question is this: can this be used as a swap into a vehicle? What would it take?

Was at a buddies tractor shop today and some guys pulled up in a 2005 or so F-550 but this was no ordinary 6.0, it had a cummins in it. They had nothing but problems out of the old 6.0 so they swapped a ve powered cummins from a 1989 dodge in it. Had banks inter cooler system but everything else was stock. He used the ford transmission and all, said the a/c worked as did everything else. He was really proud of his truck.

So i have been driving my Fummins Excursion for a few weeks now with no real issues. However on the freeway i'm turning some pretty high RPM's at 70-80. Like around 2700 rpm. At first I thought I wasn't getting lockup but I installed the lockout switch and an LED to show when the PCM was commanding lockup. all was working properly even without using the switch. So my next though was to check the door tag for the axel ratio...4.30!!!!!! holy crap that explains it. Now I know why from a dead stop that thing feels like it could rip the rear end right out from under it. What would be a good ratio to switch to? I have the 2001 24V and the 47RE trans. I'm c…

Alright, so someone tell me why this is not a current technology? What is the bad for not having them used in a vehicle still?

  12. Ok guys i hope its ok to post this in this forum but what i have is a 12v cummins swapped into a 97 crew cab chevy dually. I am to the task of hooking up hoses and i am puzzled at which hose goes where! I guess i need to know what sequence your truck uses or if someone could give me detailed help as which hose goes where in some sort of a methodical approach it would help me out tremendously..I havent thought about it a whole lot but when i was trying to make sense of it and was thinking about the whole high pressure/ low pressure side and which one should go where i got a bit taken back by the complexity... when i looked at the rear of my power steering pump and it had …

  13. I hope i dont get run out of here for owning a chevy but i have swapped in a 12v / 47re out of my wrecked 97 2500 dodge into my 97 chevy 2wd crew cab dually.. lifted the chevy with 3" body lift, 2wd lift springs in the front (yes they make them and yes they are hard to install) , and im probably gonna lift the rear slightly too because i intend to install 22.5 semi wheels all around...I dont have any pics as of yet to upload im mostly concerned with getting the thing finished out and started to ease my anticipation, the rest to follow... Right now im looking at how to do bare minimum to get it started (not drive - i dont have driveshaft adapted yet), and then im looking …

  14. Figure this would be a good place to start, I recently purchased an 1983 F250 with a 2000 Cummins and NV4500 swapped. Running the Dodge brakes, cluster, etc. Currently I removed the stacks and installed a Magnaflow system under the truck- 3.5" down to a 4" pipe all the way to the rear tire. The system was for a 98-02 Dodge and fit well under the Ford, I did need to oblong the bolt holes in the exhaust flange to get the down pipe to bolt up. Also removed an undersize air filter and replaced it with a 'BHAF' and replaced the welded 90 degree 4" intake pipe with a mandrel bent 60 degree pipe. And pictures: How I got the truck-

  16. OK Guys and Gals......Here is my dream.I want to start acruing parts to do a very custom build. What I want........A rig that can do all I like to do.I want to build a Cummins powered rig that I can do several things with. I want a Mud bogger / power puller / rock climbing off road tripping all in one rig. Want it to be a mid/rear of center mounted engine with a low center of gravity chassis. D80 rear D60 front to keep weight down versus rockwell axles. Now here is what I want from all of you..........Give me your ideas on how you would go about it.I am looking for ideas to get my project rolling, it is going to be a several year project to finish and will probably never be…
