My fellow wood burners!
I think I May have figured out my problem. Before buying the house, we had An inspector and engineer look at the house. The engineer said it was one of the best manufactured home he's ever seen. Especially insulation. He said he was impressed with the r value and the snow load rating. It doesn't have an attic space. It's a triple wide though and I'm thinking it has at least 12 inches or more of insulation. I Found my moisture meter but don't have batteries for it. Will be checking my wood out and see if I need to buy a couple cords of dry wood from someone. But life I said previously, I think I May have figured out my problem. I stuck some wood in the stove and it got going but not like I hoped. It was more like I was not getting air. Even the smoke would come out more then usual despite opening The door slowly. So I found that the previous owners had installed the stove and installed the fresh air kit and routed the intake through the floor under the crawl space. I just went outside and popped one of the crawl space vents. Holy cow! With the stove turned all the way down, it is still burning hot! I'm on my way to cooking myself out of the house! I can't believe what a difference it made by just opening a vent!

My fellow wood burners!
It's a 3bd 2ba with two living rooms. The only room not used is the extra bedroom. http://firewoodresource.com/firewood-btu-ratings/ According to this, it burns just as hot as red fir. I do like the bedroom cooler, but the master bathroom and toilet room is nippy. It sucks taking a hot shower then stepping out and knotting up from the cold. I really think allot of it has to do with the stove. I think it's got too small a firebox, and I think they're focused too much on trying to make the fire burn clean. Jag, if you think it can't be said, pm me and tell me.

I'm looking at this long term. I really want to be off grid completely. I cannot run a generator to make all the power I need all the time. For now until I get set up, I'll do the generator in emergencies. I'm eyeing forklift batteries. Found some good ones in the range of a few thousand and is supposed to last at least 20 years. The neighbor said he spent 65 on parts and wired it up and all he has to do is turn the main off before firing up the generator.

My fellow wood burners!
So I'll fill you in a little so you get an idea of what's going on. Back in start of August we found a house and bought it. It was darn near everything we've always wanted. It has wood heat and electric heat on the furnace. I knew that the furnace would be expensive to run so I went for wood heat by default. we've always wanted wood heat! So we ordered a log truck load of wood and had it dumped at the house. 10 cord of paper birch. With all move ins things get hectic. But I finally managed a day where I could get a big group together to help with the wood since it was so late on the year. Managed to muster up about 10 or so people. But it ranged from 4year old's to 50 something year old's with emphysema and a handicap from their leg. Haha, what a combination.. I was the only one able to run a saw and a neighbor Running a splitter. The rest just stacked wood. We managed to put Back what looked and calculated out to be 4 cord in 6 hours. Now, it was just sitting and letting it season. Fast forward to now, when the temps are really dipping down. A lot of wood had time to season up pretty good. But the other stuff didn't. I'm sitting on half seasoned wood with winter staring me in the face. If I run the furnace for heat, I know the Bill Will skyrocket. The previous owners highest electric Bill was in middle of winter at 650!!! They must have liked it warm! I've been burning quite frequently now trying to keep wood in the stove at all times for burning. My coal pile is getting so big I can barely get more wood in. The temps are dipping into the 20s, and I'm struggling to keep this 2500 square foot house warmer than 60! I've got fans pushing all the air around I can and using the furnace on fan to get the air into every bit of space that the fans can't. The woodstove is a Quadrafire 4300 and I'm slightly impressed with it. It says in the manual it can heat a house this big, but I'm having a hard time believing it. I've been Running it as high as I can without over firing it and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm looking at getting a different stove. I've always wanted a blaze king and their king model is exactly what I want. The stove isn't in our budget this year so I gotta figure out what to do as we can see negative Temps for weeks during winter peak. We're running around in layers but in reality with wood heat we just shouldn't have to do that. I want to cook myself out of the house! Also, unless I go retrieve my own wood, loggers don't sell anything else around here for firewood except the paper birch. I was thinking my best bet would be to buy a cord of wood and hope for the best. Anyone burning got ideas? I sure hope next years season Will be better!

