I was wondering if removing it the silencer ring actually gave you more boost or cooler egt? I know it gives you a little more whistle didn't know if there was any other benefit to it. Thanks

It will provide you with 3 things... whistle, whistle, and whistle.

Adds weight to the truck, good for 5HP if you trash it.

Silencer ring...Why to keep it? - If you tow heavy trailer up long grades and like to keep some sanity leave it in.Why pull it out? - If you like lots and lots of turbo whistle noise. As for MPG or HP/TQ there is no change.

Maybe it's the intake location on the 3rd gen, but mine didn't really get much louder when it was removed. My Garrett doesn't even have an option for one, and it really only sings between 7-15 psi, but still not so loud it's annoying towing.

my 2001 6spd would really ring my ears when pulling heavy up long inclines at ~20-25psi.. Almost loud enough to be unbearable.. My '97 auto is hardly noticeable, yet both were without silencer ring..

Same here mine hardly did anything. The bhaf does a fair amount and exhaust plays a key part.

ive got a bhaf and 4" exhaust, yet it's still fairly quiet. almost have to listen for it.. It's nowhere near as obnoxious as it was on my 24v.

When i did my CAI i figured i would give it a shot. I like it...sometimes its a little much but road barriers and over passes are my best friend. Rolling my windows down at - degrees :lmao:

HAHA ^^^ I did notice that when I was running my AFE stage one cold air intake, the turbo was very loud. Almost unbearable!! I just got a Baldwin BHAF and it actually quieted down the turbo a lot. At first I thought the turbo was stuck or something until I looked at the gauge. That just shows the difference in filter quality between an "oiled" filter and a real filter I guess.

I bought my truck with 250K on it and I guess the silencer ring was already removed because its got a pretty sweet whistle.
