I changed the oil in my 05 and in one day it was just as black as it was before I changed it. Thinking of running for a few days and drain again. Before I add Amsoil.I run Amsoil in my 01 and it stays clean for about4-5k before turning black. Why would the oil in the 05 turn black so fast?

I realize it depends on your comfort, skill level and bank account and there are folks that do everything themselves. Shoot, If you watch "you tube" the sky is the limit (and some stuff is even accurate) I am new to the diesel world, have an 04 but, what make sense to have done vs do myself? Just curious

I have an 04.5 ram with this exh. in place....CAT back [for now at least] all 4'' piping w/ 24'' flo-pro strait through muffler & pipe exits at back, right side. At 1800 to 2300 rpms, at med+ throttle i have drone! At idle, the exh. has a full, throaty sound, plenty noise for me. expecily when backed up to a building where sound bounces off. The under hood noise is much better then 2nd gen, but exh. [while diff.] is still THERE if wanted to be! Tell me what works for you! i have thought about adding the 2nd muffler or adding a 'twister' . I dont know how much the CAT helps [if at all] the CAT could be replaced w/ a twister....... I'M ALL EYES!!!!! …

I started my 05 this morning and went back in the house to let it warm up some. I can hear it when the grids kick in and out, anyway after the grids where done it went to high idle all on it's own. Is this stock feature? So I get in truck and give accelator a tap like you would a carborator gas eng and it idles down so then I back out and set in the drive and it starts high idle again. Anyway I drive about 60 miles to pick up a load of pipe and while I am being loaded it goes into high idle again. The nose is pointed to the north and it's cold about 32 and I had been setting about 10-15 min. When I got back to truck it had idled back down.I am still suspicious that this t…

Hi all, First post on MoparMan's site but I have been reading this forum and many of his threads from diesel resource for quite some time. First things first a little background on the truck. The truck is a 2004.5 SLT, I do not have a lift pump it has been converted to in tank fuel pump, it's a CP3 injector pump system. I run a Edge CTS on setting 3, Timbo APPS installed last October, Transmission was rebuilt less than 2,000 miles ago, batteries were replaced at the beginning of October. If any other info is needed just let me know. Now down to the problem at hand when I went to pick my truck up after the transmission rebuild my batteries were shot so I bought 2 1…

I have just aquired a S06POD. i programed my 04. to software 3. drove it a few miles. not much of a differnace. not what i was expecting anyhow. then went to sw9. now down low i see very little differance, but mid throttle it jumps and runs nice. I'm compairing this to my older 02. i had an edge comp on that one. and lemme tell you, when you load the skinny peddle it'd set you back in the seat, it pulled hard. this truck even on 9 i don't feel pulls all that hard. i get very little black smoke. i have not adjusted my waste gate. as i have yet to learn how (pointers welcome). before i get flamed to much, i do not have gauges as of yet. i do not know what my rail pr…

So I saw the 2nd gen thread and wanted to play... What's the 3rd gen crowd doing for maintenance/mods this springs?Personally I am doing the following next weekend. Yukon Free Spin HubsDynatrac Ball JointsBilstein ShocksBilstein Steering StabilizerMaxx Links Sway Bar end linksDR Pro Fab Steering StabilizerNew front axle u-joints, AAM most likely. My shocks are starting to show signs of wear and my BJ's are still "within OEM spec" but I want to get this stuff done before I have to and it costs me down time from family fun. At 86K miles my OEM sealed bearings seem to be fine, but I am not taking any chances. I may also get a Max Brake trailer brake controller this spring, b…

So as we all know the intake air temps get low enough in winter to hinder fuel economy and idle combustion efficiency. I have a winter front the helps out quite a bit, but I think they could stand being a little warmer. I generally block off my home depot CAI in winter to keep snow/moisture from entering the airbox and maybe run a little warmer air. I have been considering adding a 2" deck plate on the engine side of the air box. Close it in the summer when I don't want engine air, and open it in the winter when it's a good thing. I considered a 3" opening because my HD CAI is 3" and the plug would work for both, but not sure I want/need that much hot en…

What; if any, maintenance should I do on MightyWhitey at or around 200k?? Sitting at 196,1xx now, and have a few trips lined up for the near future. I did my normal yearly maintenance a month ago prior to my NoDak trip.I've NEVER done a...................valve lash adjustment, fully bled the power steering, coolant/water pump change, injector change, radiator hose change-out, and prolly some more that I cannot think of right now. She's running good and getting good mileage.:thumb1:What say y'all??!!

Ive got an 06 5.9 cummins auto, owned it for a little over a year now. First 5k miles, it used a little bit of oil, maybe top of safe to middle section, so lets say 1.5 quarts?. I have a leaking front crank seal(only visible oil leak), so I assumed it to be that. I didnt care, wasnt using enough for me to worry at this point. Previous owner had no issues, and was using Lucas long drain 15w-40 synthetic. I changed the oil back in april to Rotella T6(5w-40) since the lucas stuff wasnt available in the area I lived. Truck started mysteriously consuming more oil, no leaks visible anywhere on engine. I havent done a proper compression check on it, but the ones you can …

Im bout due for an oil change. i usually run VPB 5/40. but the only place in town that has it is 28.?? a gallon. the local tractor supply has rotella T6 5/40 for 19.?? gallon. but that are all sold out. so with my new LF9028 extended service oil filter. i'm thinking amsoil at a total of 130$ something or VPB for about 96$ right now i run about 7500-8K miles on my oil. it still looks good not to black. i'll do a sample and send to blackstone at time of change. but i need to buy oil... what to buy? i have at my disposal Travelers, super tech, valvoline, rotella, mystic. i know clean oil is good. but i don't want to be throwing hard earned cash away if a better oil …

I have read and heard of people using pre-filters on their air cleaners. But have yet to fine anything in forums. I travel cross country each year and have been in very dirty environments. Like my trip last year. I drove through Texas, New Mexico and a part of Arizona ... when somewhere in Texas was on fire and the farmers were plowing for their planting. The debris in my air cleaner was black and mostly blocked it. I have a reusable filter and all I did was take the time to clean it and on the road again. If it was paper, I would be changing it out each time it was plugged, until I was out of the area. It was bad on I40 then.Has anyone used a pre-filter before ?If so, wh…

Well stay tuned folks, My best Bud has an 03 long box quad cab 4X4 4:10 gears with auto and 115K miles with edge EZ and no gauges, in the last couple months he was asking about an oil leak coming from the top of his valve cover, I told him to look at the breather and replace it, he did and it kept on and oil use was getting worse now and he thinks he has more blowby than usual, So with the lack of time for me to look and help him out his dad who has an 05 cummins just borrowed my trailer and hauled it to a diesel shop which prides themselves in Cummins, I know him personally and referred him up there versus a Dodge dealer which he took it to and they didn't even want to t…

What's the consensus on "back pressure" in our diesels? I hear they don't need back pressure and it makes no difference. It seems my 2007 has more low end torque with the cat installed when on stock tune than when I remove the cat. It seems very sluggish on take off as it the turbo needs time to spool in order to get the truck rolling. In higher RPMs it seems stronger though? In order to gain back that low end torque I have to tune it. Why is this so? I need to replace my exhaust and as much as I want to go with 5" for lower EGTs and better sound, I'm afraid it's going to hurt my performance. My truck is stock and I don't want to throw a tune on it and put other parts …
