  1. Umm, wait a tick. IIRC, high oil pressure is never a problem. LOW oil pressure is though...
  2. Well, I'd have to say this is a bit of a gimmick, the idea of these new trailers having a sloped side and allowing a short bed truck to use a regular hitch is seemingly to be a crock of crap. For our trucks, our beds should be 6.5', right? The hitch me and the guy were thinking about doing a deal on was not a slider. I was speaking of manual slider. It was a regular non-manual slider. I posed the question to him today and we got a 3rd person to deliberate on it. He said that it would not work, even if it was a manual-slider.So apparently, even if you tow a 5th wheel with the sloped sides, you still need an auto-sliding hitch. He did say it was possible to use a manual-sliding hitch, but if there is ever a time to turn sharply in traffic, you would have to slide it. But my problem is, how the heck are you ever gonna know when that turn is the one that will cause you a problem? Besides the safety risk it would be to jump out of your truck in traffic just to slide the hitch.I looked on CL here locally and only found one at $1000. Its crazy how much they can cost..I'm disappointed as I thought the sloped nose on the 5th wheel would help keep me from buying an auto slider. :banghead:
  3. Well, may be a little off-topic for this thread, but I can attest to the 55mph driving. Took my wood rack off my truck finally and drove back and forth on I-90. Put about 100 or so miles on this tank and 'am at 7/8 full! Which hand calculated, that gives me about 25mpg! :ahhh:Its all highway driving and I've got a bunch of city driving to do soon so obviously its gonna go down. But driving 55mph and getting that wood rack off has helped me a BUNCH! I was avg. 14-16 highway/city. If I can get a cumulative total of 18-20mpg with a mix, I will be happy!Theres one chunk of freeway that up's to 70mph in WA so I take a little risk going 55mph there as WA has a min. speed limit. But other then that, I can stick it to 'em and go 55mph!
  4. Try and find a local driveline shop and see if they can quote you for a custom made 1-piece. Might be spendy up front, but it might justify it if it gives you the longevity.
  5. Well, I went to a trailer show locally, and a guy offered to sell me his reese 18k 5th hitch. I dunno if its a slider or not. All of the 5th's I'm looking at have the noses made to allow for tighter turn radius' with a short bed, but I dunno if that still means I need the slider for tight turn negotiations backing into spots, etc. :shrug:I hope that his is a slider if I need one as he is only wanting $400 for it. A family member maybe put on 5k miles on the hitch before they passed away and the wife wanted to sell it. I'm concerned that I will need the brackets for it to fit my truck, as I don't think it will be a universal and he thinks it came off of a ford...I would love to run the under the bed rails and have the gooseneck option with it, but I gotta budget myself so I can get into a trailer. Its not the most opportune time for me to get into one, but I've kinda worn out my welcome here with family and need to get outta here. :doh:Was looking on reeses site and they have the hidden style for $300 and change. :ahhh:I will need your guys' input when I get the hitch as to where I need to place the hitch in the bed! Thanks for those specs, dripley, was just trying to get an idea of what you were pulling. I'm trying not to go anymore than what your pulling...
  6. Hey, whats the specs on your trailer? Length, weight, etc? - - - Updated - - - Well, who could point me in the right direction for a mounting kit for a 5th hitch? Can't seem to find a kit for a 99?
  7. I just thought, we should have a sticky in this forum for what should be suggested in doing to improve our trucks to tow/haul. Whether that is steering, cooling, performance, safety or braking upgrades. Maybe put upgrade suggestions into categories by weight. Say someone wants to pull 10,000lbs. Well, what should be done to our trucks to safely pull something that heavy?Well, sounded like a good idea...
  8. Well, I suppose I'm stuck doing a king pin setup for a 5th wheel. Is doing a notched tailgate mandatory when doing a 5th wheel? I did not think it was? Now, what about conversion boxes? I see they sell the boxes to convert the 5th to a goose instead of using the adapter? Would this be of any benefit?I do want to be able to take it into the mountains with me for camping... Most of the roads in the forest are managed, but when you get off the beaten path a bit, there is a little more roughage.I want to try and steer clear of rear hitch trailers as I'm trying to capitalize on the space we'll have for a living area.
