  1. Got home from my annual snow goose hunting trip about 10:00PM last night. Hunting was "fair" at best................15 birds on Sat. and 9 on Sun.Mighty Whitey got 19.3mpg going down. Left with 130 all towing miles on the tank also. Filled up in Sikeston, MO when we got there on Fri. We went to and fro to our hunting area twice (Sat. an Sun.) and then drove home. That tank got me 19.5mpg. Hand calculated. Pretty happy with those numbers.............hard cross winds both going down and coming home. Average speed was about 68-70mph and the one way distance for the trip is about 450 miles.Just under 183,000 on Mighty Whitey now.
  2. Is it 4x4 and totally stock???If so, there will only be one. It's a needle grease fitting on the double cardan joint on the front drive shaft. Sealed u-joints, axle u-joints, ball joints and tie-rod endsIf it's a 2wd and totally stock, there will be no grease zirks anywhere. All sealed.
  3. I love to hunt.........mainly bird hunting now, both waterfowl and upland.............fishing when I can.............training my dogs: for the hunting above..................and gathering firewood now since I'm heating more with wood.Gathering firewood replaced drinking beer; so now drinking beer is done while fishing and after the above other stuff!!!!!
  4. Those air dams get any lower, they'll be snow plows!!!
  5. Who was Thomas Jefferson ? This is amazing. There are two parts. Be sure to read the 2nd part. Thomas Jefferson was a very remarkable man who started learning very early in life and never stopped. At 5, began studying under his cousin's tutor. At 9, studied Latin, Greek and French. At 14, studied classical literature and additional languages. At 16, entered the College of William and Mary. At 19, studied Law for 5 years starting under George Wythe. At 23, started his own law practice. At 25, was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses. At 31, wrote the widely circulated "Summary View of the Rights of British America ? And retired from his law practice. At 32, was a Delegate to the Second Continental Congress. At 33, wrote the Declaration of Independence . At 33, took three years to revise Virginia 's legal code and wrote a Public Education bill and a statute for Religious Freedom. At 36, was elected the second Governor of Virginia succeeding Patrick Henry. At 40, served in Congress for two years. At 41, was the American minister to France and negotiated commercial treaties with European nations along with Ben Franklin and John Adams. At 46, served as the first Secretary of State under George Washington. At 53, served as Vice President and was elected president of the American Philosophical Society. At 55, drafted the Kentucky Resolutions and became the active head of Republican Party. At 57, was elected the third president of the United States . At 60, obtained the Louisiana Purchase doubling the nation's size. At 61, was elected to a second term as President. At 65, retired to Monticello . At 80, helped President Monroe shape the Monroe Doctrine. At 81, almost single-handedly created the University of Virginia and served as its first president. At 83, died on the 50th anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence along with John Adams. Thomas Jefferson knew because he himself studied the previous failed attempts at government. He understood actual history, the nature of God, his laws and the nature of man. That happens to be way more than what most understand today. Jefferson really knew his stuff. A voice from the past to lead us in the future: John F. Kennedy held a dinner in the white House for a group of the brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement: "This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to gather at one time in the White House with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone." "When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe ." -- Thomas Jefferson "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." -- Thomas Jefferson "It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world." -- Thomas Jefferson "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." -- Thomas Jefferson "My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government." -- Thomas Jefferson "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." -- Thomas Jefferson "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." -- Thomas Jefferson "To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical." -- Thomas Jefferson Thomas Jefferson said in 1802: "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property - until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."An e-mail I received today. Very impressive.
  6. Do y'all use the Simple Green or the Zep full strength, or diluted when you spray it on the engine???
  7. http-~~-//youtu.be/EUzMPlQb2G4
  8. You's guy's with 16 inchers are so lucky. Talking tires here also guys!!!!! I wish I could find some "pizza cutter" tires in 17"...............they don't exist though. I'd love a LT255/80 17E or a LT245/85 17E in an AT style tire. - - - Updated - - - Fishing for some "real" info here Russ.................the local media here is making this out to be the "storm of the century"...............which of course happened a couple years ago. So, what gives??? Is is really that bad??
