  1. I have the early edge with the same display as yours...I think. I turned off all the alarms and just drive sensible. I kept an eye on the numbers for a long time until I had a good idea of what was going on under the hood. I don't tow so heat is not much of an issue for me here. I am curious as to how you will like your new display. Regards Chris
  2. I have been wanting a heated seat for some time, especially after driving a jetta with heated seats. Anyway long story short is a got the whole front and rear leather seats. Power and heat on both sides. have the switches that go in the dash. Also got the storage tray under the back seat and the woodgrain dash. I guess my question is...how much grief is it to get the heat to work. My drivers seat is power and that was plug and play. This is probably going to mean I need a wire harness...ugh. Regards Chris
  3. What brand of ball joint did you use and are you happy with them at the moment. I have new ones in my truck and they are tight. They have been in the truck for about 10 K and have not loosened up. They were in the truck when I got it. Chris
  4. Hmmmm..my old Caterpillar engines (1930s) have the fuel filter housing surrounded by antifreeze. The warmer the engine the warmer the fuel. I do beleive its also controlled by a regulator (thermostat). Any engines of today use this idea. I should also mention these engines have a pony engine to start the main engine. This is a small 2 cylinder gas engine that heats and rolls over the big engine....big engine is 12 or 14 litres. Cold weather is no problem then for either engine. Not exactly as fast as the electric start with the toaster in the intake manifold. Regards Chris
  5. Just because I am curious...anyone have a spec for the cummins head bolts meaning tensile strength. Perhaps a comparison of them and the ARP studs. Its probabaly here already but I never word it the right way. Chris
  6. How about that...great minds think alike all the way up here in Canada. I slipped a vote for me sign between the radiator and charge cooler after I cut out an 8x8 hole in the middle. We don't seem to get the cold here that many of you get and I was a bit nervous of overheating. Never got above 200 just got there quicker. This year I am driving a beater jetta as much as possible instead of the truck, trying to keep it out of the salt. Regards Chris
  7. I have never even looked at the wastegate setup on mine. Is it possible to move it by hand to see if its stuck/sticky without dissassembly. Mine is a bit lazy at low speed and shows 0 or low boost when coasting along. Sorry for hijacking thread. Chris.
  8. Well.... I am in Nova Scotia. I think your truck will be warm by the time you get here and the coffee will be cold...the donuts , I have no idea how they will do. I should have just sent the DRB tool to Mike or Ed and let them help folks as they could do this easier than me. I don't think there are many members here in my area. Regards Chris
  9. The wifes ford is acting up so she has been "borrowing" my truck even though she hates Dodges. She started it this morning, was about 20 degrees and it went to high idle on its own. She remarked that it was cold for it to do that. I said no we don't have any idea about cold. Folks here know all about 30 and 40 below...brrrrrrr. Regards Chris
  10. Ummm...unless I read it wrong there is 20 psi before the filter and 0 after it. Shouldn't that tell you to change the filter. I might be wrong but thats the first thing to do and I keep a filter handy all the time. I am very carefull where I buy fuel but have been caught with crap in it once. It can happen. regards Chris
  11. I think I should do a little slideshow of me doing this. Could even show the high idle kit I put in thanks to Mike and Ed they are painless. Chris
  12. With my DRB 3 scan tool you just go in to owner preferences ( I think thats what it says) and there is a heading to enable high idle. You just click the yes arrow and its done. I should be doing this for people ...bring me a coffee. Only takes about 2 minutes and I am not "good" at it yet. Regards Chris
  13. Hello again. The truck in question is a 99. The stainless cable is actually a throttle cable from a chainsaw. Small engine wrenching is my job. The cable will probably outlast the rest of the cupholder. I will have to do the other side however. Regards Chris
  14. Yes it finally happened. Until I broke it I wondered how everyone managed to break them. I should have known better. What a crappy little tab that holds it all together. I am starting to think thet if you look into every problem that these trucks have, it comes down to crappy plastic somewhere. From the dash to the tie rod ends to the cup holder to the piston cooling jets. A piece of plactic was involved. But I have rambled enough. Finding a good used cupholder is next to impossible and new parts ...well I did not even call. Figgured I could pull the whole thing out and have a look at the thing from the inside. I decided to use a small piece of stainless wire and loop it around the center hinge then use a small screw in a pre drilled hole where the bottom pivot used to be. Took a few minutes to get the length right buy I managed to get it. I used a wire connector to hold it together. This repairs 1 side. I will try to find a bit more of the wire and do the other side. If it actually works for a week I will come up with a few pics to explain it all. Was pretty simple and opens and closes like new. Best part is the "fix" cant be seen. Regards Chris
  15. You can get shrink tube with a sealer inside it. Its a nice bit thicker and will really seal your connections. As far as a brand or place to buy it...I don't know. Just have used it at work. Regards Chris
  16. Ummm Ed... The rest of the crowd won't ask but I will. What were you doing in a RV from 1974...second childhood. You have to be carefull in those places. Dont eat any smarties or M&Ms you find. Chris
  17. I knew the high idle only takes a few moments. i worked at a dealer (paint shop) when these trucks were new. The service technicians were my friends, a couple still are. Was told by a retired technician that most of the DRB tools were mostly trashed from a zillion guys using them for 15 plus years Chris
  18. I got my high idle flashed at the dealer...170 bucks. My 100 dollar DRB that I scored this summer seems pretty cheap after that. Its a nice tool to use but does not add performance. Chris
  19. Just what are they updating in the ECM and is it done with the DRBIII. It cant be that involved if a Smarty can do it, or can it. My DRBIII works fine if anyone needs use of it here in Nova Scotia. Regards Chris
  20. Has anyone resolved the big cam lope. I have noticed it a time or 2 with mine.only lasts a couple seconds but makes me nervous. Regards Chris
  21. Jeese...I had no troubles with the banjo fittings and grommets on mine. Was just in there putting on a new IP and injectors. Smartest thing I did was building a platform like a big set of steps right in front of the truck. Lots of room for tools and parts. It helps that I am not a very big lad and can just about lay down on the valve cover LOL. Regards Chris
  22. I just put a new IP and set of DAP 100 injectors in my truck this evening. Its very ,very peppy on the bottom end now. Feels like you can break the tires (285 75 16 ) loose with out trying. I am not much interested is spinning tires or speed but the truck certainly is now. Was always somewhat pokey at low speed, not now Driveability has improved I would say. Chris
  23. Well...that was interesting. The packaging really sucks and the injectors looked like they were in a mudpuddle somewhere along the way. Had to clean them before installing them. The install of the pump was pretty easy (read the instructions here a few times) All done and started not to bad. Took it fore a drive and it works well, run out of road pretty quick. I did not tap the pump...will wait a month or 3 to see how the new injection pump works. I have no idea what to do with the cores... no instructions or return label from DAP. A lesson for Canadians...do your shopping in Canada. Not really complaining but DAP must sell to Canadian customers from time to time, they don't make it easy to earn repeat business. Regards Chris
  24. The Missus let me know that my parts came this morning...almost 500 dollars to get them accross the border. Thats not very good in my book. Chris
  25. Does your engine have the crankcase vent into the little bottle on the front of the engine. If so you might be leaking oil from a full bottle. There are a few threads about it and Michael has a nice write up about repairing it. They can be messy if just left alone. Chris
