Insulating Heater Hoses?
I'm going to try adding some insulation there as long as it won't melt on the manifold. I could cover the pipe insulation with aluminum reflective tape as well.

Yes @wil440, there ought to be a course on getting old. I kept going to the doc with new ailments, not knowing these things are normal when aging. Like a switch getting pulled it happens and you don't want to admit it nor lose your abilities. I'm still working since I like being wanted and it helps to stay strong. Fun to make changes for others (nothing like years of experience) but, the normal ailments taught me to work less and enjoy doing my own stuff for a change.

Anyone ever cover your heater hoses with pipe insulation? Might be some benefit there I really like Tractorman's fire proof engine blanket Very high quality.

Big Bad Blizzard on Its' Way...
Isn't it like a wood stove that is partway in the fireplace but, sticks out enough for added heat like a free standing wood stove? It blocks off the heat loss, to some extent, going up the chimney? I have only had a glance at them a couple times. My experience is only with 3 places I have owned with wood stoves in which I installed all. Another option is the glass door front allowing the fireplace look. Why not extend the brick or stone hearth to allow a free standing wood stove to stand out front of a blocked off chimney? That way its up higher, easier to see easier to load! I always have to get down on my knees to get it going or load mine on the floor. Took till 71 before my knees started acting up so can't complain but, blocking off the fireplace using it for the flue has everyone tolling me was the best thing they ever did for heat. That's of course those that did it.

Mine wouldn't run till I turned the door lock, with the key, twice each time I wanted to start. In my case just it would start for a second then shut down like it supposed to when the alarm sets off. Finally took off the door panel and found if I pulled the alarm wire on the end of the lock cylinder toward the direction of the door hinges everything worked perfect. I set one or two zip ties to keep it gently pulled that direction and everything has been fine. I think you have a relay out or block fuse out that you cannot see burned until you use a magnifying glass to see it thru the little window. best to test with a volt meter for continuity. Something like the alarm may have shut it down and stayed that way, you know, like the alarm shut the engine down but in your case has stayed shut off with an open circuit/ fuse or relay. When the alarm is triggered the horn should set off and you can keep starting the engine again but, always shuts down after a second. I' am convinced you will find the problem. Sometimes it takes the persistence of a tax man.

Nick you could do a wood stove insert to the fireplace. Stops all the warm air from escaping up the chimney due to the build in kit that goes with it and when the brick gets warm, stays warm for a long time.

Big Bad Blizzard on Its' Way...
Is everyone ready? Out west where we do not get so cold due to influence from the Pacific Ocean, we are supposed to get some snow with a bigger threat of an ice storm. Two years ago we had one knocked out the power for ten days. This time right around Christmas is when they saying it will show, I have two generators. I need to fill used laundry soap bottles with water, fill up the RV and de winterize and get more fuel for the generators, I'll be set. You folks in the Midwest, upper plains supposed to get hammered as well as the East coast.

Hey fellow travelin' campers...
Yeah, it's weird. Like there's a huge conglomerate devised to monitor us. Sometimes like my computer controlled by something else, watching what I search for. I do not like it and may go toward becoming completely disconnected. Which I already am disconnected in many ways, LOL, just ask MoparMan he knows.

Wood Heat
Update; I rake up all the Oak sawdust and wood chips from the woodshed floor and from where I was cutting. I filled around 30 paper grocery bags and stack them up for later when I need to start a fire quick, I light the grocery bag and works most of the time to get a fire started. Man... oak wood chips and bark strips burn HOT!

Wood Heat
Watch the door hinges some have too thin of a gauge of steel holding the pins so the door gets out of wack. Thick and beefy steel stoves holds more heat and lasts a long time. If you ever have to replace the glass do not listen to glass shops just go to a place that sells ceramic glass. That is the correct type even for oven doors (not safety glass). It can be cut while you wait, just bring the old pieces and they can match it perfectly even ones with a curve top.

Wood Heat
I know it's colder up there and is a lot of wood each week. You probably find much of it doesn't have to be split cause they're smaller trees ?
