  1. Yep I have them both on relays controlled by a lighted switch.
  2. Get some of these and never gel again! Even when it's like this outside.
  3. Hmmm I could use a definition of knuckle joint shaft. Just center to center on the tie rods?
  4. It's worth a shot the worst that can happen is it will leak.
  5. I'll have my truck in the garage tmw if you can wait. I'd go check now but it's cold and snowy.
  6. You don't really want to see any horizontal movement. Dodge has a tolerance for vertical movement and I believe it's .60 or .90"
  7. Correct the one you're pointing to is the overflow banjo fitting. This is where excess fuel returns back to the tank. It takes two 14mm rubberized washers.
  8. It's a 14mm rubber coated washer. I've used copper washers as a temporary fix to get me home but they didn't seal up completely. Google something like "cummins banjo washers" you'll get a better idea of what I'm talking about. Also the fuel return banjo bolt on the back of the head takes a 12mm washer so you should get a few of those while your at it, I'm sure you'll need them eventually.
  9. Do you still have the factory fuel filter housing? Those have been known to leak from a few different spots.
  10. I'm closing in on 30k on my Napa joints and still tight, but who knows they'll probably break at 31k... I've pretty much accepted that any parts store joint aren't up to my standards.
  11. http://custombatterycables.com/ I've heard good things about these guys. If the cables are in good shape but the ends are junk you could go this route. Also I wasn't impressed with liquid tape in the pic so I peeled it off and used heat shrink.
  12. Looks good! Nice tight fit. Good call on the extra support for middle section. Are there any supports from the frame to the outer sections?I know that factory bumper has one, would be an easy addition If it doesn't.
  13. I have referred to my truck as "The Turd" before, so toilet cleaner does seem fitting.
  14. Yep definitely not the first person to run this setup.
  15. It sounds to me like your batteries might be getting weak or the battery cable ends need to be cleaned up. The grid heaters put a big draw on the batteries before you start it, then the starter draws them down some more. Then right after it starts the grid heaters kick on again further dragging down the batteries. So basically the battery voltage is getting low and your ecm isn't happy about it until the alternator can catch back up.
  16. It's very possible that the brand new alternator is bad, I've seen it happen a lot. You could also try pulling the alternator fuse and see if the problem goes away.
  17. I came real close to buying a big gooseneck like this when I was trailer shopping but talked myself out of it. The length and capacity would have come in very handy the last few years but on the other hand the smaller trailer keeps me from hauling really big projects home, which also keeps me in a happier marriage.
  18. That was kind of what I was thinking, I like to have options.
  19. Earlier this fall I finally had enough of the cheap fenders that came on my car hauler so I decided it was time for a new set. The stockers were cheap aluminum that would bend and break if you looked at them wrong so instead of buying new ones I decided to build a bullet proof set. Now I will admit these things are way overkill and didn't need to be built completely out of 1/4" plate but that's what I had so that's what I used. Out of gas in the wire feed on day one so I stitched them together with the stick welder. Fired up the wire feed and corner welded everything. Squaring up on the trailer. Burnt on for keeps. Acouple final pieces. Paint and lights. I would have liked to make them out of diamond plate for some added traction but I didn't have any and didn't feel like buying any. They are very sturdy and work good as a support for some short sideboards or I can easily drive over them if I'm loading a wide vehicle.
  20. Take lots of pictures I'm definitely interested in a write up. I have a pile of steel, a welder and plenty of time since I'm laid off right now so if you don't mind I might steal some of your design and build my own.
  21. Some of the best techs I know are certified/uncertified. I've also seen some real hacks that are certified/uncertified. When I was wrenching my employer would give me a small bonus for every certification I got so it was worth it.
