  1. First time I have seen a dash laid back on a 3rd gen. Have done many 2nd gens but never a 3rd, looks to be a bit more congested underneath a 3rd gen dash than a 2nd gen for sure.
  2. Lucky here too, they use salt and other chemicals but only on city streets and interstates, not too much outside of that but they seem to be using a bit more in recent years but it doesn't seem to bother like I does in other areas where they must use some higher octane salt lol. I tend to hit the car washes a lot more often in the winter with the under body wash jets just to keep the excess build up of the white stuff knocked down and first thing in spring all vehicles get an intense underbody and frame wash.
  3. Probably due to the "contact" high everyone now has down there in Colo. lol.
  4. Not all coal is created equally either, here in ND we have lignite which is the softest lowest quality highest moisture coal lowest BTU coal. better is bituminous and sub bituminous which is very prevelant in Wyoming and then the hardest best coal comes from the east, which is anthocite coal best for forges.
  5. I couldn't imagine, my brother in law has a 2015 f150 3.5 eco-boost in Iowa city IA and I was driving it around there a couple weeks ago and at low around town speeds on the hills there it could barely pull itself around very much underpowered at low speed low rpms if the turbo isn't spooled, I couldn't even imagine it in those conditions with a load or trailer. totally helpless.
  6. 100K on a vw is even better than a cummins depending on the previous owners maintenance practices. Thing to watch for on the 100K range is if it has had the timing belt and water pump done or is in need of it. I find if they are right at or close to the 100K mile range and on the lot they are due for the belt and water pump and folks trade versus do this maintenance. VW diesel engines are 500K ++engines if maintained well, been long proven as long as if not longer the the cummins longevity wise. The new ones are even better, my 2014 Jetta TDI has a recommended timing belt and water pump interval of 130K miles now versus 80K of just 10 years ago but they did release improved parts that jumped that to 110K for my old 03.
  7. I have had really good luck buying pre-owned from dealers, but the trick I use is that the vehicles must have at least a years worth of factory warranty left for the amount of miles I put on so I can nit pick the heck out of it before warranty runs out, last few I have bought in the 16-25K mile range and are 1-2 years old, using this method has not let me down. I save a boat load over buying new and still have full warranty for 1+ years with option of adding onto that if so desired.
  8. POD set @ 85% prolly doesn't help any either.
  9. The coal mine I work for still sells to a company that sells stoker and lump coal to the public. coal furnaces are extremely common in our area and is still by far the cheapest heat source there is but it does require different furnace and maintenance depending on the type of system one uses and wether it is lump or stoker ect.
  10. could be an application #, don't worry about it the internals are the same on all dana 60 - 70 - 80 ect except that there can be 2 different style of Limited Slip units in some,
  11. That is one thing about Subaru that I hate, They have had leaks to no end on their engines for eons and still can't get it right, not sure on the new ones but my mother in-laws 05 is horrible for head gasket leaks as well yet.
  12. I did both, spend tons of money on my rigs and beer/bars, But eventually that hunk of iron will be in a junk yard no matter the money you spent on it and you will have memories forever of the fun and friends you meet along lifes road. I will never regret the fun times and money blown on beer and bars when I was younger, some of my best memories.
  13. My uncle is looking into a diesel car and was seriously looking at the cruze until he test drove one and a VW tdi in the same day, said the cruze was a piece of junk tin can in comparison to the vw.
  14. Found this yesterday. No help but true, fire can do the same, it can take back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rM6txLtoaoc&feature=player_embedded
  15. Tons of options in the crossover suv market that are AWD and very comfy to drive lots of interior room and get 20-30+ mpg depending. I love my Nissan Murano AWD most comfy vehicle I have ever owned and has a 3.5 V-6 with a ton of power but only does 22-23 mpg.
  16. Buddy of mine had his 03 CR totally dusted due to a bad air filter and maintenance and was burning a quart of oil in 100 miles and the filler cap test was nill at no load idle or even revved a bit, didn't move at all but it was leaving puddles of oil out the breather tube where ever he parked.
  17. I would lean towards an eroded head gasket. Pull the head and have it inspected and look over the block which I would highly doubt is the issue, then install a new head gasket, @ that mileage I was leaning that way anyhow but didn't see this thread in time as I was on the road for a week and half and never checked the net. Oil coolers don't generally weep a bit of oil they usually fail all together and flood the system with oil pretty quick.
  18. Did it on my 02 many years back and was fairly easy, did the borgeson steering shaft upgrade at the same time.
  19. Non Citrus only, the acid in citrus dish soap will deteriorate the rubber in hoses.
  20. Best way to flush a coolant system with oil in it is to mix powdered non-citrus cascade dishwasher powder in a pail of warm water and dissolve it and fill the radiator with the mixture and top off with water and run to operating temps and do this several times until system is clean. The only recommended way of doing it as per several engine mfg's.
  21. Looked good and smooth, where did you place at against the others?
  22. Pretty much narrows it down to the entire rig, all 4 corners marker lites to trailer plug to all dash lites. I would start with any add-ons and go from there.
