Towing - MPG/HP - advice
like a manual in 4th! i took my exhaust off this weekend because i was towing. i honestly don't know if it was the fuel or the exhaust...but even with pulling 120+ miles this is shaping up to be the highest mpg in my truck so far. the flying j's card reader was busted so i went to loves. their pumps said it contains 5%-20% bio. to my knowledge this is the first time my truck has had a bio blend. i will say that no muffler is LOUD!

Best online spot for OEM lift pump and Oil question
i think the "increase power and efficiency" is only if the pump you are replacing is not providing the proper fuel rates to your injection pump. mine was barely moving ANY fuel. when i installed my airdog, i gained a lot of power. all OE power, but because of proper fueling i recovered all the factory power my truck had. it made little difference on engine sound. because of location, i could always hear the factory lift pump in the cab. i cannot hear the airdog in the cab when the truck is running. the only reason i got the 150 over the 100 is they were the exact same price.

Big line question
that is how i have mine plumbed. i believe mopar1973man's fuel system is that way also. remember that the VP44 has a fuel temp sensor, and it uses it to adjust timing. perfect practice makes everything goes smooth/fast:cool: i am so jealous! my personal best is 18.0MPG! thats with 2stroke and 90% highway @55-65mph empty. i typically get 14-16.:banghead:

Clutch Install
i bought this jack: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=39178 : from steve's wholesale tools for ~$65 2 years ago. it works great. the only thing is i usually have to take the tranny off the jack before it comes out from under the vehicle(i don't get them high enough in the air). when it is a 4x4, i usually have a friend help. seems like transfer case is small but HEAVY! i usually put a piece of cardboard down, so when i take the trans off the jack i can slide the card board across the ground with the trans(helps with low clearances)

Quadzilla XZT issue.
i reset my apps (and cleaned those terminals up) and noticed a little extra "umph" from the seat of my pants. before it "had no power" below 2k rpms. now it is smooth through the band. i will mention that when i jumped into the cab, i had to set the time on the radiio. i started programing the stations (since the radio started on am), but they were still programed! i have to wait to check obd values as i don't have a laptop or dyno.:banghead:as far as finding someone to check your volts... i have always hated chasing peoples ghosts....not everyone is like this example, but some people get a hunch, even if its not right, and will not accept logic. you can explain that _____ passed every test possible, but because they read something on the internet, their daddy always said, they were in the biz for years and KNOW, (insert BS excuse here). and won't except that the problem is else were. because of a few annoying people, i avoid problems like that. it is far easier to fix things that are broken than to chase electrical. i am not saying you are the example...i mean that because of people like that, i avoid that work. when your independent, time is money:2cents:

Clutch Install
from what i understand, the fuss is about the synchros. they are made of carbon fibre. they want a GL-4 lube to minimize corrosion to yellow metals. they went on to say gl-5/mt-1 have higher amounts of what causes yellow to corrode.

CCD Data Bus
just an update to what i have learned. my 99 ram connects using ISO J9141-2. that is a standard obd2 protocol and gives you basics parameters that any generic scan tool can use(assuming it can use j9141-2). you can read and clear DTCs and check certain parameters, such as: rpm, ect, iat, map, tp, and so on. it seems my 99 does not have as many parameters you can monitor compared to the gas motors i have seen. it seems that the more data you try to monitor, the longer it takes to update the information. this probably caused by the low baud rate.the CCD is not an open standard. under normal circumstance you need a drb3 scan tool. it is my assumption that a CCD controller could be modified to out put all data on the bus. here is my rough analogy:you have antenna/basic cable in room A and B. the signal comes from the ______ to a splitter. all the signal is split into 2 feeds(but the same). the tv in room A is watching the ballgame. that tv is tuned to a specific frequency(only looking a specific signal in the whole band and ignore to ones in is not interested in). the tv in room B is watching a soap opera. it is receiving the same signal the tv A is receiving, but is only interested in a small segment of the signal. you can flip the channel. the picture changes(ie what you are monitoring), but the signal remains the same.that is multiplex 101. i am still experimenting. if anyone has anything they would like to add, please do so, as it might help in my investigations.

