  1. Oh, I know they make 'em! Its just I dun have a plumber as a friend or know anyone who has one, nor have the cash to get one, lol. I might try the ol' mcgyver thing. See if I can fish a magnet down the exhaust on some stiff something.
  2. Okay, so, its been a little since I've been able to take some time and try and isolate this pesky noise. It was very pronounced today after getting on the skinny pedal for a little. It seems like its a noise thats amplified through harmonic vibration. It ended up continuing to produce this noise even after I put it into park. So I had a chance to jump out and try and track the noise down. Right off the bat, it was coming from under the truck. So, I took a walk-around and I believe I narrowed it down.My suspicion all along was that it was something to do with the exhaust. I was on the passenger side and I crouched down and put my boot on the exhaust, instantly, the noise went away. Took my boot off and it came back.Got under the truck when it was shut down and banged it with my fist. There is some sort of debris in the exhaust or some sort of inadvertent contact going on with the pipe that is causing the noise. The noise is most pronounced right before the U-bend going over the rear-end.I cannot think of how anything could be in there except for exhaust fins from the turbo. Either that, or when my exhaust guy was putting on the new run of pipe, his welding wire finally broke off on the inside.I don't believe I have ever pushed the truck hard and recently to cause a failure of the turbo of some sort.I sure wish I had a camera to stick down the pipe!
  3. I believe I'm using regular propane. Its a yellow bottle, but I'm pretty sure its propane and not MAPP gas. I was thinking I may of had a loose connection, too. I'll run it around for a little and see if I'm getting worse. If so, I'll order a new probe. I actually have not given her, "hell" much at all. Lately, I did some around town driving. Did not get warmed up even. Have not driven it much since then. If I WOT it, EGT's can get to 950 degrees on the flats. I can get to 1050 on the hills around here. But it is for a short duration... I need to get my trailer going for firewood, so hopefully I can tow that around soon. EDIT: The noise will be discussed in my thread.
  4. I swear, I have never had a vehicle that was so finnicky... ANOTHER, fluke! I broke down, was ready to order one online. I had to put the probe back in the hole to plug it, and I hooked it up one more time to see if the gauge would read. Just for Shiz's and giggles. Took the torch to the probe, looked at the EGT gauge, and it was around 700 degrees. ...what is this? Well, I guess I don't need to order one, yet! I also narrowed down the location of the noise...
  5. MIKE! How ya been my man! I believe I just confirmed your assumptions: I tracked down some info on testing the gauge and probe. I took the probe out and hooked up a DMM and tested on the Ohms side. It was reading less than 1 ohm at ambient temp. Took a torch and heated up the probe. Got a reading on it and watched the ohms fall as it cooled. Disconnected the probe leads and took a 9v battery and tested the gauge. Gauged pinned out at 1600 degrees. At this point, I was really confused. Took the probe and tested it separately. Torched the probe, no change in Ohms. 0 across the DMM. Probe is faulty. Surprises me though. Wonder why it would change in ohm value when it was connected to the gauge but did not change when separately. So, I'm extremely happy it was not my dipricol gauge. Looks like from more reading Dipricol is no longer in business. I did not want an odd gauge with my setup, lol. Ok, so what type of probe, and where? BTW, my EGT dipricol gauge is just a 2-wire lead for the probe. Does not have a box or anything extra, etc. --- Update to the previous post... Thanks for the info, man! So was I wrong in using ohms, or will it still work? I'm not sure if I my DMM measures milivolts. Its an auto ranging DMM. It has A/C and D/C selection though. I will TRY and see if I can get a video of the sound the truck is making. Its not a constant noise and only happens intermittently. I could definitely hear it coming from under the truck. Well, atleast I think so, cause the engine and exhaust make so much noise. It does not sound like it is coming from the engine per se. BTW, if my EGT gauge is "indexed" at the temp it sits cold, does that mean its really cooler than what it reads? --- Update to the previous post... okay.... so the rabbit hole is a little deeper... :banghead: http://forum.aempower.com/forum/index.php?topic=22888.0;wap2 I decided while I had a moment, I would test the probe with my DMM on the volt setting. The auto range was already on mV's. With the link above, using the values listed. I torched probe. At red hot, the probe was putting a mV value at about 1k to 1.2k mv range. Values slowly descended as the probe cooled. WTF!