  9. Been looking at hitches for a 5th wheel and wondering what benefit there is of converting the king pin to a goose setup. My thoughts are infinite articulation. Dunno what kind of articulation you get in a king pin setup? As well the other point would be that if you had a gooseneck setup, then obviously spending money on a king pin hitch is not worth it. But heck, seems like most king pin hitches are about $400. This adapter is about that: http://www.reese-hitches.com/products/Fifth_Wheel_to_Gooseneck_Coupler_Adapter,C5G I do have future plans to tow a gooseneck trailer, so would it be worth my time to get a goose setup and then get the adaptor and tow a 5th with it?
  10. If you need a TC, try this: Here
  11. I think a big portio of your problem is that you live too close to Portland. Alot of the younger generation lives, and so does there crappy thinking. As for settling in Idaho, we can always use a Libertarian or conservative in Sandpoint area! Need to push out the hippies. Irony is they forget where they are sometimes. Sandpoint was voted #1 place to live. Probably only #1 for people who retire cause for me it sucks! I wish more people would move here to help create jobs, not just recluse away with their money.Probably did not make much of a case for myself in convincing you to move here, huh? :lol:We have alot more trees in our area than anywhere else in Idaho. The panhandle, that is. Any more south and you would almost think you were in AZ.Wood can be plentiful, but it takes work to get at it!
  12. I have a stihl 044 with a 20" and 36" bar. It will take some time to buck them. I'm actually leaning towards milling the wood instead. Trying to get a family friend to let me fix his trailer sawmill to use it for this stuff. WE HAVE A WINNER! Most definitely! If her place was in a little more public place, she would be having a problem with people hounding her for it. I've gotta get my saws in working order for this season and probably pick up a few more chains and a sharpener.
  13. She said they get 2-4 hours if they're lucky! She also is having a hard time figuring out how anybody gets past having more than one child! My mom retorts, "Cause they forgot what the 1st was like!" He is defiitely an intersting kid already. Makes tons of funny faces and can't seem to rid his hands from his face!
  14. Preventing getting lost, that just takes some awareness and understanding of your location as it changes. This can involve a number of different methods: - Photographic memory - Realtime tracking, GPS, etc. - Map and compass. - Telling others where you are, where you expect to be and for how long. - Leave markers like ribbon, etc. - Landmarks - Sun Now, what TO DO when lost... STOP, do NOT panic. Many people will panic and start doing many irrational things. Many people have become lost and did not even realize there was a road, path, etc. close to them that was well traveled. This is a very defining moment for people. As this can create a huge problem or nothing at all. Stay PUT! Most of the time, if you are lost, staying put will yield you great success in being found. IF you know where you came from, backtrack on your path and do NOT deviate! If you are someone like me, even I can backtrack a path. But sometimes that does not mean I will make it back to my location in adequate time before I lose light. Being a hunter, I can walk trails in the brush left by animals and not even realize my instant location. I could have either distanced myself from my starting location or brought myself only steps away from it. Trees and the brush, etc. can cause someone to be dis-oriented. If you come to a point where staying put is becoming a risk more than of benefit, move. Do you have any landmarks? Things such as a large mountain in the distance that you can walk in a line towards. Do you have bodies of water like streams, rivers, etc? What about the sun? Is it cloudy outside or sunny? What time of the day did you start your trek? Note the location of the sun. The sun rises from the east and sets in the west. You can then effectively travel north according to the sun. Stop when the sun is directly above you and rest. Take shade and wait until the sun starts falling. When and if you ever decide to move from the point that you first realize you have become lost, leave those markers! Not always will it take a piece of ribbon, etc. to mark your previous presence. Some better trained S&R personnel can also realize that things that do not naturally occur in the wilderness can also be a marker. Marking your trail with geometrical things or disturbing the area that would not usually occur. Also, be sure to create ALOT of noise. But if a search team is deployed, also stop to listen as well. Anything in a pattern of 3 is a universal distress signal. Whistles, tree knocking, yelling, etc. If you have a firearm with plenty of ammo, shoot in 3's, especially if you hear someone and they could be looking for you. If you end up being caught in the woods for an overnight stay, prioritize your needs: 1. Water 2. Fire 3. Shelter 4. Food In that order! Fire will be another thing to help you in being found. The object to being found is to do exactly the opposite of trying to be lost... Thats all I got off the top of my head for now...
