  1. If you buy the engine you have to guarantee it. If he buys it and something isn't right you are off the hook .
  2. Mike if you could, please put a magnet to it and tell me about the amount of attraction. Mine has little to no attraction if any. been on my continually used Stove for 22 years and no deterioration whatsoever. What are those orange red pock marks up near the top? look like some kind of deterioration. Mine has nothing to indicate it's thinning/ flaking from the inside etc. I am pretty sure that Creosote is highly corrosive and that's what caused yours to go thin and flake away inside if not almost pure Stainless steel.
  3. My steel pipe rotted out every year. Was a bad experience. I surmised that the wood had a lot of acid, burning mostly Douglas Fir. Went to buy stainless steel and found a lessor brand, I think Simpson, claimed to be stainless but in fact was not according to the magnet. Went to a well known professional Solid fuels distributor and got Stainless that did not magnetize at all. I was lucky to get it. We have had deliberate chimney fires to clean it out and no trouble for many years. Can see pipe all the way to the ceiling for twenty feet before it goes thru the ceiling and roof. So get the good stuff. cannot remember the manufacturer but it's called 'chimney liner' masons use going up the chimney which I used for stove pipe. So hard to cut it's a bearcat to go thru it. Nothing soft about it. All these years and no sign of deterioration. You must of had Simpson brand, Mike.
  4. I used metal black matt chimney and every year it kept burning thru. Went to Stainless 6 inch and it's still good after 22 years. Have to bring a magnet before you buy and test for the better stainless it will not attract much at all.
  5. I'm thinking you already know this and know nothing of the circumstances but, can you drill and tap the plug and make a puller with a bolt?
  6. Just a thought worth half of a cent because I have never pulled and replaced any engine head but, on my 01 when purchased at 190,000 miles the in tank screens were 2/3 clogged. Could it be that your getting some fuel, just enough to think it's okay but, not enough to keep the truck running?? I also wonder about a rare problem, I've heard, of a clogged tank vent and what confusing results could be if both these conditions existed together. Just a shot in the dark.
  7. If you are interested just put up a name of a place you like so we can look it up, see if we get a consensus on what place is best for everyone. Either spring or fall, I like anywhere that's in the forest on a lake, also dry camping, we'll have a good time. So far we have Phillips Lake by Tractorman Somewhere in Eastern Cascade Mountains of Washington by Hutch24v Courtright by Threadzy (pretty far for those in the Northwest) I'm suggesting somewhere in the Strawberry Mountains in Eastern Oregon with a lake, I have never been there, only heard it's good.
  8. I would like to see a tornado some day. I hope you stay safe Bud. Having another cup of coffee this evening as I have to go out and winterize my truck camper and get the foundation vents closed. I'll do the vents by flashlite since it's now dark as it was 25 degrees last night. A bit early for those kind of temps. We might be in for a good winter... knock on wood!
  9. @Mopar1973Man, is it a bit early this year? I'm hoping we have a real good winter and you get lots of rest Mike!
  10. I heard the east side of Mt. Rainier is really good. I have a truck camper also which I still like.
  11. Hope you get it squared away soon.
  12. This election going to be real important, we need to get back on track.
  13. I'm all in for camping closer to home. So is @Tractorman, he says we should try Phillips Lake. @IBMobile says he may start going further too. I am liking places not so commercialized.
  14. @Doubletrouble, Those old houses, in the era of silver coins are good to metal detect around. On the older homes the crawlspace was sometimes used as the bank since it was too far on horseback. @weissguy01, glad to hear from you and hope your new place works out real good. We been like sticks in the mud for 26 yrs. Watched a cedar tree seedling go from a foot high to over 50/60 feet. Amazing! @Threadzy, mine are in reliable mode, except @Tractorman had to go and show me some things he did to his truck giving me the virus. Cure is to start with Geno's garage for the upgraded heavier dash cover, nicest one ever. I think that's the one anyhow. other mods are his engine blanket, coolest set up for safety on turn signals and some others it's hard not to think about.
  15. Thanks everyone, it's good to hear from you. Want you to know everyone at Costco last Sunday was so upbeat, everyone was happy and so polite. I was a darn nice evening. I think everyone is pleased that our weather finally came back after such a long hot record breaking summer. It been raining for days, raining hard and on Saturday it snowed harder than I've ever seen around here. The earliest ever in my years was Thanksgiving in 1978. This time was Nov. 6th, day before yesterday. Snowed so hard it was great since only 2/3 weeks ago it was close to another record breaker at almost 90 in mid October. What a change. Hope you recover well IBMobile, your truck too I might add. Nice interior paint job MoparMan. @Threadzy, I lucked out and got 1.5 cord of well seasoned oak delivered for 150. Good deal for an old guy, it burns much hotter than the usual Douglas Fir.
  16. Can you guys find time to have coffee and post what's going on?! I am certain many of us would like to hear. It's been so slow around here it's like the forum for Hermits living in cave. I just got done putting on a new roof on my house, building a 100 K deck and another job building a new stairway down to a built in pool. In between I went on a camping trip to meet IBMobile and Tractorman. Had a good time except for the dumb guy who shot 5/6 rounds in the campground and killed a Cub and may have injured the mother at 12:20 am. I've been trying to find a news article on that cause the guy turned himself in but, lied about the details of the killing. Anyhow what's going on these days?
  17. That's funny cool Pilothouse, I like that. Keep up the good work I know you'll sell it to me because I'm going to make an offer you can't refuse. lol!
  18. I think Common Sense taught a few who are still around the old school but, the list seems to be getting shorter.
  19. I am looking for others interested in some Oregon camping. Me and @Tractorman are planning another trip next year somewhere in Eastern Oregon. I am winding down going so far south to Mono Village by going just once a year instead. It is getting expensive, even more unpleasant due to dangerous drivers, so it's time for me to stay closer to home and cut back. Anyone feel they want to join in are more than welcome. Usually everyone does what they want each day and then about 3 or 4 o'clock we start to gather around the campfire. Always fun.
  20. If I was hiring any of the young folks these days, I would look for those that went to private schools. My Daughter who got her masters and Doctorate from a private University says she has a noticeable advantage over other applicants for any particular job interview. One company said we have over 300 applicants, asked which college she went to to verify that she was indeed from George Fox U and the company said okay we are done looking, we don't want to talk to anyone else, you have the job. Just like that! She was afraid to go because of the expense and she does have a big college loan but, her income also affords a nice living on only one job. Note.. It took 2 or 3 tries to get in after going to public schools but, she made it and I'm so proud of her. Each time I visited the campus there wasn't a speck of garbage and every time I walked up to open a door the students would open it or hold it open for me. Everyone spoke polite, like human beings, never a swear word and everyone was clean. cut nothing weird. It was like a breath of fresh air very pleasant ea. time I visited there.
  21. Good that we have a choice, thanks Mike. Would pics of my Black second gen sport help? Loved seeing my truck on here for a time. That was nice.
  22. I have decided I like the old theme better Mike, after going back and seeing the old this morning. It's easier on eyes and feels normal, like not hiding in a dark closet LOL!
  23. I had a great trip and time with IBMobile and his grandson Ethan who is such a well mannered, new graduate from high school. It was a pleasure to go hiking and metal detecting with him, while IBMobile... all he wants to do is go fishing and drink coffee. LOL! Anyhow, after about a week there I lit out a couple days early to meet Tractorman at a nice uncrowded quiet campground in NE Cali. It was cool getting a ride in his truck in the morning going for breakfast the 7 miles down the mountains into town. I tell ya, he's done some interest mods that many haven't heard about and need to see. Anyway, this strictly cattle ranching town had this very nice cafe that offered pure enjoyment. We sat by a nice wood stove (it was cold that morning), was uncrowded, nicely done cowboy style cafe. Everyone in that place was nice and spoke like a real human being. We had a surprisingly great start to our visit in that small town. Later we went on an interesting hike that offered some great views and had beer around a nice fire when we got back. Later we talked we mostly talked about fluid pressure related to the VP44 . It was interesting and because of his background on fluid pressure/ volume, has prompted me to begin to think a bit differently about our set ups and what the VP44 really needs... might be a touchy subject with some but, was a great discussion. After two cold nights we where ready to head home and meet up next year after having such a fun camping visit.
  24. Just got back from a 2 week trip on my new coolant and a Murray Ultra Thermostat. It cost more and looked different but the person at the O'Reilly's counter told me, well, here is a discount for you so you just try it out. Bring it back for a refund if you don't like it. Every time I looked at the temp gauge it was a steady 190 or so. I guess well enough then. I didn't like the name 'Murray' because Murry Bicycles when I was a kid was a pain in the rear bike to own but, I think it's a different company and spelled different too.
  25. Amazing! I had a bud go for his first contractors truck. Said he was looking for a second gen Cummins. He is sayin my truck is worth 30, K. Wow! I paid half that 3 yrs ago. Crazy world!