Well we only went a day and a half without power! Used at least 10 gallons if fuel for the generator. I've got a neighbor who said he'd sell me a generator for 425. He says there's very low hours on it and runs great. It's a 5000 watt Generac with Briggs and Stratton. But he bought it back in '99. The other problem is, I don't think the 220v demand from the well could handle it. The breakers on the panel for the well are two breakers bridged with 30 amp on them. He used to be an electrician as well. So I was going to have him wire a plug in for me to run the house off the generator. I think I'm gonna need a bigger generator. I'd like to get my hands on military gen instead. Definitely looking harder at solar power too. Running the house off of some gigantic 6v batteries is looking like a good idea.

Well fellas, the in laws are not very bothered by the while ordeal. It's just used as their garbage run truck. They want me to just fix the stuff on it for functionality. I've priced it out and It'll cost less than their deductible. I feel better knowing how they feel about it now. I'm still pretty gunshy about driving the road again lol. We haven't gotten any snow since then so it's going to be difficult getting reacquainted with driving in it until then. Before that little freak storm, it has been almost two years since driving in the snow! Not much to speak of but darn cold temps!

I just looked again when I got home. The pump is 230 volt. Well Is only 75 feet deep. Running with a 5500watt cummins onan. Its powering the 5th wheel, two fridges and anything we need to charge. I ran into town today and picked up 25 gallons of gas. Hoping that Will be enough until power comes back on. I'm in north idaho. A neighbor has an extra generator he's willing to sell. Says it's pretty much brand New. 7000watt for 500. Dont matter much if I can tie into the panel... It'll end up being a higher priority on my list, as I've been told this is commonplace around here. And usually it's an extended outage as well. I'm thinking about seeing what my cost analysis will show with solar setup versus doing a generator Running off a 2000 gallon propane supply. As it sits, still without power and still looking at another possible 2days without.

As if things couldn't get worse! I really hoped the vehicle accident was going to be the least of my problems. I didn't think much of it but I guess the storm we just had roll through the Pacific northwest here was worse than I thought. Went into work yesterday and the weather was getting bad. Halfway through the shift, the power goes out and stays out. That's when the fun began. We get called off and head home. Downed trees everywhere! Windy as crap still. Managed to finally get home after some help cleared the road for us. I geared up and made my round around my area and spent some time cutting up Downed trees to help clear paths for others. Managed to gather a half cord in the process. As I sit, we still have no power and the local utilities in the region have varied estimates for power to come back on. Our area could be up to 3 days before we get power. My mother back in Spokane said she was told it could be up to 23 days! Thankfully I have the generator that I'm Running from the 55th wheel to keep the fridges going. I got the wood heat but no power to run my well. Anyone have ideas how I could rig something up to get it to run temp.? I'm playing damage control up here and still somehow I have to go to work without the Ability to eat or shower, etc. I think I need to hunker down. Hope it doesnt take long before we get Our power back! Believe me, I was putting alternative energy power on my list, but this happened sooner than I had money for!

KDP?!
Your complicating it. Grind a fender washer into a tear drop and be done.

I'm assuming he's just trying to get his ducks in a row before he buys a 24v.

All shook up...
Well tonight was the first night of snow in our area. It's still snowing like crazy still as I compose this. Got off work and left for home around midnight. Was carpooling with the mother in law. We are borrowing the brother in laws Forzda. Tried taking it easy all the way home, but apparently the one corner I Tried to take just Was too fast. I Was coming up on it and it came quicker than I thought it Was. So I Tried slowing down. It started to slide instead. So I let off the brakes and Tried to turn, nothing. So I turned the wheels into the bank on my right side hoping that the driveway going uphill Was going to be my saving Grace. on my left, Was the river. At the very last second the truck Got enough traction and I Managed to swipe the persons mailbox and up the driveway I went. But it didn't go without a hitch. As I swiped this mailbox, which had to have had a footing to the center of the earth, I managed to leave carnage down the side of the truck. The door glass broke and showered me in shards. then I didn't exactly go up the driveway. I went up a little, and ended up in the ditch along it. Crashing into down tree vegetation. The wife Was on the passenger side and she Was concerned of the limbs coming through. I really thought I toasted the truck. But I managed to back it out of the ditch and take an assessment of everything. No leaks anywhere and truck Was steering and running fine. Everyone was okay and nothing serious. I'm pretty sore now that the adrenaline has worn off and got some cuts from the glass. I'll feel the truth more in the morning after waking up. The principal of the matter is that I'm highly disappointed in myself for having this happen. I'm very prideful in myself that I take care of someone's vehicle I drive, and that I maintain control as well. I'm not happy that I caused this and feel even more like an ***. Now I get the pleasure of paying the deductible. I'm worried about driving the dodge now! ? I'm drinking a cold one to calm the nerves...

