  1. Wow, just seems like one more nail in the coffin for the electric pump world.. Im jumping the wagon on these blasted pumps as soon as possible!
  2. Alright, got the air dog yesterday in the mail. Took me a little while to swap it out. Everything was rusted and seized up. Not impressed with their bracket that the motor and block mounts to. Needless to say the truck is up and running again. Didn't have time to bother taking both pumps apart to compare the two. I'm not entirely interested in bothering with the system anyways. My interest for it has flatlined. Pressures fluctuate 5psi from 20 at idle to 15psi at wot.. Need to budget for the fuel boss in the meantime before this pump dies on me. Now, as for the vp44, mileage has steadily dropped since i got the truck from 20mpg to 12 on a bad day. Could the problem be from the piston problem mentioned above? I've done allot of work to the truck to keep it in working order and even my tire size was the same. Confused why mileage is dropping.at the same time i would hate to drop some of my beans on a new vp44 floor it to not bee the problem. Who even does the new housing and computer anyways?
  3. Ill never understand someone who declares themselves vegetarian. There is a multitude of reasons why i think being vegan is a very inappropriate lifestyle. Especially when they go to the extreme of calling me a thief for taking honey from my bees. I've read and been told, people who have diets high in protein and especially animal protein show they are healthier and live longer. The consensus was eating atleast 120g of protein a day. Wait, i guess we were not talking about protein, lol.
  4. W&f, you suggested the same thing i did. Imo taking the Vit d and epa/dha supplements too. Naturally, stuff i got from my work, lol. Another one to look at is methyltetrahydrofolate glucosamine salt.
  5. Two things, one, i think we should try and track down what if any of the industrial cummins uses a vp44, and if so, did they have a lift pump, and what? Two, measuring amp load probably would only tell half the story. Imagine the amp load on cold fuel?
  6. Why should we even have to buy an extra lift pump for a backup in the first place?? Why would i want to fork over 1300 for two lift pumps to have the equivalent of one? These products are lacking, and the proof is in the pudding. Richard Martin told me his belt is still original and its been on for several years. You also need to buy. Am extra set of belts too. They are much cheaper than a lift pump Motor and don't have to wait on them either. I dunno about the distance from pump thing. But yes friction loss is a factor. Although what does it compare to air dog or fass? With inline filters pre lift pump, compared to post lift pump. The pump also is also ran by mechanical instead of electric. More power imo.. The oem lift pump for priming is optional too. You can use a drill to prime. Dunno about the oil pan thing..
  7. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lUxcyx7_WTE ...don't forget the farts!
  8. When i talked to fass, it actually sounded like they would be more of a pain for warranty than air dog. Said if something was wrong, you'd have to send it in and they'd look at it before making a determination on it. What does a person do in the meantime? I asked air dog to give me their new pump design the g4. They wouldn't do it. Then when he told me they usually only last 4year's i told him i wanted an extra pump and he wasn't going for it either. I told him how i felt about being without a vehicle because of their product. ...this is why im dropping the whole system. Fuel boss, here i come! For the record,I've owned the air dog about 4 years. This is my 3rd pump, now...
  9. At this rate, i don't care how good of a warranty fass has. I have the lifetime warranty with air dog. Even if i had one with fass, it still wouldn't thrill me. I'm still stuck without the ability to drive my truck because of their lack of complete thoroughness in r&d work. I could understand if this was something that happened once like every ten or so years or more. NOT 2-4 years! C'mon, even oem parts are going longer then that! My curiosity is the idea of filter location. Talked to Richard from GDP, he suggests to put the filters between the injection pump and lift pump. I wonder if putting fuel through the filters with pressure instead of vacuum affects the filtration and what the filters are designed for.
  10. Wait, a 20 footer? Whew! That's quite the baby! Any idea what she was feeding that thing?
  11. Hehe,ed will tell you it's a secret, but i think he gets so excited about it he has too tell you his secret. Everyone knows his secret, lol. Heh just needs to put out! C'mon, ed! Just got off the phone with GDP, I'm leaning towards the mechanical. But it would virtually be a totally new install and gutting the air dog completely. He told me that he offers a filter block to filter the fuel. Post pump, pre injection pump. Otherwise it might cause problems for the lift pump. Going to need to toss this one to the wife. I can still value the air dog at a good price too since the pump is really the only wear tear item.
