Sad news
If one could get the engine tune they use in motorhomes and other bigger vehicles would be ok, but they are so dead A$$ doggy in pickups its pathetic. I have driven quite a few of them and I would not own one in a pickup, even ford guys hated them versus the 460 engine in pickups but take a Ford v10 in a 30+ foot motor home chassis and they are fire breathing tire burning monsters and do the same mileage as pickups. I do not miss the noise of my 02 either versus my 05 overall. The only thing I miss about my 02 was the driver seat was way more comfy, other than that don't miss any of the three 2nd gens I owned in comparison to the 05.

1993 Ford 7.3L A/C re-seal job
If you are doing that much ac work then I have to ask why you are using cans rather than 30lb kegs of Freon and a digital scale? Would save both you and the customers time and money down the road.

Cummins Prices
Most 24v 2nd gens around here are in the mid single G's to low teens anymore. One can buy early 3rd gens for low to upper teens all day long now even. Low mileage around me is anything under 150K though. Anything at the 200K mark or higher is dirt cheap, I am seeing 2010-2012 Cummins loaded full deletes ect with close to 200K selling for around 20K lately. The only ones holding value really strong are all the mega cabs but I have seen a few nice ones go fro less than 20K already.

Crankcase Vent Modification Pieces
Nothing to do with luck, I pay attention to what I do. My old hose was stiffer than that, partial crowbar type old hose, no kinking possible with it. Sounds like someone didn't pay attention when routing the hose if it got kinked, not the fault of the hose.

Crankcase Vent Modification Pieces
I just added a chunk of old 5/8 garden hose to the existing hose with an adapter fitting and ran it into the frame rail hole next to the engine and back and exited it out the hole in the frame rail next to the t-case in front of the fuel tank on my 02 let it hang out about 6 inches, worked like a charm for many years, not one single issue in wet icy winters muddy off-road use or any other type of normal daily abuse my rigs see. I think this was about the first thing I did to my 02 when I bought it after having worked on 2nd gen cummins for quite a few years and seeing the radiators and everything else plugged all the time with oil and dirt. Cost me nothing from old garbage I pack rat , total time maybe 10 minutes, being a pack rat priceless. Beauty was it was totally hidden and unseen.

VW uses and recommends it in all literature even on our old 03 TDI.

Teardown and Rebuild
Consider this, Almost all vehicles come from factory with synthetic in most all compartments now and especially true with Euro and Asian vehicles. So why then is this old school thought still exist of needing dyno for break in yet?

Teardown and Rebuild
This should keep you busy for a bit. This is old already and the next low emission oil is already on the cusp of being released. Gawd forbid an engine would happen to burn a teaspoons worth of oil and plug up the emissions system and pollute our environment, running air through a new diesel engine emissions system actually cleans it and comes out the exhaust cleaner than it goes in the engine in certain areas of the country they claim. http://www.machinerylubrication.com/Read/1036/diesel-engine-oil http://www.apicj-4.org/2009_ENGINE_OIL_GUIDE.pdf

2014 VW Jetta TDI emissions
Wife is taking it on the first long road trip the next couple days headed to southern Minnesota for a family gathering. Will get some road trip mileage if she can keep it under 90 mph. It has done from 42 to 45 mpg over the last 3 tanks since the delete just normal daily driving it. Up from best of 39 before deletes.

battery tenders
Couple weeks is fast to have dead batts as others have said, either a draw or a bad battery. I too have left mine sit for a couple months between uses with no issues. Still have the OEM batts in my 05 @ 119K miles.

I'm done with NAPA over a failing alternator, and TC lockup issues.
Never heard of a lifetime warranty being a one shot deal, sounds like they are fleecing you. I replace under warranty several alts on my wifes 03 Jetta from Oreileys and none would make it more than 15-18 K miles before brush or bearing failures on them. finally gave up and bought a brand new one from Rock auto and took my 3rd reman back to Oreileys and got a refund which was actually more than what a brand new one cost me and never had an issue for over 2 years until we sold the car a few months ago. What sucked was it was about a 2 hour job on the hoist as it has to come out the bottom after removing the fans and ac compressor and belt and belt tensioner after I got good at it to do an alternator swap on the thing.

I have bought lots and lots from them as well and have had good luck. Like cowboy said quality is solely on the choice you make as they offer up most every option to you.

TURBO!
The POD tunes on the JR were way cleaner than it was in total stock state even on my 05, If you think it has a light haze now you would have been in shock and awe at how smoky it was with the original tune before I updated it to POD.

"I think I'm crazy" cab swap
Saw one almost exactly like that one on the interstate going through Mandan ND last week, had out of state plates on it pulling a trailer with another vehicle on it and it was rusted out even worse than yours, I have never personally seen one even close to that bad before. I don't think he had to roll the windows down for a breeze in the cab.

1st UOA on the new motor
Mine always show a bit higher copper than anything else too both the 02 and the 05 show this consistent. Nothing to worry about.

TURBO!
Our elevation averages 2500' in my area of the state and terrain is hilly with miles long gradual grades and some quick steep grades and then the worst is our head and cross winds a lot of days 15-30++ mph.
