So when the weather starts to get a little cold outside my Clutch Pedal becomes squeaky when depressed.  It is not the bearings or anything like that it is the pedal linkage itself.  I have sprayed WD40 to up at the top of the pedal linkage connection but it doesn't seem to help or I am not hitting the right part.  Anyone else experience this issue or have any insight?  Everything functions fine it is just a little annoying.  Seems I always have to find something to chase down on the rig.

  • Thanks.  I saw the Article written by @leathermaneod should have searched for that first.  Looks like a pretty easy job just need to pick up 6 Bushings part # 04294639. 

  • Just finished installing all 6 new bushings. Found them at a local dealer at $4 each. Took me about an hour once oriented it was pretty straightforward. Pedal has no sound now and is smooth as butter.

  • WD40 solved the squeak on my clutch pedal and fortunately it has not come back.  It was a very very annoying sound to hear while driving.   If it comes back I now know where to starting looking!

Mine was doing this a while ago.  It was extremely annoying.  It wasn't until one day my clutch and brake petal felt like they became mechanically disconnected.  I found that the rod that they both sit on had slid out of the support and the assembly was only pivoting on one side.  Somehow on of the e-clips that keeps the rod in place had become MIA.  I got everything back in place, replaced the clip, and made sure the plastic bushing were there and I haven't had another squeak since. 

 

In the pictures you can see the rod shifted to the left and the 2nd picture is of the plastic bushing, the rod is supposed to be through that.  20150703_081334.jpg20150703_081300.jpg

WD-40 is a solvent and NOT a lubricant.  It merely loosens things up and then evaporates.  You can actually use the stuff to glue on handlebar grips.....

 

Use a penetrating lubricant spray. :thumbup2:

I still use it for a lubricant and a solvent. Never been able to glue anything together with but never thought to try. It will clean tar off of auto paint with hurting the paint. It is great at freeing up sticky mechanisms.

It works real good for killing aggressive spiders that hide in cracks. Had some attack my hand when got near so a shot of WD in there took care of them.

 

 Be careful with WD, a back spray or bounce back stream can damage your eyes.

Sort of.....as WD-40 really kind of contradict what their product does in their myth section.  Nonetheless, it seems that WD-40 has some sort of odd following where people swear by it as a use for everything product.  I really dont care how secretive the recipe is either.  I just want it to work.  That said, WD-40 has plenty of uses, just not a long term lubricant.

 

However you want to dice it, WD-40 doesn't "lubricate" anything any more than the solvent like properties loosens things up before it evaporates away.  WD-40 clearly points this out in their myth section too while advising consumers to use WD-40 Bike for actual "lubricants".

 

Blaster is a far better penetrating lubricant.  But it sure STINKS. :thumbup2:

 

Have you ever tried a product called "Freeze Off". My son says it works well but not economical as you must use a lot for it to work 

I used it once as a last ditch effort to get a very very stuck and broken spark plug out of an old inline 6. I got the engine up to temp then emptied most of the can right on the end of the plug. 

I figured it would come out or the head would crack and to my surprise it actually came out.