  12. WE desperately need to figure something else out for a lift pump system.. Btw, turns out i must live in the coolest area of the country! Not only do i have alligator performance near me, but i have diesel power products, AND dpp told me that gdp is local too! So the best mechanical lift pump Thus far on the market is right in my backyard! and Mike is like 5hours drive from me!
  13. Yes,she said approximately 17k hours worth of run time. So wait, that's even less than 2years. But obviously your not running the truck 24/7. Just wanted to clarify that before we keep running with it..
  14. At this point, i dunno if i could resell the system to anyone even with a 0hr replacement pump. I'd even feel bad about doing it too. Just got off the phone with fass. Not sure I'm hot on them either. Lady told me that their expected service life was the equivalent of 2.5years. Sounds like I'm going to need too jump ship on the electric pumps...
  15. Now,here's something to poke a stick at.. Been thinking, the fuel boss doesn't come with a filtration system.that was a big selling point for me with the air dog. What if i tried to supplement the mechanical with the air dog. Would the air dog be too restrictive on flow if i only had it there to utilize for priming? It would only run when the Hobbs switch doesn't see pressure. It's either that or i use it as a bypass system and get it to prime for me when needed and its there to use if the mechanical died on me. I'd still have to get a filter block for the mechanical system,though.. Anyone wanna buy an air dog system, lol!
  16. ....sigh. I'll do my best to repeat this verbatim. Got a hold of them and dude told me, "we expect these pumps to have an average service life of about 4 years" What? He said this is why they have lifetime warranty. He said 4years was pretty hard wear and tear on a pump. Gave me the shpiel about other companies not comparing to them and not as good d they are about warranty. He said he wouldn't give me the new g4 design but he swears up and down that the motor I'll be getting will be good since they no longer use the manufacturer that gave them the bad batch of motors that caused them such a headache.. Hmmm.... I think i might do a little experiment this time. I think i might crack both pumps open side by side when i get it and see if that really is true. Won't get my pump until Wednesday or so.. Said i could pay overnight shipping but wouldn't get it until Monday anyways. Great, so i get to figure out wtf to do for transportation... Telling him that i couldn't rely on the pump didn't really seem to bother him. It's what they've come too expect. That's frustrating. Why do we live in the world of warranties instead of just making it right the first time! As far as lift pumps go, wife had the idea of getting the new pump and selling the while shebang and buying a different one. Except i really dunno who to trust and go with. I'm tired of playing games. I just want a freaking pump that i don't need to worry about again! What's the consensus on the mechanical pumps. I always told myself that if i did it again i would go mechanical. But, IIRC, something was going on with them too, right?
  17. Number 3 may be my problem this time around. Left a message, no callback... Will try again tomorrow. Last time, it was prompt service no questions asked, here you go sir.
  18. This is awesome! I have allot of the parts needed for my swap to do this except some small ends and pieces like a controller. Why are you doing this instead of the banshee or fleece? I have no idea what all the code means nor would i even begin to know how to write it.. Will the end result be comparable to the fleece or banshee? Except probably cost a fraction compared to theirs?
  19. The last time it went out. It was the seal. Diesel got into the motor area and kept blowing fuses...
  20. Last night, was driving around doing errands and suddenly a voice told me look at your fuel pressure. Pressure was at 12psi and kept an eye on it. Would stay steady at this pressure driving around but was ready to shut her down If needed. Guess the filter replacement didn't Fox my problem. Got home waited to clear the ecu and bump stated it. Pump sounded like it was dying! Guess I'm going to be calling airdog in the morning for a replacement! Shoot, first one went 9 months, this time almost 3 years...
  21. Back in high school doing auto body, we had a room dedicated to color matching. You would look up a paint code and, IIRC, could input the vehicle and it would estimate the paint fade, etc. Grabbed a paint can and put it on a scale then it would tell you what pigments to use and you would dispense it until the computer told you to stop. That was the hardest part. Wish it dispensed it for you. I had a white car i had to paint one time, and believe it or not i had to use a green color like the color of mint. I had just a few drops too much in the mix and ruined the batch! Paint came out looking like Wintergreen gum.. Anyways, enough of my rambling. If your insistent on painting it yourself, practice on a panel of cardboard with your hvlp gun until you think you got it. Painting is something you need to practice alot before doing on a vehicle. Once that paint goes on, if it's not right, it can be a real pain to fix even the smallest flaws.
  22. All good advice, except I'm concerned about this new paint application not blending in well with the older paint...