  6. I'm not sure about what kind of gauge mine is. I know its a dipricol egt gauge. I can't find any info on dipricol and what kind of probe to use. I have been reading a little and some say check a ground to something. I dunno if this sort of thing applies to me though... I sure 'am worried about this noise that it makes on startup and shutdown and when it is idling in drive... ugh. :banghead: I sure can't afford an expensive repair right now! --- Update to the previous post... Okay, got some pics of my problemo. I checked the oil level just in case. Was good. The EGT gauge was not at zero, depsite sitting overnight. Removed the probe to inspect it to see if it broke. Although, it looks exposed. I suspect it happened when I pulled it out. When it went back in, some of it flaked off more. I tried to get video of the noise, but with my cell phone, it has crappy sound quality. So it was not even worth posting. I'm also wondering, could an injector leaking internally make the sort of noise? I could definitely hear the noise in the exhaust line. Has like a tinny noise. Or maybe valves need adjusted? I'm at a loss... I also inspected the turbo, un-offically. The shaft spun freely and did not feel like it had any play. I know it spooled up fine when previosuly driving it despite this noise.
  7. :banghead: Darn it all... I'm wondering if this issue is coinciding with my previous post on the paculiar rattling noise I was having. It seems my pyro gauge is no longer functioning... I dunno if it is the gauge itself or if it is the probe. My money is on it being the probe. I noticed when I got home from the grocery store that the pyro was at 150 degrees. No way I can ever drive light enough to get it that low. Engine idle does not even allow it to be that cool. So, I opened the hood, no apparent signs right off the bat. I had the driver door open and hood up. Cranked the engine, made a funny noise. Let it run for a second, to see if the inoperable gauge is just a fluke. Nothing. Shut it down and made a funny noise and louder sounding than when started. Can't quit place my finger on what it could be. Never heard such a noise. I have good oil pressure and my oil level is at the half-mark between full and fill. So it should not be bearings. Does not have a knocking type of sound... I have a theory. Tomorrow, I will have to inspect the turbo. I'm wondering if the pieces of the probe broke off and is in the exhaust pipe rattling around. Hoping that the debris did not cause a turbo failure? Is any of this plausible? What can I do to diagnose the pyro, and if it is the probe, where to get one? I could not space this whole thing into paragraphs either, sorry.
  8. Alright, so as the weather continues to get warmer, I find myself with the window down more and more. As nit picky as I'am I seem to get myself well-attuned to things when I use it or operate it enough.Well, as it may have it, my eagle ears picked up a paculiar noise. Performance wise, I do not seem to notice a difference. So my curiousity arouses me...Driving home at the 30mph limit, I noticed a sort of rattling. I can definitely hear it better when at a light stopped. So when I pulled up to my house and parked it, the noise went away. Put it back into gear, and the rattle noise came back. Put it into Park, and the noise goes away...ANYONE have any idea what it is?I was trying to think about what it could be and I remember something about a ratlle sort of noise from something called the TV cable?Could that be it?
  9. Yes, I agree. I also wish to squeeze every last drops worth out of the products I put into it to keep it running. Without sacrificing any longevity to the truck, of course. If I can get a bypass filter like the aforementioned and it allows me to go 75k miles on an oil change, per oil analysis, why not?