  9. Thanks Guys!! My SWAG has been answered!!!!
  10. If'n you're going with "pizza cutters".........you'll have to go with load range "E" in 16 inchers to give you the proper weight rating for your Cummins.
  11. Earth to Russ..............Come in Russ...................How are conditions up there??? Stay safe.
  12. Never researched this, so I'm taking a SWAG here.......................Is there room under the hood to put a mechanical compressor under there that's belt driven with a clutch like your AC compressor???? That would be the route I'd go were I looking to do this. Just saying.
  13. John,Don't know if you've ever driven a 2nd gen or not.................but when I had my '99 the throttle was quicker in response. Like dialing up the torque management on the Smarty in our 3rd gens. You know how there's a slight delay as RP builds.Like with my trailer and wet roads...........the wheel spin doesn't happen "right now"...........it's slightly delayed and then goes; usually as RP builds!!
  14. Wish more Americans thought like this man. Absolutely brilliant IMHO!!
  15. Well worth the couple minutes!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=MZ35SOU9HTM
  16. The storm that is gonna get Russ is only 1/2 of a Low that just dumped 12" of snow at my place yesterday. Wet and heavy snow also!!!The Low that got me, is gonna merge with another moving up along the East coast. Perfect Noreaster scenario.Hope you're prepared Russ.................Food, water, gas for generator, etc.
  17. I can break the tires loose on mine real easy on wet roads with my work trailer in tow rowing thru the gears!!
  18. Do y'all use any type of grease/oil/dirt cutting agent before spraying??? Spray it on, let it set a while, and then hose off..........is what I mean.
  19. I'm on my 4th set of axle U-joints. The latest set was installed when we did the SpynTec hub conversion. The OEM's and the next two sets all failed within a few months of each other and at similar miles. I think part of the problem on my truck with axle U-joints is that I live in the "rust belt" where salt is over used on the roads in the winter to melt the snow. Another problem is that 3rd gens turn tighter than 1st and 2nd gens and tight turns and u-joints don't mix. 3rd gens are near the max weight rating for the axle which probably stresses other parts also. I also do a lot of low speed trailer backing/maneuvering. You'll probably be fine out there with sealed ones.
  20. Can you rent or "fab up" the ball joint press for the job?? $90.00 each sounds way high for axle U-joints. IIRC, mine were just over half that price. Mine are Precision...........made by Moog though.
  21. Mom,Spud my 9 year old Lab used to try to do stuff like that. Dee my 2.5 year old thinks this is the funnest thing................. after I let all of them out of the run, she grabs a split out of the firewood box on my deck!! She then tears around the yard with it...........teasing my 9 months old.........because Peg (9 month old) can't catch here!!! Spud likes to lift his leg on my wood piles also!!!
  22. That is correct. There is a cable, a plug and 3 mounting screws IIRC. Didn't see any way to adjust it when I replaced it.
  23. When it's cold and I'm going to work, I only let my truck idle for as long as it takes to back out of my garage, hitch up my work trailer, close the garage door................then I'm heading down the road. Usually less than 5 minutes.
  24. My truck has an APPS, and it's under the drivers side battery tray. I've replaced it once and didn't do any calibration at all on it. In the manual that I have, it's also called an APPS............under the battery tray. I was under the impression that the "under the pedal" APPS was the same as the "under battery APPS..........but I guess not. My truck is an '04.5...............there must've been a "change over" period in there somewhere. No calibration regards.
  25. Hahahahahaha!!!! I can take it. But my post was in all honesty. The APPS in the bell shaped housing in front of the intake horn can and often do require adjustment. Haven't found anything yet that says the "under battery tray APPS" or the "in cab under throttle APPS" require adjustment. My research says they calibrate upon each start up. So I am correct. I think!!?? Do a search................anytime "automatic" should be used, I use "automagic"!!!!
