The time has come to produce the Mopar1973Man High Idle & MPG fooler switches again.

Posted

Well Gang,

The Board of Directors on the Mopar1973Man.com has decided that we need to produce some new High Idle Switches for the 2nd gen 24V Cummins.  We have spent a considerable amount of time designing a Brand New High Idle / MPG fooler Switch.

We have learned from the last switch design and have made significant improvements.  The New High Idle / MPG Fooler switch will be the same price as before, but it will be more robust and modular to allow for easier install.

We have decided to only offer a "Install Anywhere  Kit" rather than a gauge mount or Cubby Mount.  You will nly have to drill one 1/4" hole to allow for the fitment of the switch.

Some teaser pictures.

We are making 50 switches to start then another run of 50 after that.  You can order them from The Mopar1973Man.com Store I expect to have them ready to ship within a 6 week time.

All high idle sales will be here on the site for here on out. We will be the producers, vendors and the support team rolled into one...

At idle that makes sense to me.

Moving... It seems backwards from what I expected.

Regarding as expected. Wait till we reach minus temperatures it advances even more.

Just let folks know I'm working on cable producer here in Boise, Idaho. Still got at least 50 cables left I'm getting started on getting the process started here in Boise. I've got to give a Thank You to @bry1216 for hooking me up with this Boise company.

Quick question I couldn't remember the answer too.

Just got around to installing my high idle switch I took out of my 99 and into my 02. When starting on a cold morning in MPG mode, once started, should my grid heater still be cycling?

I dont think it will pre crank but I think it still does from start to 20 mph.

Ok, that sounds like what mines doing. If the switch is telling the sensor what temp it is, then how does the grid still cycle? Is that on a separate temp reading?

Mine also cycles the grids after a cold start with the switch in mpg mode. Mike and I talked about it before and, iirc, we concluded that it must be tied to the coolant temp somehow just like @Dieselfuture said. Just weird how it doesn't run before starting but it does after.

I don't believe that's  the case with mine. I always verify the fooler has set iat to 143° via the scangauge and it still cycle the grids when cold after starting.

Hmm, definitely weird they still cycle, but I'm glad to hear mine is not the only one doing it!

One things for sure, my truck does NOT like starting without grids, even if it's only in the 40s! hahaha plenty of white smoke to let me know she was pissed!

I did not know fooler fooled the iat. thought it only did the ect. What do I know, just spit balling anyway. I dont have one of the switches myself.

Haha no problem. Yes in mpg mode it fools the iat to retard timing back to normal I believe. Ordinarily, timing is very advanced in cold temps and that reduces mpg. Unless I have it backwards lol someone please correct me if I got it wrong

Mine still does it when the engine is relatively warm but cold outside. My guess is battery temperature sensor is tied in as an ambient somewhere

I finally installed my high idle switch today.  I put in in the overhead console.  The cable that comes with the switch is just a little too short.  I ordered a 12" extension from Amazon and I was able to but it right between the lights.  It turned out great.  I did have to take a dremel to the inside of the overhead console to make room for the circuit card and cable, but that was simple.

Looking good,  I am happy to hear that a 12" extention was enough.

It seems like I've asked this before. After starting truck in 6 cylinder high idle can I go straight to MPG or after its warmed up turn off truck and then re start to get the MPG to to work correctly?

Just flip the switch from 6cyl (or 3cyl for that matter) to MPG and you're good to go. No need to shut off the truck. :thumb1:

However remember that once you trigger the high idle mode in the ECM the only way to get out of that mode is for ECT to reach ~170 or for the truck to be off for 30 seconds.

You can flip it to mpg mode on the fly and it will be in fooler mode but if you let the truck idle again it will go back into high idle mode.

The switch only triggers a mode, it cannot cancel the mode.

Correct. Canceling high idle...

1. Speed >0 MPH

2. Coolant Temperature >170*F

3. APPS Sensor Off Idle State

4. Brake pedal pressed

To reset completely you need to shut down completely and count to 10.
