3rd Generation Dodge

This is a discussion forum of the 2003 to 2009 3rd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L and 6.7L Common Rail Cummins Turbo Diesel power train and drive line system.

  1. Anyone have any pointers or tool suggestions for splitting the NVG 271D/F tcase housing? I am about to tackle one this weekend. I've done about 4 or 5, but I always struggle with getting the halves to split. Is there a tool or something I can make that will go between the lugs on the halves, to spread the pieces apart? I've always used a hammer, punch, wood, whatever I can get my hands on to beat them apart.. I'd like maybe a simpler solution. Thanks.

Hello guys,, SUMMARY OF Drive: 4WD chain-driven selectable / electronic operation 4WD Engine: 5.9L, 24V common rail Cummins turbo diesel / 6.7L, 24V CR CTD Suspension: a nearly lost cause (more to come) Features: a LOT of power Walker Texas Ranger. 3. Trying to rebuild a 6.7L in an 08. Been trying to get rod and main bearings, head gasket set, lower gasket set, and rings.. Been trying since June. Everyone lists parts as "available", but when you order, suddenly, there's no inventory... Apparently, Clevite 77, Mahle, etc, are hoarding their Cummins stock for some reason.. It's aggravating as hell..

  5. We've got a 2008 MCSB 6.7L G56 with electric tcase. We had tons of issues with the 4WD over the past couple years with the transfer case shifting. After a few replaced decoder motor replacements, I said 'eff it' and swapped the 273 for a 271 from an 07 model. I put the floor shifter in, linkage, etc. 4WD works flawless now, and have had zero issues, since.. With the exception of the SERV 4WD light on (for obvious reasons). This has been the case since day 1 of the swap. So I thought "what if I just stick the motor from the original 273 under there, tie it up, and plug it in?" Nope. Still on. No Codes on my scanner to clear, so IDK what's happenin…

  6. So I thought I was getting a really great deal on a truck so I thought the batteries took a crap so replaced them then the crimp on the end of the wire from the alternator to the battery broke I twisted back up and now started the truck wire started smoking and I had 19v on my passenger side battery shut the truck off so I removed the alternator and took it to 2 different parts stores tested it 10 times on each machine passed every time it's a Bosch with the Chrysler logo some I'm thinking its original? But anyways I'm thinking that what I've read the computer controls the voltage regulator and charging system but you can add in a in line regulator and I'm hoping this wil…

Is it possible to pull an automatic headlamp switch and sun load sensor from a 2005+ Dodge Dakota and install it into my 2007 Dodge Ram 3500? I know the switch is an exact fit and the wire pin out is the same but I don’t know if the sun load sensor can be used in conjunction to make the system a working automatic headlight system. I am wondering and hoping that it may be an easy upgrade like adding fog lights with the preexisting wiring. I know that there is always the option of installing the 545T Nite-Lite aftermarket automatic headlight system, but I would rather use the factory switch with the “A” setting. I know that a lot of people don’t care…

  8. My truck is a 06 2500 (5.9l with 48RE) with 260k on the body and transmission. New, rebuilt, long block was put in under 1k miles ago. The codes that it threw first, 3 hours into the drive, were P1749 and P1740. Transmission Throttle Valve Position Sensor circuit low and TCC solenoid failure. The truck continued on the interstate without any major shifting or cruising issues so I decided to let it ride out the other 5 1/2 hours home. This morning I checked the codes again and now I'm also getting the P1222, bad injectors, P2509 and P0483, bad fan clutch assembly, and P0868, transmission pressure line low. I've read that seve…

On my 2006 Cummins 6 speed truck is bone stock just straight piped it has a slight lope at idle no white smoke and when driving the truck blows a little bit of black smoke and in higher gears it seems to loose power . I’m thinking it’s the pressure relief valve or the fca but some insight would help. Truck isn’t making oil or losing mpg

Hi everyone, I’m about to pull the trigger on a 2006 dually. One the dually fenders is loose and has started to rub the paint off of the sheet metal. My question is, are they bolted on with regular bolts or are the fasteners formed into the fiberglass? I’m just trying to figure out the cure to replace the loose fasteners. Thanks for any help!

  13. New used to me, I acquired a Florida truck with 170 on the clock and an overhauled engine its an 03 3500 5.9 diesel 4x4 auto dually crew cab obviously long bed, (not I but someone towing heavy overheated the engine) it showed up to my mechanic on a flat deck who sold it to me for 12k after he did all the work. Question is did I buy the wrong truck? I bought the truck to use as a company hauler and I spend a lot of time off of improved road surfaces,(tows a 25k lb construction barge alot) first trip out the front end articulated enough to abraid a transmission cooler line causing a major leak, and time set back due to trucks location at time of failure and availab…

  19. I'm stuck probably going to need a tow. Here's the deats 03 3500 dually mostly stock besides air cleaner muffler delete. Problem started as slow cranking condition so I replaced the batteries and got no where come to testing the starter I find that to be over drawing. Went to make it home so I tried to restart the truck. Long short cranked super slow then I heard a pop and the truck is completely dead red light on the dash ( it's on the upper left side of the coolant temp gauge)no interior lights no nothing. At this point I have verified voltage at 13.45 even on both batteries checked the fuses to find again no resolve at this point for the las…

Well after extensive “research” and two new APPS or TPS sensors I believe I have finally found the culprit. It turned out to be the connector itself. As I was searching for grounds I noticed that the pins in the connector were loose and moved around just a bit. After finding no short to grounds I decided to remove the pins and expand them a bit. Put it all together and it actually allowed me to clear the codes this time. Just took a short drive and it seems to be just fine! Has anyone else seen this problem and does anyone know where to get quality pigtail connectors? This was on my 04.5 2500 6spd.
