  1. So what do you think caused these to break in the first place? Age and fatigue or was the adjuster rod binding up?
  2. I haven't had one of these dash boards apart in a while but it sounds like one of your selector doors is stuck or a vacuum line is off or broken.
  3. Between last night and this morning I've got at least 12" of heavy snow, glad I put chains on the plow truck. Started back up again a little bit ago but they're saying it could turn into rain so that will be ugly.
  4. I would say the the biggest difference it made was cutting down the exhaust drone to almost nothing. I don't think it's all that quieter but maybe I set my expectations to high. I've had a few people say it's noticeably quieter. I also ran out of material and this is all I could do for the back of the cab. Didn't have time to wait for more so I'm sure that's not helping .
  5. Well it's finally winter here in northern MN. 3" last night and coming down at more than an inch an hour now.
  6. If you're pulling the carpet its a good time for some sound deadening
  7. No support bracket that I know of. They are one of the easier starters to change actually other than being kind of heavy to hold with one hand and line up the bolts.
  8. 285/75/16 cooper discover at3. I'd like to try that chalk method but it's been sleet and snow here for the past month so a dry patch of pavement is hard to come by. Unless a 30ft run in the garage would do.
  9. Well I finally got time to pull it in the garage but I don't have much for an update. What I can say is the the rear axle is perfectly centered and straight with the frame and the LS is functioning like it should. I don't have easy access to a scale but I did drop the rear tire pressure to 45psi in a heated shop which should put me at 40ish once the winter temps take over. So at this point I guess I'm giving up on it and hoping for the best. Maybe I'm just destined to spend all my money on tires. Thanks for the help.
  10. The first thing I would do is get the charging system checked to see what it's actually charging at. 15 volts is high enough it could boil the battery. There are a few different things that could cause this so you need verify if it's actually over/under charging.
  11. Well when you say it like that I sure do sound boring! Just to clarify I do tow trailers....down gravel roads...just haven't yet with the new tires. I should have an open stall in my garage by this afternoon (all my Junkers want my constant attention)I'll pull it in and go over it. So riddle me this. If I jack up one rear tire with the trans in neutral how much force should it take to break the tire loose? I was told by a retired dodge tech that even with a strategically placed pry bar I'm not man enough to do this. If I'm not hearing any chattering or seeing/hearing a tire dragging on tight corners is it safe to say the LS is ok? I've been inside a lot more Chevy rear ends than dodge rear ends...
  12. When I spin one tire they both turn together like a posi trac. The tread depth measurement was pretty much dead even across the face of the tire on both rears. 13/32nds on the LR slightly under that on the RR.
  13. Good points and I'll go over everything again but I'll say it's doubtful. I put new springs hangers and U bolts in a year ago. Seems like the the more attention I give this rig the more it wants to fight back.
  14. Which is why I think I have bigger issues than just tire pressure.
  15. Yes measured from the middle of the tread. I'd be happy with 30-40k miles but right now I'm averaging 1/32nd of wear per 1000 miles so...
  16. Ok I'll play with the air pressure a bit hopefully this helps. My wife has driven it a few times recently....maybe I should be questioning her about the worn tires.
  17. Good point and this did cross my mind. I started out around 45psi but I didn't like the way it drove on the highway. Back end felt a littlesoft on high speed corners. Should mention they are 285/75/16 so I figured more sidewall=more psi to help the sidewall from flexing. Seems to drive the best around 60psi. Last set of tires were stock size and run at 40ish psi.
  18. So I put a new set of Cooper Discover at3 tires on about 3,000 miles ago. I looked at them today and the fronts are still new at 16/32nds but the rears are already worn to 13/32nds maybe a little less. -I'm not out doing burnouts or even launching starts. -Little to no hauling or towing with these tires. -Pretty much all highway miles with maybe 20 miles of dirt road. -60psi It should be noted that my last set of tires (Firestone Transforce AT) wore quickly also, about 20k and they were down to 4/32nds. I just chalked it up as junk tires. So what gives, I know they're softer tires but at this rate I'll be lucky to make it through the winter. One theory I have is maybe my rear limited slip isn't releasing and dragging the inside tire through corners? The only reason I say this is a while back something in the back made a binding/clanking noise through tight corners while I was towing. It sure sounded like an LS issue. Couldn't replicate the noise the next day and every thing looked good when I pulled the cover. Any thoughts are appreciated cause tires ain't cheap!
  19. I have that alternator. The first one lasted about 6 months and 5k miles and just quit charging one day. The second one has about 15k miles on it and I've noticed the AC voltage is starting to climb on it. Not in the danger zone yet but any higher and it'll go back for a warranty.
  20. Don't be concerned with your pressure readings. All of us with an electric pump see a pressure drop with increased rpm, while your just the opposite. A little over 20 psi isn't going to hurt anything I say run it like it is.
  21. Time to stop running the engine, get an oil analysis to see how much fuel is in the crankcase and if it caused damage, pull the injectors.
  22. Oh dear god... And people drive these on the road?
