  1. I occassionally see vets in the store with their hats on. Mostly vietnam'ers. I always wonder if I did thank them and shook their hand, what their reaction would be like. I usually stop myself, because I get the feeling they would kinda scold me for it... I know it sounds weird, but thats how I get to feeling. :shrug:I have a couple things in my way to get this going, but hopefully I can address the situation today.1. Because he is not doing so well anymore, a lady friend of his comes over and stays with him. I think she is his girlfriend. You know how them older people get! I think I'm gonna present the idea to her and see what she thinks.2. Gotta get a flyer composed. I do not have word on this computer and I would like it to be somewhat formal. I'm gonna ask the lady if she can get me a picture of him in his time during service. So heres my idea:- Why the purpose of the flyer- What the idea is- Who its directed to- Where to do it- When to do itHahaha, I just realized I did the 5 w's...I'll probably have to go to kinkos to do this, unless someone can help me? I obviously need to get this done sooner than later as I need to give people enough notice. I'm also gonna recommend them to spread the word to others as they can as I would like to make his yard CHOCKED FULL of flags! Then, maybe I can take them and make some sort of keepsake for him if there is a turnout from this. OHH! The ideas just keep coming!
  2. Okay, gotcha! Now, isn't that port on the oil filter block also used when you do an oil bypass kit? I would like to eventually have one, but was not sure if there would be a conflict between the two and that port?
  3. Eh, its kinda like when you go tell a woman to go find a switch the size of your thumb to beat her with and she comes back with a little whp instead... Can you source me an image of this sample port? Where does it install at? Can I use the plastic line that the SOS kit provides?
  4. Eh, this is not praiseworthy. The man who served, he is praiseworthy... :USflag:As/if this has more development, I will be sure to keep this updated for the outcome from this...
  5. So two houses down, one of our neighbors is a WWII vet. I was hoping to do something special for him. MY thought was to put flyers on peoples doors on our surrounding blocks to make them aware of what kind of person is around them. If they feel they want to honor him, they stake those little wooden flags in his yard.He is definitely an old boy and unfortunately on his way out... I want to make some sort of lasting impression on him that shows that there are still people in this world that are grateful for his service! Also, how more cool is that, that a WWII vet lives two house down from me! :thumb1:As for a personal gift, we were gonna get him a flag and card from me and the wife.
  6. You better hope it happens when I'm home! I told moparmom that I might be in Yakima soon, so it would only end up being on a weekend that we could meet... Eh, when the time gets closer we will have to exchange numbers and make it final! Whew! And I thought buying my signing my life over for my 5th wheel was a bit sketchy! I tell ya, I don't think I would have much trust in many people on CF...
  7. Refer to the frantz bypass filter thread that has been posted on recently and you'll see the spinner2 video link on my post. It filters the oil to less than a micron!
  8. Ugh, had a whole reply typd up to respond to this and lost it...:banghead: I'll cut to the chase on my reply. Sodium citrate is what is in the flush. Its like using soap... There is no acid in it like the pre-epa stuff... - - - Updated - - - Through the years of DIY'ing my mechanics, I found that small mirrors really come in handy. You can use them to reflect the light and get a good look behind something without a sweat. One mirror that I have is just like a dental mirror. I think I got it when I went in for a checkup but I think you can also get them at the store too. It would be small enough to fit into the radiator cap hole and then shine a light on it and take a peek...
  9. Don't worry I'll come out and admit it! I'm the big dope! :ashamed:Got an account setup with Amsoil, so I will be buying their siphon kit soon...
  10. Reality show, yea, right after honey boo-boo!
  11. Maybe one day I can be on that list of trustworthy people...
  12. GOOD! I was hoping you would say that.I wanna switch to AmSoil this time for my oil. Need to know which one to get though. They say Cj-4, so can I still use it? Should I get 5w-40 or 15w-40?
  13. Don't waste your time with the prestone radiator flush/cleaner. I took my radiator for the truck into a radiator shop and the guy told me that its basically soap. The EPA has had their day with the real deal stuff the radiator shops used to clean the radiators out with. He said, now its VERY few and FAR between where there are very FEW places that can still us the good stuff to clean raditors, etc.All he can do now is either re-core or replace...If I were you, take the radiator to a shop, have them look at it and see if they can tell you whats going on with it and whether or not it needs replaced/repaired, etc.If it were me, I would check to see if the water jackets in your engine are blocked. If the coolant is coming out muddy, chances are that stuff is in your block as well and you have blocked/clogged jackets. Pull some freeze plugs maybe and see what is inside...
