  1. I'm pretty sure I read on one of quads tuning pages that the turbo timer could also be based on time, not temp. That's probabaly what I'd do since I watch my EGTs before shutting off. That way as long as temps were around 4-450 you could turn off the truck and walk away knowing the truck won't actually turn off for another minute or so and temps would be well below safe by that point.
  2. I always try and get it fired up! But it doesn't always turn out to be a barn burner. I would totally be in chat all day if it weren't for the stupid IE blockers they have setup.
  3. I agree! Where's this opti-lube been hiding and why has it taken so long to come out, especially on this site!!??
  4. Those are good numbers, pretty much what I think my end game power would be. It'd be interesting to see how much the quad and custom tuning could tame the smoke and increase power and drivability. Also curious if twins would bump power too.
  5. Welcome back!
  6. Clearly running anything bigger then stock, you're more then likely to put extra/unneeded strain on drivetrain components. With that said, if you drive nice majority of the time and don't hot shot it, I think things would be ok for the most part. Still probabaly some extra wear and tear but nothing too crazy. I'm currently on 315's just an FYI.
  7. I have two Cummins! Problem is they're both autos!
  8. I'm subscribing just so I can live vicariously through you @CSM for a bit while I get my trans sorted and determine everything else. How much power do you think your making on your current setup?
  9. Wowzers! That seems a little high! Hahah
  10. Always good news when the boss gives you the go ahead on spending money!
  11. I definitely agree @leathermaneod! I think points you and others have brought up prior have me leaning back towards just building the auto. I have faith that @Dynamic won't disappoint and by the time I'm driving out of there I'd forget all about a manual swap. And if for some reason it comes back up, I'll be on the hunt for a nice 1st gen!
  12. Do you mind sharing what parts you put in? Or who did it? I sorta feel like the majority of auto builds depend on who did the build. True! But with 3 trucks already in the driveway and the wife telling me it needs to be 2 or else... I don't want a manual THAT bad! haha
  13. Thanks for all the insight on this auto vs manual debate. These last two points you made are what have really been the toughest debates for me. Not to knock the 4500/5600 trans, I wouldn't mind having either, but if I'm going to swap I'd prefer to go G56 since its the best, but that's more effort then I'd want to put into a swap right now. The rear axle was something I'd thought about as well, and being that I have an 02, finding a dana 80 with discs is tough. If I'm going to do a swap, I want the best, and that's the G56 and dana 80, but those combined with everything else involved and the time, start to add up to a lot more then a built auto. On the flip side, I don't want a built auto that drives fine empty but has quirks when towing. That's something I'm hoping Dynamic can put to rest and work his magic so you could have the best of both worlds with the built auto. My towing is and probably never going to be close to GCVW. Obviously I can't predict what all I'd tow, but it wouldn't be something I'd regularly be doing. More then likely I'd be around 8-10k MAX regular towing, pulling a TT for camping trips. I really don't think I can say that I'd prefer one trans over the other, being that they both have their pros and cons, so really at this point it comes down to getting the best trans setup I can get for what fits my budget and future power goals.
  14. That fresh dash looks amazing! buuuuut you forgot your shifter!
  15. too funny! I might have too. What all do you have done to your trans?
  16. Yea see 98, that's the other things. I've never been in a built auto cummins so I don't really know what to expect. I know all about the slush box stocker, but no idea about built auto. I think if it were built right with like 2nd gear lock up, firm shifting when needed but smooth while cruising that the auto starts to seem more appealing. But there's always just something about rowing gears that'll be appealing to me. Ughhh decisions decisions!
  17. If I remember correctly, tow hooks are no longer produced, but I could be wrong. Might want to try searching your local junk yards.
  18. All good points fellas! That's what's awesome about this place, a thread starts on injectors and ends up morphing into a auto/manual talk! haha I'm going to revisit the built auto talks with Dynamic. If I remember right, I think his stage 2 build good to hold 450hp is 3,270. Pretty tempting when a full nv4500 swap is right around that same price if not more!
  19. Ughhh! Damn you Tyler!
  20. Yea I know I don't have to swap, but the idea of having the truck a manual is hard to suppress! That's what I was originally looking for, but the wife said she would want to be able to drive it, but now she doesn't want to , and plus, 02 5/6spd trucks around here were like 5-8 grand more then autos. I might have to give Dynamic a call again and discuss what my plans for the truck are and see what he thinks.
  21. Yea I agree Dripley. I'm not after huge numbers, but I also like to do as littler redundant work/mods as possible ya know? I don't really see my mods going any bigger then a quad, injectors and slightly bigger turbo.
  22. These mods won't me made until I do a manual swap or drop the truck off at Dynamic for a few days for him to work his magic. I still can't make up my mind on which way to go, but I'm leaning more towards the swap! But, I've been around here long enough to know about the weak link that is... dunh dunh dunh... the stock auto -_-
  23. So just to clarify, I'm all stock on power mods. Stock injectors and fueling (except the FASS). I was just sort of brainstorming injector ideas and had questions about the rv's since I didn't really know anything about them. My plans for the truck are for it to be a solid tow rig. I'll more then likely run a quad, and bigger sticks and eventually a bigger turbo but, with towing in mind.
  24. Ok so if we're not talking RVs then what's a good injector size to run with an HX35 or eventually slightly bigger single with towing in mind?
  25. Thanks for the input guys. I've heard awesome things about DFI as well. I'm pretty sure getting injectors that are flow and pop matched really comes down to where you're buying from, so being as I'd only go through vendors of the site, or DFI, I should be good to go, but definitely worth double checking. I wouldn't mind getting injectors sort of on the edge of the limits that the HX35 can provide, with plans of getting a bigger turbo later. I just don't want to get into some injectors that I would ABSOLUTELY need to upgrade my turbo to use. To me that defeats my purpose, and like I mentioned before, I really just want an overall super solid tow rig. I'm not worried about it being fast or rollin' coal! Just good clean, useable power that can tow almost anything.
