  1. Mine was doing that and turned out to be the cab lights. Water was going on the head liner and then running down the windshield pillar an onto the floor. I went and bought some small O rings to fit around the screw heads and it stopped. I'm in 'Wetstern' Oregon too
  2. You can make your own lugs any size you like by using copper tubing / copper pipe. If smaller gauge I insert a 1/4 inch drive ratchet extension in one end of 1/4 or 3/8ths inch tubing and flatten the other end of the tubing in a vice. Drill hole any stud size in flattened end. Advantage is I can make a nice beefy lug and wire crimp that really holds the copper wire. I also know that I have good copper that way and not something don't know about. Larger needed lugs I go to half inch copper pipe with half inch extension or whatever steel round stock fits in the end when flattening in the vice. I get the copper pipe from my plumber who leaves the waste laying around on my jobs.
  3. More trucks on road Huh... without the prefilter huh! lol, Well just goes to show that them guys don't read diesel books and love to trust the dealers for service and advice. I'm joking around here with some strong opinion. Mostly coming from some experience and some reading of the books I have about diesel engine maintenance. You know two filters keeps the flow going better, thereby returning more fuel, which filters and recirculates the fuel several times before being burned. The tank stays cleaner and is insurance against the day when you might get a bad batch of fuel. At 190,000 miles I bought this 01, like said before, the tank had a build up of debri because when remoding to the half inch draw straw I found the intank screens partly clogged and in two weeks I had to change a brand new Racor W/S filter all from dirt build up in the tank I stirred up by the new fuel system. Truck seemed to come alive loves the easy flow. ME Jacob in Michigan
  4. Jacob I disagree here bud, cause an added prefilter helps protect the lift pump and works in conjunction with factory filter to not be overwhelmed by doing all the work. Especially if running back roads where diesel is stored for extended periods. As soon as I changed out my fuel system to everything 1/2'' and got rid of the factory L/P with an AD150, within two weeks I had to change out the big prefilter I added. It showed me how the factory flow rates of return fuel were so lax that fuel was not getting polished, allowing dirt/ sediment to build in the tank for 190,000 miles of its factory stock setup.
  5. That is a ground I have overlooked on both trucks. Thanks to you both. Just want to say on my 02, I figured a way to attach about 6 inches of copper pipe to the factory heat sink. This gives a greater escape for the hea and works pretty wellt, but the relays are best solution.
  6. So if that ground is not clean the headlights are dimmed down, but would that also contribute to the headlight switch getting hot? I ask cause it's amazing how hot it gets near the switch and I know the relay set up is the way to go for that.
  7. Excellent information Pepsi, thank you
  8. Isn't there anyone that might be building an aftermarket ECM? Is there a problem stemming from the fact that information required to build one, is strictly proprietary information?
  9. I get p 0500 whenever I spin the tires in gravel. I think its a code you can ignore anyway.
  10. That is interesting as I'm getting hunting in the 2-3 shift if I'm just feathering the go pedal. So must be a mechanical hunting. Only happens going up a hill that I'm not accelerating just float the pedal letting and let the grade slow rpms.
  11. I've been studying crashes that come up on the news with pictures and I would say almost always the littler vehicle ends up being the badly damaged with life threatening injuries, often dead on scene or later died. Larger vehicle, the occupants often walk away with minor injuries. They almost always lived with non life threatening injuries
  12. Yep when IBMobile put mine in I was so happy with it. still love it, using it when hauling my camper. Now I would like one in my company work truck, the 2001, cause I miss it
  13. Wife comes out Saturday morning sees me under the hood and says,"Oh what's wrong with it this time?' I say nothing out of the ordinary it's normal things wrong.
  14. I used to run the same long grade hill every morning. My old 12 valve first gen truck would tell me when I forgot the 2 stroke oil with a noticeable difference in power running that hill.
  15. I have ball valves in lines to hold prime while changing filters. One by the tank to stop fuel from draining out of the tank and another in front of the big filter and lift pump so won't drain back on me when changing lift pump or the big filter. I just have to fill the bowl on either filter and fire right up.
  16. I'm usually wrong about suggestions, but on one of my two second gens, both nice trucks, I found a faulty ground thru the alternator bracket and alternator does not have a wired ground So I added wired grounds from alternator housing to neg. battery on both trucks. I have no clues if it has helped but, will say on the truck I removed the grey connectors and soldered them back together had a slight shifting problem before has never come back. Now the other truck is showing the same shifting problem and still has the grey connectors well you know where those connectors is going......... BTW, I also added a big gauge wire ground from PCM to the firewall instead of pea unie factory wire. lol
  17. What some do is make it tough to strike a solid agreement cause they want to turn it into an auction by waiting for another already interested party to look at it and make an offer, or that another better offer is trying to put together the money so he'll make you wait.
  18. Best to find a vented cap so it has the one way check valve built in for safety. My redneck way of drilling the cap is you only drill a 1/8 inch hole thru the first layer on the underside of the cap. Sort of between the 'wagon wheel' spokes profile on the underside. Not all the way thru the cap Mike That way the outer shell/, top of the cap protects from water. Problem is no safety check ball in a roll over wreck. finding a cap that has it's own one way vent, you'll need to go to auto parts and keep trying till you find one that fits. I got lucky and found mine laying on the ground at a filling station, so I don't have a part number. Drive safe and glad we helped. It was the first time I ever got something right around here lol. BTW, I never poked around inside the factory vent when I had about 40,000 original miles, topped off the tank completely full and the vent was squirting out 1/4 inch stream of fuel right after fill up. had to clamp with a piece of hose and bolt stuck in the end. I said so much for trusting those things, but who knows if or what PO did to it. Never want to contradict Michael Nelson around here. He is the best of folks you'll ever meet so I'm just sayin what happened in my experience is all.
  19. I don't rely on the factory vent. It might damage the flapper poking around in there and then fuel squirts out whenever you top it off. I like a vented cap or make your own hole in the cap.
  20. Have you changed filters including air filter? See if your turbo spins smooth, no excessive play. Possible clogged tank vent, see if she runs better with the cap loose. 'Im curious... what size fuel lines are you running?
  21. Wait a minute now......isn't it too early yet? BTW, I know not to go near your truck, I heard what happened to the last guy. All he was carrying was a couple washers.
  22. That's too many people gone from such a nice area with a strong sense of community, it's hard to believe. That many structures too. We've never had so many fires up and down the west like this year, but with so many homes lost it's incomprehensible.
  23. We just had a tornado touch down just south of us maybe 12 miles away or so I love weather. flipped a few private planes that broke from their anchoring and lifted some roof panels is all.
  24. Cool one Mike but, with me you never know... You better bolt it down real good to that railing. We got steady rain and the power trying to go out right now
  25. Out here we have a lot of floating homes along the rivers. They frame the floors using long logs or timbers with floor joist on top. They place floating blocks of large foam or bead board in between the timbers. You still need a good anchorage point for winds and current. Then again probably not much news to you. I hope you guys are okay in every way along with your neighbors. I think natural disasters are on the increase. We out west seeing fires in number like never before. Don't forget to pray everyone........ days of sincere prayer go surprisingly better than those when I obsess over Cummins trucks or something else all day. Hammer, why do you have a tie down strap around and over the barn roof? Is that to keep waters from forcing it off the concrete?