  10. No, I'm looking at doing this as a bypass filter. Is doing this tp filter as a bypass filter any good? Where do I get it at and how much? Also, does anyone run the centrifuge bypass filters? http://www.spinnerii.com/index.cfm/lev1/904/divId/78/Buy.Now!?process=prodList&category_id=1
  11. No sorry guys, this is NOT the rear seal. This is the crank seal having to do at the timing cover location.I'm gonna wait until I get laid off from my job in probably a couple weeks and will probably post up a thread on the subject...
  12. Kinda just doing whatever that gets me by.I do not have much to speak of since I'm just a young buck.Started out doing Glazing in the construction field when I got out of high school. Downturn of the economy caused me to be laid off from construction. Got into manufacturing for a little bit as spotty as it was. Worked in a lumber mill for a little bit. Too dangerous for my taste...Now, I'm trying to get back into Glazing as it seems like construction is picking back up a bit.Been a volunteer firefighter for the past year and going on a half. The sky is the limit... Would like to be a FF/Paramedic.
  13. ...buddy, IMO there is so much truth to what you said. I was thinking that this kind of thing is not such a far fetched thing as many people think. Seems like nowadays those days of being upright are over. Everyone is getting all cut throat... Simply put, I just thought maybe FF in the AF would have been a good idea... Sounds like I would be better off trying to do it as a civilian.
  14. As a kid I have always dreamed of flying. But not just flying anything. I'm talking about flying the fighter jets! I loved how they could be the big dog of skies. Growing up though, I started noticing that is not so much of a reality for me, haha. Although, if I could have ever gotten in and flown, I would definitely have tried to be an A-10 Warthog pilot. Those things are just too cool!Anyways, I was wondering if anyone here is in the Air Force, or has been recently. This may not even be a viable alternative for me, considering how things are going. But I figure this can't hurt to talk about. As we all know, finding work and staying busy is getting harder. In the last 3 years I have only worked about half of that time. Very spotty employment and not much to be said from it. Now, as things are seemingly getting slightly better, I was fortunate to get back to work after 7 months doing some work I did before the past 3 year ditch.I graduated high school early and went into construction. I'm a Glazier by trade and went down and worked on a year-long project. Got my foot in the door from it. Finished the job and went to a glass shop locally. Worked for them for 9 months before they went out of business. 3 years goes by and here I'am finishing the 3rd week of a projected 6 week long job.It may not even go that long. After this job is over, I'm pretty much a sitting duck, once again. :banghead:A fella I sold firewood to has partial ownership in a glass company. Would'nt you know it! He says he wants me to work for him and said he has about 2 years worth of work for me. Being the individual I'am I like to look at fallbacks. I'm hoping by the grace of God that this guy does hire me on and puts me to work that long. But if not, I was starting to seriously consider the whole Air Force thing. Why?Well, I'm doing this project out on a base, and seeing life on the base, is totally . I cannot help but feel an aspect of regret. To work on this building and seeing the things I see is just almost too much. KIDS at like the age of 5-8 are walking by THEMSELVES down the streets and they have not a thing to fear. People leaving things unlocked, and pregnant women taking their kids for walks with their dogs. Not having to worry about someone robbing here because of her handicap. Thinking about it more, the whole idea of having a house and the family able to live with you right there as you are working is GOLD!Almost all your expenses seem to be covered. What gets me the most, is I'm going on 24. I see people my age or so, with nice vehicles, having kids and being able to enjoy life without much worry. I definitely feel really bad about myself, because I get the feeling as though I'm failing as a husband for my wife. I can't even manage to hold a steady job enough to have the ability to move into a house. She wants kids, and I do too, but I can't look at it irresponsibly enough to say, "Lets have a kid, when I do not have any way to support it"!I dunno, call me shallow fellas, or judge me as if I should be more thankful, etc. But to see these people going on in life, seemingly having it "made" is soo temtping. When I see the neighborhoods there, it reminds of how I would have imagined it back when my parents were kids. Block parties, kids out on the street playing, even after dark!Anyways, now that I have my excuses put to the side, I was considering the air force, not only for all these perks or fringe benefits, but they offer positions as being a Firefighter. Some of you know, I'm already a volunteer with my local dept. I was thinking that being a FF in the AF would be the ticket! I got to watch the firetrucks on base pass by and thought, thats it, right there!I here its a pretty difficult position to obtain, but if there is a will, there is a way! Anyone have any idea about this position in the AF? Seems like it would be a very rewarding thing to do!The wife is a very cautious lady when it comes to any involvement in the military. Don't get me wrong, she would die for the troops, herself is she had the chance. Its more of the chew you up and spit you back out type of thing she is worried about. She has family who have had that very experience. Just dunno how many others experience that one......I must have typed a book by now!

