  1. I got a smoking deal on a used smarty for my 98. The guy was selling it for his buddy and wasnt sure if it was vin locked or not but didnt think it was. Last time he tried to download it the truck wouldnt take it so he put it back in the case and left it alone. His buddy says he can try to get a few bucks for it and I bit. He sient me pics and from them it did not look vin locked. I got it today and it would not finish downloaded, it would start at 0% and then time out communication or something. After this it my truck would not start so I was worried I just fried my ecm. I ended up unhooking my battery cables and then running the download, it worked but then it was just updated by smarty and still in the stock setting. To get it to actually download a catcher file I had to undo my battery cables again and it finally took the tune. What I dont understand is, why am I haveing to unhook my batteries each time? I have downloaded a buddies smarty and there were no problems at all. If it was not such a hassle, I would put it on a buddies truck to see if its my truck or the smarty. The end.
  2. Now that you mention it, I believe some one told me the threads are different on 4th gens than all other years. I may have used my 3rd gen lugs. Sorry for the confusion. I do know for a fact that 3rd gen lugs fit though.
  3. I used 4th gen nuts with mine but 3rd gen nuts work too. Oddly, I have never actually had 2nd gen wheels on my truck.
  4. I would start with EGT, BOOST and FUEL PRESSURE gauges. Then if you have sufficient fuel pressure, go with an edge comp or good set of injectors.
  5. I got her out on the hwy this last weekend and went about 300 miles at 80mph and it killed my mpg. I had the topper on and my average was 16.4. I did have a few miles on that tank pulling the trailer but it was mostly a clutch break in tank and now the fun begins. I stumbled on a smarty cheap so I hope it will improve mpg after the new wears off.
  6. Welcome to the Fam:woot:
  7. He has an unfair advantage, I saw the Idaho plates.
  8. I just put the other Valair DD in, rated for 650 hp and it holds great. Its grabby taking off in 2nd gear and its a pain getting in gear from a stop but it holds like no tomorrow.
  9. Not sure, probably 5/16 something thats snug over the bleeder.
  10. I get a clear jar and clear hose and put a little fluid in the bottom so you dont suck any air. Then just do one at a time starting with the rears. Pump till the fluid coming out is clear.
  11. Good luck, I need to do this too.
  12. I think I paid the dealer $75 for my flash but flashed my new ecm with a smarty.
  13. I printed off the TSB Mike has here and took it with me and then taugh the tech something new. Or better yet, find someone with a smarty and save yourself the hassle of dealing with dodge.
  14. Do you already have the raptor? It will come with 3/8 or 1/2 line that runs from the tank to the raptor, then to the filter housing. Big line kit just replaces the banjo bolts on the filter housing and the injector pump and the small line inbetween the two. Unless you already have the intank pump, you will not need a draw straw, sump or any tank mods. Here is the one I have. http://www.vulcanperformance.com/Universal-Big-Line-Filter-to-Injection-Pump-Kit-w-p/ffip59.htm
  15. My 03 would give a little extra "tick" when letting out on the clutch pedal to take off or it would just start dumping white smoke.
  16. When funds allow, I will be getting with Rogan for a harness.:thumbup2:Whether he likes it or not!
  17. The new premium they spray on last in the line-x process is supposed to last along time. I haven't had mine that long but when I do wash it, it looks as good as the day it was sprayed. The guy that sprayed mine showed me his truck that had been sprayed 4 years prior with line-x premium and it still looked new.
  18. Welcome to the fam. I started with a jeep but it didnt take long after I got my first Cummins to forget about that four letter word.
  19. Welcome to the fam.
  20. A buddy of mine installed a sump a few months ago and likes it. I don't know much about it though as I have never researched it because I never had 1/4 tank issues.
  21. I would think the probes are the same. Got the amp box hooked to key on positive and a good ground?
  22. I nearly sucked a rag up a few weeks ago. I was messing with the pcm or something and pulled my BHAF off and put it in the backseat of my car and put a rag over my turbo. I got busy with something else and forgot about finishing what I had started and went to start the truck. Luckily, I never plugged the pcm back in either or that rag would have been eatin by a hungry turbo.
  23. I believe they are 89" pounds.
  24. Dang Mike, you will never find a used turbo that clean. Sounds like its upgrade time, maybe an HE351:whistle:
