  1. Someone told me if your phone is only turned on and not making a call that google can listen in on what you and your family are talking about with just your phone in the same room. I doubt this rumor but, maybe shouldn't put it past them... I just don't know BTW, Mr. Nelson is in charge of operation 'Take A Puff' down at the 'Federal Bureau of Idleness'.
  2. Never realized how good well seasoned oak firewood is. I put in two small pieces of heavy dense oak and they burned on slow for almost 8 hours. Outside temps are were in the mid 30's. I'm talking small pieces. I scored because I got a cord of old oak firewood for 140.00, had been seasoning for a very very long time. The seller never needed it and because it's so well seasoned I can damper down the intake very low and still not get creosote build up. I never experienced using such old seasoned hardwood like that. Only bad thing was much it was cut too long, so had to cut 4 inches off the ends to fit in the stove so the two pieces were about that size together for almost 8 hours in the stove.
  3. We need more stories like this...Mike is so cool he's reducing global warming
  4. That's cool thing you did and you definitly have full bragging rights on this one. I am on the board here, so I have authority to say so!
  5. Can we see a picture of your shop and house? @IBMobile might have one...
  6. Mine in Oregon was a steady $5.61 for months, now it,s $5.49. I am trying to do my part by not buying as much these days, figured out some ways to use less consumables which means less fuel consumption and get a handle on retirement.
  7. I do think they can hear you talking to other people or family when your phone is turned on and nearby. I think that is true to a point that it picks up certain key words for targeting advertisements. Not sure but, think I have seen examples anyway. BTW, I found the campground map although not very detailed, is a map. trying to see if the group sites are by the lake or what. If anyone has or knows of a better place, would like to hear about it.
  8. I am wondering when you do a specific search on the net, why I am suddenly getting everything only related to what I've asked for but, nothing of what I asked for?! It's weird Google started this months ago so I went on Firefox and everything was okay. But now they started the same thing with everything related. I'm asking it to bring up a simple map of Magone Lake, campground in Eastern Oregon for camping this spring.
  9. She may be an old girl but, she'll out do any other truck around as far as durability, reliability and tallied final expenses keeping her going.
  10. @Andyba20, I don't think they are perpetuating the big lie on purpose Andy. We, like everyone else likes to think these companies are telling us the truth, is all it is.
  11. Looks Good So when you want to open a section you unzip and tuck below the bumper?
  12. Must be dang cold up there!
  13. Bring your hot dog dispenser, didn't you say it loads 50? Some may want to stay longer than 3 nights. Let me know what you think is good number.
  14. Thank you Hutch24v. It will be fun to meet new faces and everyone else again too. I think Magone lake will be a good option for everyone. There is one disappointment however with IBMobile wanting to show but, is reluctant with Magone Lake so far East from his final destination in Seattle. He is still unsure about doing any long trips with his 5th wheel and with fuel prices on everyone's mind these days. Dan, if I pay for the group sight it should save about a tank of fuel. Also a bit farther east will save not seeing the crowds from Portland. Generally speaking is better camping out that way.
  15. Is there any thoughts from the members about helping this guy? I will kick in a hundred since he's got kids and already over worked. We did this about 2 years ago and helped a member's sister that was really in need, honest hard working and all that. I think it's time we do it again. Anyone? Thoughts?
  16. Michael Nelson is the same way, always informative and whenever a problem arises with one of my trucks he is always spot on with a solution. I pay him for his time on the phone by making a donation to help with his website cost. Ya know these repair shops will not often help you like that and if they do, seem to have a loose nut or two.
  17. one time they sent an oil pan drain plug that had a problem and talked with them at length about. They were so good about it. It was amazing and said I hope you send me something else not working so I can have the pleasure of talking again.
  18. I like those people down there... they talk our language down there, very polite!
  19. we are supposed to get snow in the next couple days but, in our area very hard to predict because of the marine influence. When we do get snow I stay home because of the other drivers who do not know what they are doing.
  20. I'm doing an experiment on the work truck. I'm using Timken on the left side and on the right I'm using an odd brand that O'Reilly's sells. Both changed out the same time I hope we have to wait a long time for the results even though I'm not greasing them. I saved the boxes they came in so I would know the brands. Where is DieselFuture?
  21. Video doesn't work for me. Why does anyone want to get the metal out of a battery like that? Is it toxic to breath or handle it?
  22. Portland, oregon already has burn bans for wood burning stoves and fireplaces. Usually during an atmospheric inversion layer when the air is stagnant. By the time the particles get across the state on windy or air movement days it falls as nutrients for forests and grasslands I am noticing More and More EV's on the road lately. One was towing an empty trailer along side me. I guess he was thinking about saving the range or amp hours cause he let me get ahead and get over since I had to turn left a ways up. Good if concern over range causes EV'rs to drive nice and let you in. I won't be buying one soon as it's cheaper to stay with what we have and I like the fact that the elderly can hear us coming when they are out walking. There are quit a few old folks walking our rural end roads around here in the morning. So the noise is good.
  23. We restored and got going again the original 1930's water wheel that powered the first three cabins built in Gov't Camp. It was an amazing day. The following spring we poured footings for the reduction gear and generator and got it hooked up to the charger and battery bank. It was a fun job with locals coming around to see it.
  24. Laws of Thermodynamics say that the most efficient energy system will always loose at least 10% of the energy when converting from one type to another. Yes @Andyba20, we are going to see many more masks over the truth coming our way. Designs and paradigms that will even confuse the best of us. I learned to think for myself and trust nothing especially from MSN. Those guys are cherry pickers with tall ladders and big side sacks. I got clients with money to afford most things, that don't want building permits. Willing to chance it because of the mountain of literal horse $hit and stupid price. Building dept.... best I can estimate are charging a thousand an hour for their services. You wouldn't believe the garbage work I've seen that was inspected and passed. It total masking/ shellacking however you like.
