It has to be a 2nd Gen Smarty since you program and then de-program the truck.

Anyone got a smarty I can borrow??   Stealership is gonna charge me $60 to do it. Might just have to because there isnt anyone else near me all the way up here.

A Smarty would be a good Christmas gift anyhow.....

If you go to the dealership make sure they turn on the 3 cylinder mode.  I had to go the dealer and get the TSB done and made sure to tell them to enable it.

I live 60 miles from DieselAutoPower and am wondering if they would only bill me $45.00 to tune in the parking lot.  I guess I'll call them tomorrow and find out.  I need to set my tire height also as I'm 6 mph off according to the charts.

 

Question to the board: 

 

Even in warm weather my grid heater cycles every few seconds.  I have removed the IAT sensor to clean, but it was spotless as I have no exhaust brake. Should I replace the sensor, as I had to replace the MAP sensor a few years back?  I get tired of that annoying click and light dimming when the heater cycles off and on.

Normal as long as the IAT temperature is below 60-65*F it will cycle the grid heaters.

Unfortunately, IIRC, you will not be able to recalibrate your speedo for your tire size. Because of the catcher software, once you remove the smarty, your settings go back to stock. When you load a smarty onto a vehicle, the smarty "disables" itself and it can not be perpetually used to load onto other vehicles until the original is put back to stock.

funny, I've  seen you mention  this  'high idle'  ever since  I've been a member here...  but  finally read  this thread and others  about it!   I've been under the assumption  for over 30 yrs.   that 'high idle' is  and  has been  the  industries standard  for  what   the  diesel engine   can  turn: HIGH  means fast  as  governor  allows, and IDLE  means   "no load'.   At least   that is  what  my  service manuals  for  my  old  Cummins  and  Perkins calls it.

anyhoo, what ever name its called, I suppose there is  a place  for this  engine management tool.
