Wanting to change out turbo on my 99 auto , FASS ,edge ez w/ 75 injectors , 4" ex , BHAF , ATS trans w/ lock up control

Mainly because of mileage and its time to put a e- brake on and replace my cracked manifold

Trying to lower egts towing heavy ,

Want to stay turbo mt e-brake , and I`m happy with under 400 hp  so no h40 downpipe

3 to chose are mod hx35 , k27 ,and  s 200 gx-e built by Southeast  Power Systems , sold by DAP

Lots of info on mod hx35 and k27 , but no info but seller`s on s200

The s200 is like the sxe 300`s in that its a newer design , its custom by SPS 

Guy`s at DAP  are recommending it , anyone ever run one  ? Thinking of buying it

I would find a cheap take off hx35 and see if it meets your needs before dropping the dough on a more expensive turbo.  We have very similar setups and the hx35 does pretty good for me.  How heavy are you towing?

Tow a 5th loaded about 16k , at elevation , min 4500 ft to 7-8k

Also sometimes just a TC towing a jeep

 

Most places that sell mod hx35`s require a core , my hx35 is still ok , I`d like to keep it for back up and I`m not looking to replace it with a used one

 

If I buy a k27 no core fee , same with s200 , so I can keep my hx35 on the shelf next to my extra VP  and ECM   LOL . If I was to move back to way northern CA I might need to put it back on to pass smog just to reg it in the state , then it would be in a non smog with reg area , back off it goes

 

Its not about HP to $ spent , Ive had the truck for 20 years , still a great truck

The hx 35 is only good to about 340 hp and less the higher you go

And I`ve had the BOMB  bug years ago , don't want it again , Happy with upper 300hp`s and a head that dosent blow off

The stock hx 35 is about 55 lbs . the s200 is up to 65 lbs per min compressor

The s200 is a fine turbo for your goals.    it should be happy at just under 400 hp.  

 

The he351 turbos flow ~67 lb/min if I remember right and they are good for the 400 mark without heat issues.  

My mistake.  I thought all 24v autos came factory with an HY35.  Looks like it's just the later ones like mine.

They charge 100 for core, I kept mine for a spear, it was just over 800 I believe to my door may be different now. Got it in less than a week, I believe I ordered it Tuesday and had it Friday or something like that. Reason I did that is to keep my exhaust brake that bolts to the back of it. K27 would be a good one too for exhaust brake. I considered it but decided to go with a moded hx. Someone here recently got a k27 and seem to be very happy with it.

I am aware that the k27 sold by diesel auto power  has a v band ex housing , the bd ex brake has a v band to 5 bolt adaptor that would be left off , the brake housing is made to work with both 94-98 v - band , and 98.5 - 2002 5 bolt

The k27 built by industrial inj will not work with any turbo mt brake it has an odd ball 4 bolt cast elbow as sold by diesel power products and others

The s200 is 5 bolt

The hx 35w on 94-98 trucks are v band

The hx 35w on 98.5 - 02 are 5 bolt

 

Was looking to see if any one had real world exp with the  borg warner   s200

Is that 62/67/12 comparable to a 62/68? What kind of HP range?

These number are just the sizes of the wheels.

 

Compressure wheel is 62mm

Turbine wheel is 67mm

Exhaust housing is 12cm² in the opening.

 

VS.

 

Compressure wheel is 62mm

Turbine wheel is 68mm (+1 mm)

Exhaust housing is 12cm2 in the opening.

There's more to it than just the dimensions of the wheels...

The SXE line of turbos have a few manufacturing differences, namely a larger A/R compressor housing and J-blade turbine wheels give the 62/68 a flow advantage over the HX35's usual smaller A/R compressor housing and straight blade turbine wheels.  

Blade design and exducer size of the compressor wheel makes a huge difference in the characteristics as well.  I'm not sure what style of compressor is used in @Dieselfuture's turbo, nor do I know what blade style his turbine is, so there's a chance that the two are very close in their capabilities, but unless we knew what style Dieselfuture has, it's hard to compare them straight across.

Like @Mopar1973Man mentioned they are very similar, and like @trreed said there are some differences, main one is the exhaust on my turbo is still 3" where the s362 is 4" so the 4-inch one will flow better. If it wasn't for my exhaust brake I would have went with s362. This is the turbo I got from link I posted above compared to hx35. I would call them and talk to Zack is who helped me, he should be able to answer all the questions. I remember that it's hx35 exhaust housing that is ported for a bigger wheel from some other holset turbo that was used on some other big engine, then the intake housing is from hx40, billet extended tip compressor wheel and all genuine holset parts nothing from china.

I believe he said close to 500, don't quote me on it though. I was looking for a safe 400, I think I'm close. Without dyno I'm only guessing. I think I can squeeze 500 out of it with my current mods

That's where I'd like to get, 400-500. Just a daily driver truck. I have been eyeing the SXE 362, but I like the when the HX spools. And the HX can be reworked cheaper than a new turbo. I mean I don't know a lot other than what we discuss on here and research, but I'm not sure if we are comparing apples to apples with a modded HX and an SXE 362. I know it comes down to use of the truck with power adders, so it's hard to ask if one turbo is better than the next.

Pretty much, all I need is a regular rebuild kit for hx35 to do mine, that's usually around $50

Without a compressor MAP and turbine flow its hard to do a side by side comparison

 

Looks like a good turbo and hope it works well for you.  Something to be said for modifying an hx35 or he351 and doing it different.  I am sure there are benefits to both a custom hx35 and sxe turbo.

 

FYI I have seen maps for 60mm compressors that varied from 56lbs/second to about 68lbs of flow. 

 

Those of you who have sized a prop for a boat may be familiar with more of the differences.... blades, pitch, inducer (usually the only one measured) and exducer diameter, hieght of the wheel, tip extension, extended tip, and the AR of the compressor.  

 

the 66mm SXe with larger compressor AR gained about 9lbs of flow by going to the larger housing.

 

SXE 64.5/88 exducer outflows the older design 66/91 exducer.

 

Maybe a turbo engineer or someone who is more familiar is reading and can offer details and pictures...

You guys crack me up!  I'm still in the <235 HP range  with my HY35 and stock (but fresh) injectors.
Hence my reading older posts about turbos