Scan Guage II
in my experiments with the ccd i have found that it is not a typical obd2 protocol. for scangauge to work with as many vehicle they will use the 5 main standards. here is more info on that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obd2#OBD-II except for the CAN bus (limited to newer vehicles), obd2 is slow. that is why the data from my highway drives is choppy.http://forum.mopar1973man.com/showthread.php/1275-data-from-my-drive-on-the-highway the more stuff i monitor, the slower the refresh rate is. you can only send so much data in a (insert unit of measurement). it seamed my 99 connected using ISO 9141-2, with a 10.4k baud. i think our application of the CCD uses 60k-70k baud. also i think that the CCD is proprietary tech while OBD2 protocols are standards.

Quadzilla XZT issue.
welcome dobienut, i have also noticed that my 99's apps doesn't ever read 0% at idle. i also notice that i never get to 100% this thread has links to the spreadsheets(there are 3 highway drives)http://forum.mopar1973man.com/showthread.php/1275-data-from-my-drive-on-the-highway. if i get a nice enough day, i am going to reset my apps. have you tried resetting yours?http://mopar.mopar1973man.com/cummins/2ndgen24v/apps/apps.htm

i hope i quit playing that game. i can tell you from experience that my pump moves at least 1 gallon in ~30sec:woot:, but that's another story.

Just lost my 500 GB hard drive...
i am truly sorry. by priceless i kinda meant like family pics, home videos, stuff that cannot be replaced. last wednesday, during my wife's first "format and fresh install" she forgot to back up ALL the pics,vids....we lost all the pics of christmas/newyears from 09. she was crushed as it was jr's first christmas...to make matters worse, i told her to do the write 0's command...those suckers are gone! apps can be re downloaded and work may reclaim 1000s of man hours, but sometimes a collection of binary can irreplaceable:2cents:.

Safe fuel pressure
its kinda funny. no one votes for less than 10 psi. the farmer i bought the truck from said he kept a fuel filter under the seat. when he was pulling, it would lose power. he would pull over and change it. it even had one under the seat when i bought it. then one day i lost power. since i already had a filter in the truck, i pulled over and changed it. when i was filling up the cann, i bumped the starter 3 times...and still only had 1/3rd of it full! thats when i knew something wasn't right. that is when i stumbled across one of mopar1973man's post about 10psi min. i thought, "DUH, i wonder how long its been like this". the strange thing is that OE lift pumps can be crap out of the box. the auto part guy said "they(the manufacture) can't test them...other wise they would have fuel in them when you get it."

Just lost my 500 GB hard drive...
yeah...it SUCKS when they go...i have a drawer full of bricks...i check the smart status once every 2 weeks. i have 2 drives(300,and 180) that are very health expect for the continuous run hours. my manufacture specs, these drives are near the end of life. because they test so high is proformance and health i am reluctant to take them outta service, but have moved the most important stuff to another drive just incase. sorry to hear your loss. i hope that you didn't lose priceless data.

Clutch Install
use what ever you want. the only way we can learn is by trying. but what i have read is that the transmission becomes "hard to shift" and sometimes "noisy" if you use anything other than the OEM fluid....now that said, some people have had success with other brands(namely, amsoil and royal purp). if you do try something new, please share the results with us. cause $25 a quart is awful!

Slight shutter when turning
by "axle seals" do you mean axle shafts...or pinion? if it is the shafts seal...you may not have to pull the carrier. i don't have a front axle...but i believe that you will need specialty tools to change the bushings and seals. as for pulling the carrier...remember that the preload is set by the shims...so make sure they go back where the came from!(extremely important! if you don't have R&P tools). the pinion its self probably uses a crush sleeve. it is a one time use. you need to get another before you replace the pinion seal. i know a little bout ring and pinions...let me know if you need more info

What EGT's do you all run?
i know what you mean....it seems i can coast as far as my accord, unlike my ranger. i go into nuetral and i might as well put the ebrake on! i think the rangers wind resistance starts effecting things at ~37mph. my dodge coasts huge distances at 55:)