Where do you hail from exactly, my man!?You could be a hop, skip and a jump away from me!
  16. So, I can't find it anywhere anymore, but I thought I saw a thread on here talking about using toilet paper in an oil filter container. Anyone know about it and if so, is it still available?
  17. Not sure about the ability for access or if it can be done...You sound like you are gonna need a drill bit, ez out and a way to get a reading for thread pitch.hope you saved the head to the screw. Get the broken piece out with the ez out and put the head to the screw and see if it is possibly a typical screw at the hardware store...If not, you are gonna need to probably get a machine shop to make you one...BTW, look at getting one in a higher grade as well. Would be less prone to breaking...
  18. Okay guys, I could not find the thread on the topic of the 911 forum, but, I suppose this is appropriate enough.I noticed a flaw about this idea...Its nice that we have this 911 forun going and all.BUT, I gave it a thought for a second while I was driving...How 'am I gonna get ahold of someone if there is an emergency and I want to see if someone is in the area or get on the forum? There is only a couple of solutions, and maybe it has already been addressed.1. Pre-plan your potential contacts if you are going through that persons said area.2. Have a data phone3. Have a laptopAnd hope that with solution 2 and 3 you will have enough reception to access the information on the forum...What 'am I missing?
  19. Yep, thats why I love Idaho. Great country to live in!Mike, you gotta hike it, not quad! Talk about a finger and foot workout...Did you do that dam in manual labor or did you have some machinery? That would have given you a heck of a good few days of working out.
  20. DUUUDE! Well, the texans can forget about worrying about a drought this summer, lol.
  21. Okay, need a little clarification...OEM tire size lists at:245/75/R16 on my b pillar stickerI have 285/75/R16's on the truck and have had them since I got the truck.I went and did it on a calcu-mutilator and it says I go 55.6 mph with my current size compared to going 60 with OEM size.I cannot remember how this correlates to my actual speed and what the speedo says. And believe it or not, 4 areas I go through list all my speeds differently when I pass their speed sign/radars.I get them either saying I'm going 7 over or some say I'am going actual speed or going 3-5 over. Its confusing!IIRC, this should mean I'm going 60mph when my speedo says I'm going 55-56mph, right?
  22. Well, I suppose no one here is interested in this much? No replies... :banghead:Okay, so maybe if someone does have any wisdom on this, I need help. If pictures are needed I can muster them up.I went to O'reilly's and had to buy another timing cover gasket set. It has the crank seal in the package amongst other things needed for the timing cover set. Its a better price than buying the seal itself. Also comes with a lifetime warranty, when you remember to keep the receipt! Its a fel-pro kit. It has the crank seal, and a metal thing and a plastic sleeve. The instructions are very vague.Instead of buying a speedi-sleeve kit from cummins, they offered one at half the price. It also allows me to use a stock size seal. I think the cummins sleeve does not allow you to use the stock size sleeve.I'm reaalllly confused about what goes on the crank for sealing it... Does anyone have any idea??????I was reading some stuff earlier, and I dunno if previously I did not use all the parts needed to do the crank seal, or if it was just too much blowby going on when my injectors were no good. It does not seem that it is leaking from the area very much. If I let the truck sit overnight in a spot, there will not even be any drips on the ground, but I can smell burnt oil when I park after driving, though.