  15. A local lady gets bark chip from a landscaping company for her nursery. Shes going to be plantig 5,000 blueberry plants and needs the bark chip. Well, as a fringe benefit, they dump the wood there as well. Well, they only go through 6 cord/year. This is the product of them dumping their wood from last year. She needs a fella like me to come over and get rid of the excess. It can be a very ideal situation for me as I will hopefully only have my saw and labor as my overhead. Guy is gonna get me a splitter and trailer. All I have to do is fill his woodshed and this and the rest of the wood from this year will be mine! Now, someone tell me, who can guess the approx. cordage of this wood? Different mix of species of wood, pine, elm, fir, poplar, maybe birch. I'm looking at trying to mill out the majority of it for lumber. Maybe make some beams, countertops, etc.? Otherwise it will be firewood...
  16. Born March 3rd, 2013. A pastor from my sisters church holding my nephew. The little worm managed to make a picture into probably what should go viral!
  17. Well, I've been doing this gig: Been on this job for aobut 8 months. Was Vol. FF, and cutting firewood.
  18. Mike, what I mean by that comment is that if you go to a church now, more often then not, you will see those that will be unwilling to do the smallest thing for another person. Yet, they go home and edulge in everything of pleasure without a second thought about the suffering of others they could have helped stopped.Church as a whole is usually good on support. But I believe it has dwindled to the point that it has failed. Does that mean it cannot return to good standing? No..We can all agree though, too, that Govt. needs to stop changing the diapers. We are a melting pot of culture. I think the biggest problem we face from immigrants is probably the extremely lax education that they have to undertake to become a citizen. I bet you they don't even teach anything American, let alone make them learn to say the pledge of allegience.I get frustrated every time I listen to an immigrant come here and they are speaking their native tongue, as if they were still citizens of their former country. You wanna speak your native tongue? Okay, but don't do it in front of me cause your probably talking about me...
  19. Ahh, yea. Your getting at the idea of community. Some of it even to the extent of the role of church body. What I was gonna get at with my previous long-winded post was to describe an aspect of that. Govt. was intended to be in existance for the role W&F said they were purposed for. They were given boundaries defined by our framework. The rest of the responsibilities were to be entrusted to the people. Church IS supposed to help bring people together as community. We are charged with doing things like this: Caring for the homeless widowed sick poor needy hungry Govt. was never supposed to be the nanny like it is now. The Church has failed its role...
  20. ...go figure! Isn't it to finally start seeing some light at the end of the tunnel? Which pill do you want? RED or BLUE
  21. Yep! All the necessary enzymes needed to digest the milk are already in the milk! Your sister could literally drink a whole gallon of raw milk and never experience the slightest side affect of lactose intolerance. I used to take the lactase drops and put 40 drops in a gallon of milk for my wife and let it sit for 2 days. The enzymes would work through the milk and break it all down. Which therefore allowed me to make my own "lactaid" milk for a fraction of the cost. About $3/gal vs $12/gal.
  22. You can't just be your own. You already reside in a state. The state has a defined territory. Are you in a city? The city has a defined territory. What things you could do is establish your own town. It would take some hoops, but it is possible. You need a few things to become a town/city, etc. There is like I have always thought about bigger cities and towns. People seem to get into this mindset and they no longer care about community. Most of the time smaller towns, cities, areas, communities all know each other, know whats going on, etc.I think population density is big problem. As far as telling govt. to go shove it, refer to W&F's video. Without awareness and a big realization, govt. gets away with the small things... We have to stand together, power in numbers. But we are too peppered aroud the country and people don't wan't their bubble popped. As long as their world is okay, life is good.Take the head outta the sand, remove the rose colored glasses, pop the bubble, turn off the tv.
  23. Lactase Drops ^You get about 300 drops on avg. per bottle. My wife takes about 5-8 on avg. depending on what she says and how much. You guys would be worlds ahead getting this instead. Because you can take it before having anything that contais dairy. Taking the pills or drinking the milk limits you and is expensive. Raw milk does not fix your intolerance. Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactose_intolerance The older you get the less your body produces the enzyme to break down the sugars. Raw milk has the enzyme already present in the milk to break the milk down. Therefore a person that does not produce any eyzmes in their body can always have RAW milk. As the enzyme is already present. As an infant most babies produce the enzyme necessary to break down the mothers breast milk to digest it. As you get older the body slows that down as we no longer breast feed.
