Or whats the most miles you ever heard on a Dodge trans that's original?

Mine has 82 k on it with no sign of problems. It's been hauling heavy about half those miles.

  • I'm up to 218k now and still original transmission. Tows daily 3000-12,000# trailer. I do go easy on it. Keeping rpms up and not lugging when possible. Seems like low rpms and high torque is hard on t

  • My 99 has 100% stock tranny with 178k, never touched other then routine maintenance. No slipping, tq still locks up nice. Goes to show if you go easy on these things they'll last a good long while wit

Most likely the torque converter is draining back in the pan. Most likely the check valve in the cooler line is not hold closed or it's been removed.

250,000 on bone stock 47RE. Still going and I really hope I didn't just jinx myself. Put an Edge EZ at ~220,000.

This truck has never really towed anything like a 5th wheel or something that heavy. I know I'm probably on borrowed time :(

I would say that you are nearing the end of useful life of the clutches in the trans.   But if your truck had an easy life then I wouldn't worry much,  You might do a band adjustment and verify you still have clutch surface on the bands.  Use that as a rough indicator of tranny life.

160k on my 1996 Dodge Ram 1500...

Dynamic Transmission Rebuilt now.

I'm dying to get it installed. Custom modified valve body, and lots of other modifed parts put into the trans.

2000 QCLB 4x4, 425k on my truck, and according to the original owner, the only thing he ever replaced was the vp44 at 300k. It does run good but only use it short distances nowadays. If it sits for a week or so I have to warm it up for a couple of minutes before it moves.

What is the advantage of removing the check valve in the cooler line? To make it easier to drain out?

There is no advantage to removing it unless replacing the cooler line with the oem line with a temp sensor port in it then they would be doubled up so removing one from the cooler fitting is needed so as not to have 2 in the line which then could cause lower flow issues.

Ever since I started paying attention at my buddys trans shop who builds mainly Cummins trans but does everything I've seen some pretty sorry excuses for (built trans) in these trucks mainly the big name brand ones remember he warrantys his trans for 3 years unlimited miles no matter what ur doing if pulling racing it's pretty interesting watching one get tore down and put back together

Interesting fact u can put a 4th gen trans in a second gen but u need a trans controller and a modded tc

If I remember correctly theres a blurb in the FSM about this. It is fluid draining out of the TC. It says to place the truck in neutral for 20secs or so to get fluid back into the TC prior to moving. I've had to do this on my 99 which sits a decent amount between drives and it'll do the same thing. Putting her in neutral just before taking off solved the issue.

If you have dynamic mod the valve body he can make it pump in park. So now on my 1996 Dodge its just needs a minute or so to fill the torque converter after the first start of the day. No need for neutral to fill the torque converter now.

My dad's 98.5 3500 has 298k still going. It sits alot these days.

My 99 2500 made it until 210k then it started slipping.

I have 255,000 on my 47RE, it's my daily driver. No real mods.

I'm approaching 90.000 on my oem 47re 2002 Dodge. If I can time it right for a rebuild before any damage, I will take it into Dynamic Transmissions.

150k on the original I could have kept going but I was towing heavy and the trans would slip from 2nd to 3rd.

I put a stock rebuild in along with a smarty programmer killed that trans at 179k.  Then I had a shop install a stage one Suncoast and that is still going today with 315k.

i had 238K on my 48re, before a rebuild and upgrade.. it was doing fine. builder said no reason to believe it would have failed. said it was in good shape for it's age.

Just did a tranny service. The reverse band was still in good shape. Front band needed adjusting and after adjusting, the adjustment screw is about flush with the locking nut, indicating I'm close to a rebuild. Shifts better now from 1 to 2. We have a great tranny shop near us so I'm confident they'll do it right. $$$ won't be fun though lol
