  1. Little bit of black is fine, this bobcat is really black....... as I said ..... shiney edge is dust as it polishes the black off of the edge Get a clearer picture just to be sure but I wouldn't be overly worried
  2. I just took a turbo off of a Bobcat S185 to do exhaust manifold gaskets (horrendous job) and the vanes are black but black all over and no shiny edge
  3. Picture is very out of focus so can't really tell what is going on If it was sucking dirt/dust the leading edge of the vanes would be slightly marked or shiny where the dust impacts
  4. I never have anything other than my tablet in the cab with BT turned on
  5. No connection problems here and with a UK tablet that everyone said might be a problem, I use "connect to adrenaline" and it is every time with no fails, reconnects after truck has been off if the tablet is still on, in fact i've left the tablet on by mistake overnight and it reloads straight away when truck is started
  6. yes that's what you need, now the crimps like I said are special, look at the terminals in your picture, you'll see one end of both male and female have a green band , this is the crimp end, you remove insulation so that the wire is bottomed in the terminal and the insulation is just at the tip of the terminal, the crimps have 4 small anvils for want of a better word that move inwards to put 4 indentations in the crimp area, this keeps the terminal round so the wedge holds it, just do a search for Deutsch crimps. I replace any terminals that are bad with these, and don't forget they are reusable and sealed
  7. that is the part number for the black outer casing, Just search for Deutsch DT series 2 pin plug
  8. that looks to me very much like a Deutsch DT series 2 pin plug, can't really tell until it's unplugged, if there are green wedges down in the plug securing the terminals then it is, sometimes the wedges are orange if a copy Caterpillar do those so if you know anyone that runs Cat equipment or repairs Cat stuff they will have those OR a Cat dealer..... ours in the UK is Finning, Texas is Holt If it isn't a Deutsch just get a male and female chop old off and fit both as they really are everywhere, the deutsch terminals do need special crimps though, the link below is a copy as the wedges are orangehttps://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/automotive-connectors/1878741/?cm_mmc=UK-PLA-DS3A-_-google-_-CSS_UK_EN_Connectors_Whoop-_-Automotive+Connectors_Whoop+(2)-_-1878741&matchtype=&aud-827186183686:pla-333299766620&gclid=Cj0KCQjwo-aCBhC-ARIsAAkNQiuCzncJN0k9or7-LuQgOmXxso0criiw5IE37e6_3Dbp20COxRGzMjgaApr7EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds Here in the UK terminals are seperate, I buy them by the 100 and always the gold coated ones, they are coated with gold as it's a soft metal so when the plug is connected the male and female terminals make a better connection due to all the microscopic imperfections being smoothed out
  9. My truck is stock except for LP fuel system. stock towing tune as downloaded now set on LVL7 is more than enough, ( think there are 10 lvls) my truck is auto so In LU either 3rd or OD it just goes and the higher the load the more it pulls, I also find 3rd LU doesn't drop out so much now it will stay in LU longer and lower rpms, EGR might go to around a 1000f when towing and pulling hard and truck and trailer is at 12k lbs no smoke at all..... very happy with how it runs I did think when I was running it on LVL 3 that LU was slipping but quad trans slippage gauge said not, engine was bucking and now I'm running it on lvl 7 it doesn't buck. I'd guess a quad is the dogs with a manual trans
  10. I also don't see the point in building a tune now as it has all been done before many times over
  11. Thing is there is 2 sides to it, 1. You can if you want dive in and build tunes, this needs time to understand whats what and time to build a tune and test OR 2. Download a tune that is in the ballpark for your truck that someone else spent all the time messing with it load it and drive I'm in camp 2, I don't care if my truck might be able to do 300 more yards to the gallon or smoke tyres 200 rpm lower, what I do care about is my truck drives better, feels better and is nicer to drive, all with very minimal effort on my part. One the other hand someone in camp one may well have the time to tune to perfection and relish the task, I'll just spend $3 and download it later It really is as easy as you want it to be or as hard
  12. just done the maths and I just paid £1.29 a litre this works out at $6.77 for your gallon or $8.05 for our gallon
  13. I haven't got the time to mess with mine, found a towing tune on here for stock truck, that's what I drive on all the time, it was easy to download, I also have a DD tune but never use it as I can't be bothered to swap it out ( this takes mere seconds) but I start my truck and go to work. Not towing and an empty bed my truck on level 5 or 6 of my towing tune is way too much for most roads in the UK (we have corners, not blocks) and our roads are narrow so why do I need to do any further tuning and I've got 4 more levels to go, a trans rebuild and more time and I might think different Last time I looked cost was $599 ish
  14. I should really care about MPG as our fuel is now £1.25 to £1.39 a litre but in realitity I don't bother, I get much better MPG that you guys anyway as our gallon is 52 ounces bigger thing is our prices aren't 52 ounces higher My truck is stock as far as I know... auto too, I use a tune for towing most of the time towing or not and the truck is much better to drive, I've been using level 3 but recently went up to 4 and then 5 (kept it at 3 because of the trans) The difference in how the truck runs and drives is the main thing for me it is SO much better, I'm sure mpg is better but I haven't checked and probably never will, loaded and at work with my trailer on I'm around 10 to 12k pounds so diesel cost is what it is I'd say if the truck either was manual or had a built auto it would be perfect but manual 4x4's here are rocking horse ~~~~ and 10k + for a trans is silly
  15. That doesn't look like a dropped valve ..... way too little damage, If it had dropped a valve properly the top of piston would look like WW3, I'd say it's been over revved as those marks are just kiss marks. Or a sticking valve due to it getting hot Or someone made a right mess of doing the tappets and got one/some way too tight Or valve lash was that much a pushrod ended up on the edge of the rocker instead of in it's place Or someone rebuilt the timing gears and got it a tooth out Anything that reduced the piston to valve clearance by just enough for contact but not total destruction
