wha'ts missing in this picture.
So I guess the correct answer is the CP3, 6.7L head, and related emissions junk is missing? Or the rest of the 12 valve is missing.

Tires
IIRC those are just under 33" diameter. Still a big, heavy tire.

Turbo Upgrade HELP
I agree with @Me78569's statement. the 62/65/12 or 62/68/12 gated with a set of larger injectors. The quad will tune out the smoke and still leave plenty of power.

Those freeze plugs did look weird to me, but first things I noticed were the VE pump and the lack of a power steering pump. Ag motor?

Alright, lets see it, Who's doing Movember?
I haven't shaved in 4 years now, and I have no plans to shave in the foreseeable future. So Movember is a year round event for me

Valve Cover Gasket Leak
Usually people check both the block and head for levelness to avoid wasting another head gasket if either the head or the block is warped. And while the head is getting checked most people have the shop look at their exhaust valve seats and have a valve job done, in addition to checking the head for cracks. Since you're only at 73k, it's unlikely that you have these issues but is still possible.

Tires
I had a set of 265/70/r17's on my truck over summer. Yes there was less sidewall, but I did get better MPG's. I recently went to a set of 285/70/r17's and while I like the look, I immediately noticed a severe mpg drop. (First thing I did with the new tires was drive the 264 mile loop I had driven all summer with the 265's. Didn't even get halfway there before I knew mpgs were down.) Best i've gotten with the 285's so far is 17.6 and that was a lot of coasting down mountains. Here's the look of the 265's. I got used to the truck being a little lower.

Valve Cover Gasket Leak
Yeah I discovered that same trick after I had #5 intake rocker pull out of the head.... Good thing the threads are tapped further than the bolts thread into!

Valve Cover Gasket Leak
Did you clean off the rockers, bridges, and springs? Those are insanely clean... But yes, head gasket = gone.

Valve Cover Gasket Leak
How serious are you about wanting room to grow beyond 400 hp? That's really the determining factor on which turbo to get. If you want to stay around 400 hp, the s300g is your best bet, and you might consider looking into a 12cm housing to help with spooling. If you're interested in getting to 450-500 hp in the foreseeable future, then you want to look at the 62/65/12.

Valve Cover Gasket Leak
The s300 is a good choice for what you're looking for. It's a 57mm turbo, so 3 mm bigger than stock. If you want to have room to grow, a 62/65/12 is a good turbo that will support 500 hp, and since you have the v2 tuning, you can rewrite your tunes to help it spool closer to how your current hx35 spools.

Alright @Me78569, here's the data log. Sections that are highlighted are where the variables were right for the problem to occur, but I couldn't find a pattern. Hoping you can! iQuad-2017-11-07 Uphill lvl 6.csv

No, she kicked me to the curb a while ago for making fun of (both of!) her 6.uh oh's too much... Fish, however, will need to prove he won't destroy the 2nd gen before he's allowed in the car.

Can it be quiet and powerful?
?♀️ But to actually answer the question, I've heard of people doing two resonators on a CR truck due to the drone. I personally run a 4" straight through muffler and it's plenty quiet in the cab, but I'm never listening to the truck from outside so can't answer to how loud it actually is.

Can it be quiet and powerful?
Compounds make for a good muffler as well.