  14. Don't wanna throw a wrench into the situation, but you guys might also wanna check out the spinner 2. Its probably a little more spendier, but I think you may be able to go longer than with any other bypass filter on the market. Some people have gone 80k miles on an oil change. Yea, I guarantee they have had to fill up many more times. But to have to physically break the oil pan bolt and drain and replace the filter in 80k miles...
  15. Holy shiitake mushrooms, batman!
  16. As much as I would like to agree with you, everyone here is still a stranger to me. It was still a risk for me to put my neck on the line with the assumption that the other person on the other end of the computer is who they say they are and follows through with their word.
  17. So me and war eagle set up a deal to make trades for mounting brackets for our 5th wheel hitches. We paid shipping for our own packages to the other. He had what I needed and vice versa. There had to be an aspect of trust there in order to take the others word for it that they would ship their package with no real proof. The only common ground we had was the honor system and that probably because were both on this forum, that we both must be a decent person. All I can say is that everything went according to plan and now I can get started on putting my hitch in!
  18. Alright, the whole CI-4 Cj-4 designation thing does not make sense to me. What is important about the difference?I'm not sure what you mean about high rpms? Like frequent redlining of the engine? I do not hot rod it like a rice car, but yes I do occassionally goose it. It does not even get near 3k rpms though. I have not towed heavy the least bit with this truck yet.Is there a way to get a leakdown test for the air intake? I've made up my own boost cap, but the last time I played with that was last year. My boost has never gone above 30psi.I will do an oil change, hopefully today. But as far as air filter goes, I can't see why I would need a new air filter? I have a BHAF that I bought no more than 2 years ago. Probably about 1 1/2 years ago. Its got a filter cover for it. I have the filter minder on it and the filter minder has not said it needs change. I understand that it is only for restriction of flow and not a leak.Who is OAI? Does CAT's SOS analysis do the TBN? What is TBN?I did have a K&N filter before my BHAF. I did recognize that it did leave things behind in my intake system. I was not really able to clean it out. I'm sure it has left quit a bit in my air intake as there is obviously alot to the intake system.I obtained the oil sample through the drain plug of the oil pan. Unscrewed it a little bit and collected it by a few drops a second. The CAT guy never told me about possible contamination, so I never thought it could be a problem. It came with a plastic line, but what the heck 'am I gonna do with that? So, do I have an engine thats on its way out?
  19. Got an SOS kit through CAT rental. Got the results back. Need help understanding the numbers...Lead: 1Copper: 2Iron: 23Chrome: 2Tin: 0 Nickel: 0Silver: 0Alumium: 11Silicon: 39Sodium: 10Potassium: 1Moly: 92Barium: 0Calcium: 1491Magnesium: 385Phosphorus: 1235Zinc: 1233Soot: 7Oxidation: 19Nitration: 9Sulfation: 22Visc 100c: 13.4Glycol: N/AFuel: N/AWater: NegativeDelo 400LE 15w40Comments: High Silicon indicates dirt entry into system. If you have already changed your oil, resample in 3k miles. What are the numbers measured in? PPM? Also, what do they mean dirt in system? How does this lead to a high silicon number? Do I need to changed my oil?
  20. Hey, looks like we might be on to something here!
  21. Directed to d4l or me? - - - Updated - - - Okay, so I thought the front line to the tranny went to the cooler, but it goes to the exchanger. So yes, I have it mounted on the proper line. http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-non-powertrain/141809-transmission-temp-gauge-sending-unit-location.html
  22. How much you selling it for and what would be included? How many miles? Pullrite rebadged their 18ks to the 20k because they retested it and found there was a negligble diff. between the two. Called pullrite and they said I can do a 90 degree turn on flat level surface. But on uneven terrain it will need to be watched. Then again, how many of those turns will I ever really take...
  23. Well, I guess it was a thought... Dunno why 2nd gear would be any more diff. than other gears?Don't understand what your meaning, Mike...
  24. I'm happy to never have been priveliged to wear one of those lead caskets!
  25. Alright, so I did a little brainstorming on the matter. Dunno if I'm on to something here or not? Need to pose this question and bounce it off of you guys.I hope to get my exhaust brake here soon and thinking on the issue more, considering I have an auto, it makes some sense. I have not been able to tell if my transmission does a 2nd gear lock up or not. But if not, I think I may have a good idea for a workaround.IIRC, a lock-up switch will allow you to lock the TC at ANY time, right? Well if so, would this work:- EB kicks in at 3rd or 4th but then the truck slows down enough to the point that it shifts to 2nd. EB kicks off as the trans does not have 2nd gear lockup. So my thought to remedy this is that when this occurs, shift the transmission to 2nd gear with lever on the steering column. Then, hit the lock-up switch and lock the TC. Now, the EB should kick back on, or hit the switch to kick the eb on?Not sure how the EB controller will react to this, but if this is a possibilty, sure sounds worth it!