  16. therory is if it's bio and produced now then the carbon has been captured recently so no adding to carbon actually as the plants took it out so equal, only adds when took out of the ground which was produced millions of years ago and stored Problem is if we go to bio oil vast areas are needed so defeats the object as forests are flattened which remove more carbon than anything on the planet Thing is and I'm probably going to get shot down for this....... meat production and animal farming is way up there too as in methane which is a much bigger greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide/monoxide etc but the west finds it easier to bash/tax/restrict the motorist rather than address farming..... there I said it
  17. McDonalds here use their recycled oil in their trucks, doubt it's a 100% bio as they probably don't produce enough waste cooking oil but yes older diesels can and do run on it, it's down to lubricity as to whether it's ok
  18. 6% sales tax AND only in Idaho wow thats low. That would be just a 2 letter umbrella for that ........... UK What really ticks my sheet is China has just had a damn good go at wiping out the human race and China and places like India polute on an unbelievable scale (the mask wearing before covid is the clue there) why do we continue to buy junk from these countries. and us dumb asses on a little tiny island of 66 million people want to lead the world in reducing emissions to zero yesterday, if I can get the next 5 years or so driving my truck (work and 5th wheel, this timescale may change depending on how **ssed off I get with the green brigade) I'm going 40's/50's Dodge Job Rated with a 440ci on propane Worst thing is around 2007 I imported a 55 Job Rated but sold it cos some fool had fitted a chevy 350, I did know this beforehand but just couldn't bring myself to keep it or drive it
  19. It's not EU terminology Mike it's UK. MOT is as you say Ministry of Transport, the vehicle inspections are carried out by authorized garages on behalf of the MOT and the test is actually called a MOT test, inspectors float around posing as customers with cars due a MOT to try and catch the garages out not keeping up standards, vehicles have to be on the ramps for the allotted time and the tester logs onto a computer to start the inspection and logs off when finished 45 minutes later, I've been getting all my MOT's done at the same place for 40 years and my mum worked there for 40 years too so MOT's there for me aren't as bad as they could be. VAT is as you say Value Added Tax, everything is taxed at 20% and as many times as it changes hands to end up with the final consumer, so lets say I buy a part from DAP for £100 and lets say the import duty is 5% for a total of £105, shipping is another £100 for a total of £205, I then pay £20% VAT on the total amount for a grand total of £246 . So I decide to sell this part to another business, this other business adds 25% markup which is £61.50 for a total of £307.50 PLUS VAT at 20% for a total of £369. Each business pays the VAT to the government on the profit so if a company is charged £20 VAT and then sells it for a sum which nets £30 VAT £10 goes to the government...... the name gives it away Value Added Tax so each business that "ADDS VALUE" to an item pays 20% of that added value as a tax to the government so really the only guy that actually pays 20% vat is the end little guy Most everything is 20% Vat except most food, childrens cloths, books, household energy Car tax is totally different and Called VED Vehicle Excise Duty. So you buy a car for say £40k 20% vat makes that £48k then lets say it's on the big polluter list (5.0 Mustang or Range Rover or whatever) VED adds another £2.5k. Then go fill it with fuel and 0.56Pence per litre cost of fuel is fuel duty and goes straight to the government TAX TAX TAX and more TAX but our infastructure is pretty good on the back of it
  20. It's not just fuel that's going to skyrocket, here in the UK there is talk of a pay per mile tax to replace our road tax, road tax here is calculated on age and emmissions this goes back to around 2001/2002 to the present, everything before 2001 is taxed at a flat £270 per year so my truck is £270, 2002 ram is more, 2020 ram is eyewatering at £2500 ish for the first 5 years, this is a sliding (upwards) scale depending on age/engine size/emmissions, forgot to add anything over 40 years old is tax and mot free, and the lowest tax is zero for the EV's My wifes Nissan Quashquai which is 3 years old later this year is £155 per year and engine size is 1200cc, had it from new and that's what it has been every year.... BTW it's petrol not diesel There is talk of a pay per mile and the figure being suggested is 0.75p per mile which for average mileage of 10k is £7500 We already have clean air zones in certain cities where depending on the vehicle you have to pay to enter.... London was the first, this doesn't bother me one bit as me and cities don't mix, we also have toll roads which are pay to use, these are usually empty, me I'd drive 50 mile on country roads rather than paying If I didn't use my truck for work and a 5th wheel it would be gone and I'd be driving a 40's or 50's Dodge truck tax and MOT free
  21. The only civil disobedience here is students and climate change activists marching cos it ain't happening fast enough, here we have next to no charge points and if there were the electrical infastructure is not up to it. Here they want you to plug into your house when you can so the grid can then use the power in YOUR batteries to power other homes I'm just glad I'm old enough not to give a sh~~ I'd hate to be into cars and aged 30 as that door will be firmly shut in the next few years
  22. Here every vehicle is inspected and emissions tested every year, HGV is inspected every 6 weeks this is 7.5ton and over, Police can and do pull vehicles and inspect. On our MOT inspection the slightest play in a ball joint is a fail, slight corrosion on a brake pipe, etc etc. Emissions is strict for newer vehicles buy not bad for older stuff AT THE MOMENT
  23. Our emissions in the uk are stricter than yours ( not sure about cali) Have to have the vehicles inspected every year (MOT) anyway I don't drive often with a screen because of theiving toerags, I just took it and left it on 3 didn't just pass the guy jokingly asked if it was running it was that clean, he said it was cleaner than most . They also are not so familiar with how the truck is put together and he never notices the quad
  24. Now that's a little gold nugget of information
  25. And I had one crack right under drivers floor inside a chassis clamp
