Regulator Conversion
Oh, you're right, I missed that. If you've got them handy that would be cool. This thread is making me want to dig into the battery/charging side of the truck...

Regulator Conversion
I took a quick look over your datasheet, I don't see temperature adjusted, anywhere. Maybe I missed it though. What are out there for temperature adjusted voltage regulators? I think it would be an interesting project to make ones own charge controller, maybe even use a ATtiny or something of the sort.

Why I usually do my own work whenever I can....
Dang that's a mess! The only guy I let touch my vehicles is my mechanic. He's not great, but if something goes wrong I can blame him and he'll fix it or buy a new one. Though that hasn't stopped me from wanting to fire him, only real reason I haven't is I'm the only one I have.

P0234
Howdy Guys, Well I've been trying to help 8181 with this issue in the chat room, and frankly, I'm not a 47re expert. But here are some details he's given me. Hopefully someone a little more auto savvy can chime in. Thanks!

IAT fooler
You can screw other things up for sure. One reason disconnecting your batteries are a good practice. One that I don't follow as well as I should.

AIT sensor access?
Are you sure you got the right sensor? Been a while since I messed in that area of a 24 valve, maybe it's different then a 12 valve.

Lets Talk!
Howdy Again! First thing I want to say is a simple thank you. Thank you to all that came into Chat last night, and to all that have come in the last couple weeks! I was having a blast, and was able to meet so many new virtual faces! I believe we got up to 10 people in there at once! So Again, I want to send a Thank You to each and every one of you! And please feel welcome to come in again for tonight's get-together, or any time you just wanna BS with someone. Nice Meeting you all, Brad

Lets Talk!
Howdy Guys and Gals. Just a simple reminder to myself and others. Tonight will be another get-together, and hopefully a big one! I've had the privilege of meeting some of you in the last week, And boy was I having a great time! I hope to meet you soon! Brad

Regulator Conversion
So you're saying the optimal charge controller would be one that either reads the battery temperature, or uses the signal from the PCM (if it's still good) and does all the heavy lifting it's self.... Would anyone know off hand what kind of temperature sensor it is? I'd imagine it's just a thermistor.

Regulator Conversion
I've heard some say that the alt kicks out when the grids go on. But I personally do see that to be true. If it was, then why would the alt on my 97 bog the engine down so much it tries to die every time the grids kick on! And when running the 99 with completely dead batteries, it should have died as well (it would die, but I disconnected the grid relays, and that fixed it) I'm almost positive the engine grunts a little more with the grids on as well...

Help Me Out
Also, when Idling, the turbo can leak oil into the compressor. It's my understanding that it just allows oil to get past the seal, and doesn't have any other ill effects to the turbo. Besides of course coating your entire intake piping with oil. I'm going to say he's mis-informed. Back a while ago I had an old turbo (WH1C) that had been in the back of a truck I bought, I wanted to oil the insides of it so I took some ATF and poured it in the inlet, well within a minute oil was coming out the drain. Here are some junky pictures I got of it. You can see the hole that the oil feeds through on the top of the outer race (hope that's the right term). Like ISX, if I said anything about air filters, I'd just be regurgitating what I've heard.

A different slant on looking at fuel prices, lowest in history now.
Yeah, it's interesting to view it like that. Another way of looking at it, 2004 gold was at $409/oz. 2013's average price of gold was $1530/oz....

Ripped intercooler boot
I picked up a bunch of boots a couple months ago knowing sooner or later all my trucks would need them. They are a 3" to 3.5" 45* elbow. The 3.5" side is a little tight, but with a little lube it fits (not one comment from any of you *looks at ISX* lol). They're 4 ply and a lot thicker then stock. I forget exactly what the cost was on them, IIRC they are around $27.50 shipped, either Blue or Black in color. If you want a slightly HD'er boot, you can go here http://www.intakehoses.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=I&Screen=PROD&Category_Code=DRI&Product_Code=R45B-300-363DR EDIT, forgot to embed the links for the cheaper boots. They're there now.

Lets Talk!
Howdy Guys, First off I hope everyone had a great Christmas and are enjoying there Sunday. Mike (Mopar1973Man) has recently upgraded the chat room so 20 can now be in there at once! And since I was hoping to get to know you all better, I would like to setup a get-together In the Chat room. This meet-up would be every Saturday & Sunday evenings. The Topic can be what ever you like. How your Dinner was. How your ford broke down. How much you're enjoying your beer. Or your affections towards goats!!! Logging in the Chat room isn't limited to these dates. You can check-in whenever you would like, if there isn't anyone on, maybe stick around and someone might pop in. I hope to see you soon! Brad

98 12v dies right away, no gauges.
I can confirm pulling the ASD relay screws with charging! Turns out I did have mine in, when the in-tank pump went out, I put the relay in the ASD slot as my "spare" holder haha. However, Tom, are you sure that it a bad CPS will turn off the whole gauge cluster? Well testing the charging issue, I also tried disconnecting the CPS. Still had oil pressure, volts, fuel level, and MPH for sure not sure about the water temp cause the engine wasn't up to temp yet.

Hmmm very interesting, mine hasn't had an ASD since I through it together, better make sure it's charging correctly! Sorry OP, over.

98 12v dies right away, no gauges.
You are correct, looking at it I miss-worded some things there. The green tracer wire is losing power, but because of the radio, overhead console, and gauge cluster. It is obviously not the issue. There are three different switches inside the ignition switch, one that powers the green/blk wire, and one that powers the radio. Both those get fed by the same wire, a red one that goes through #3 fuse in the PDC. If it were me, I would check that fuse, check for power before and after the fuse, and then check for power at the inlet of the ignition switch. As far as trouble codes, I don't think it would even throw that lol. I had mine apart to the frame, and then back together. And for grins I checked for codes... nothing. They have a ASD relay (Auto Shut Down) but it doesn't do anything, I've tried shorting it, nothing. It's probably there from the gassers, cause mine also has all the wiring/relays/fuses for a in tank fuel pump.