You can pay the outrageous price for the kit or do like allot of people do and fab one up. it's really easy. Open her up and assess the situation, then you could do like me and get a large fender washer and grind it down till it covers the pin. Loctite the bolt you use to hold the washer in place.

KDP?!
Tabbing the pin is the common practice..

It sounds like it was hit and miss. I don't think it got completely remedied until '02? Pretty much the only guarantee to know you won't have a problem is to open up any 2nd gen you have to be sure. Once the 3rd gens came along it was not a problem.

I had to do it on mine...

Tell me what direction to go
Part number for the solenoid and sensor?

Tell me what direction to go
Thanks for the link. I'll try and give the shop a call and see what they say. I do have a trans temp gauge. That's how I know it got hot a few times. Anybody know anything about the gmc solenoid upgrade?
-
Tell me what direction to go
I spent 4500 on a transmission shop to do a rebuild for me less than a year owning the truck. I was told they were Kevlar clutches. Dunno if that makes a difference. This Will be the first service to the transmission since the break in change. My plans are to get a deep pan, but that's not going to happen this service interval. I might have put 20k on the fluid, been 4 years or so since the last servicing. Fluid is finally starting to turn darker. I was towing heavy during this time and before I got smart about pulling the trailer, the trans got hot a few times so it's helping me to stay resolved in changing the fluid.
-
Tell me what direction to go
The time has come to change the transmission fluid. Need to know whether I should do the full or partial flush. In leaning towards full flush, but that's me. I'd like to put atf4 in with a full flush. Dunno how to go about a full flush though. Also, while the pan is dropped, doing the filter, thought about band adjustment and the Chevy solenoid. Don't remember the part number for it. What else should I or could I do while I'm servicing the transmission. I was going to do the block off for the passage to get 2nd gear lockup capability too.

RANCHER DIES IN SHOOTOUT WITH DEPUTIES PLANNING TO KILL BULL
If the news report is accurate, it sounds like premeditated murder. Discussing something before going and shoving the guy. Sounds like a couple bullies in uniform chomping at the bit for some action.

Duly noted. Cpp you build it kit looks very attractive. But only when the funds allow, lol. I'll look into the grill guards..

Curious, wouldn't a modified camshaft do something similar depending on the cut profile?

RANCHER DIES IN SHOOTOUT WITH DEPUTIES PLANNING TO KILL BULL
My brother in law has just recently left the force because of what manner the department carries themselves in now. Everyone that I talked to that knew him as am officer, even the ones he's arrested, admit that he was a good cop. It's unfortunate because these are the people we Need on the tax roll. He was with the department for about 5 years and had more time than that as a jailer. Now he is a probation officer. His chief wouldn't promote him even though he deserved it. Guess what His reason was; he was too nice of a cop!!! With the expansion of the us95 corridor, idaho has increased it's state trooper base to patrol the highway more. Which concerns me because with the sudden influx of demand, means they bring on anyone qualified or willing to do whatever they're ordered. In my area, we've had a few officer involved shootings that have caused problems. This is a small town area but yet we've probably had more shootings than Spokane in the past year. I was recently pulled over for a tail light out on the utility trailer. Hauling my bees home in the night. First questions I get outs whether or not I was a criminal and whether or not I had weapons on me. Naturally I had to then procure my permit as I did have my pistol. The concerning part is whether or not I have to worry about the guy telling me he can violate muy rights by saying he has the right to search me now... It turned out to be a harmless stop and I shook his hand for not giving me a ticket. First thing I do is run through a mental checklist to see if the cop really is a cop and not an impersonator. After, I'm on guard for not having my right violated.
