So as the title say's did you buy the Dodge or the Cummin's?? Over the year's i've heard prople I know say I'd love a Cummin's just don't want a dodge. I myself own 4 atm A 1974 Dodge D300 440, 2000 dodge 1500 360, 2000 Dodge 2500 V10, and a 2001 Dodge 3500 Cummin's. And as you can tell I buy my Truck's for the Brand on the Grille not the engine under the Hood Getting a Cummin's was just a bouns. But i was curious if any one else bought a Dodge truck that happened to have a Cummin's in it or a Cummin's with a dodge wrapped around it.....I hear the Phrase "It's a Dodge thing" used way to much. To me that's just BS for lazy owner's to lean on. To start a cracked Dash would not happen if the vehicle was wiped with persay Armor All wipe's weekly to keep it moist and was covered on sunny day's with a window Cover mine came from Duck's Unlimited work's great take's 2 minute's to do it. Mine was done on the 2001 dodge 3500 by the orignal when new till i bought it and still do as well guess what not a singal crack. Or the "Dodge Auto Transmission are junk" according to my local trans rebuilder who love's lazy owner's of these truck's say's the base tranny is great and nearly bullet proof if the guide line's are followed to the leter you could get 200k out of your tranny (Normal driving and towing that is) changeing your fluid'sand filter at 28k mile's and adjusting your band's every other change your good as gold.I'm not saying that dodge's are perfect nothing is but the brand take's to much flake from lazy people. So am i alone on this or are there more people out there that feel the same just Curious

When I bought it, I was buying the whole package. Looking back, all I care about is the cummins. I hate the brakes on these things and I hate the steering components. My old 1990 ford has 2 caliper brakes that slam your head against the windshield if you want them to and its 4wd and has less play in the steering than my 2wd dodge. People complain about the wiring on dodges but having stripped it down to every last wire, I didn't see too many issues other than a lot of things are undersized. The headlights are fed 16 or 18 ga positive wire only to be grounded with 20 or 22 ga wire. There are a lot of little flaws like that. I think ford does a better job. My fords headlights were much brighter. I think dodge also uses cheaper paint than usual. Though new chevy's seem to rot the fender wells after hitting the puddle on the way out of the dealership. If I did it all over again, I would still buy the dodge as it has the best interior. I would rewire everything (completely different than how I already did). I would find aftermarket brakes and aftermarket steering components, the more complete the kit (farther from OEM junk) the better. I think the bodies on these also are the most streamlined so probably help with MPG. Dodges do look the best. Chevys have always looked somewhat boring. Fords look fine but are bland, and the interiors on them are very industrial looking. I think 1960's bulldozer interiors look the same.

I bought mine for the cummins. I drove toyota pickups before because they last forever and that's why I wanted a cummins.

Always been a fan of Dodges, our family had several before the Cummins came along in the 80's and 90's and then it was a match made in heaven when the 2nd gen came along, although my dad bought one of the first off the line he got an 89 cummins 4wd chassis cab 3500!

I bought the first one because its a Dodge.

I bought the second because of the Cummins.

I bought the third, because I am too stubborn to quit playing with the engine. (Both pictures apply to me)

i bought it for both. love the second gen looks and love the second gen cummins!

I bought my first dodge(V-10) for the truck and the second one for the truck and the Cummins. I felt it was the best engine offered in a pickup. There are some things I don't like, but all in all after almost 12 years of service I cant complain a lot. I have been further and traveled longer in this one than any other I have ever owned.

I love my Dodge/Cummins. When my G/N trailer full of cattle hit the hi-way I just accelerate and grin.

I bought my first (ScoobyDoo) because it was a Dodge and I had been wanting a Dodge since before I could drive... Our Class C motorhome when I was growing up was a Dodge Fireball with the 440. My second (Shady) was Because it was Dodge and had a Cummins for pulling my BAHT (Big *** Horse Trailer) And my 3rd (YabbaDoo) was for the same reason    

I bought it because it had a steel bumper going on 4 deer now does that count. I still havent killed the thing. I have done normal repairs and i am 300k Plus I would buy a new one right now if i wouldnt have bought my wife a new baby taxi. That what happens with 3 kids . New truck for dad back burner.

I got my truck for the Cummins and NV5600 combo. I dont really care for the dodge but I dont hate it. If I had my choice, I think I would really like the same combo in a Ford. I think the Fords just hold up a lot better over time.

Been a chevy guy growing up. But once I knew how good a diesel was and the cummins, I was all over it. If I had the money, It would be a Chevy with a cummins coupled with the allison.

Mopar in my blood too.  Family owned a dealership (Fred W Smith Chrysler Dodge, established in 1916) gave up the franchise but is still around as antique, classic & used cars run by an inlaw.   But my folks preferred Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge & bought even when out of state.  Mom had a *Dodge 9 passenger wagon with fins!  Then there was a *64 Chrysler, my *68 RoadRunner, *68 Chrysler (bought 1 year old), a* Dodge step side with a slant 6 work truck, I inherited Mom's 97 Cirrus (my daily driver). 

There were also a few random Fords scattered in there...  a *59 Ford Fairlane (I wrecked Christmas week in 1967),  a couple of *Escorts, his & hers *Taurus's that Mom & Dad traded in at 6 months because they didn't like them Dad never said but I think it cost them a lot to trade.  (Dad had retired from Philco during the period when Ford owned them & had a Ford retirement...  could get employees discount.)

I never really liked the newer Ford products.

 

As for Chevy I was willing to try a Chevy Diesel at the time in 2002. Since my Dad worked for GM in Van Nuys, CA I figured I could get a pretty good discount on a truck. Well I was mistaken... The best a GM dealer was willing to do at the time was drop about $2,000 off the price of a Duramax at about $53,000 total. I went back down the street to the Dodge dealer and bought the 2002 Dodge 2500 for $32,000...

 

Just the shear price was enough to make me drop a GM. I'm still ahead of the game with my 12 year old Cummins...
