This is a discussion forum of the 1998.5 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins 24 Valve Turbo Diesel power train and drive line system. This includes all sub-system including wiring, fuel, oil, exhaust, air, transmission, computers and sensors.

  2. So Mike let me come hes selective about that ;) Lots been going on. Picked up a f150 to drive while my truck was down but ended up giving it to my daughter. So i was out a daily driver stuck driving our work truck a 04 cummins. My tourque convertor went out with 170k on it. So i bought one local after seeing the guts they put inside The convertor in my truck was supposed to be low stall it was stock, didnt have a one peice fiber, it wasnt brazzedd for support basically the cheapest thing you could get So i got a lower stall billet piston brased, one peice fiber, reamed for more volume. …

  3. I'm working on the truck in my sig. After installing all my upgrades last fall (pac brake, hx 35/40, 100 hp injectors, quad unit), I haven't been able to get over about 25lbs of boost even with the set screw in the boost elbow turned all the way in. Today I put a vice grip on the hose and saw a bit over 30ps of boost on a full throttle acceleration. Where in the adj process do I check the actual wastegate actuator setting/position? Its possible correct, to maybe need to adjust the length of the actuator rod? Also, I bought the manual boost controller shown by Mike in another post and have yet to install it. Mike, the red end goes towards the elbow correct?

    Alright, I am trying to work through an idea of mine in regards to lockup. What I am trying to do is figure out how to predict the 1-2 shift and predict the 2-3 shift. So the question I have is what happens to make the VB decide, Time to shift into 2nd. and what happens in the vb to shift from 2-3. Is it a pressure difference between the tv and vb pressure? I don't really understand what happens in the rats nest of a VB. So is there something I can watch VIA a pressure switch or whatever to show that the trans is going to shift? Can someone smarter than me explain the magic of how a 47re shifts in low gears? Reason I am t…

    I might have made a mistake in my build purchase. First and foremost, I've got to deal with CA smog checks. It was mentioned to me that techs were now looking for Holset being listed on turbos. I know this is dependent on individual techs and most would not even bother. I'm pretty sure the place I go, this wouldn't be an issue. But you never can tell when this would change. I really gave a hard look at this "Super 9" a local company builds . I'm second guessing my decision not to go with this. I don't really care about HP numbers. I care about towing a 10k lb travel trailer through mountain passes. I have a mildly built auto, 3.55's running 265/70/17 Michelin's. I'll like…

    I had a bad MAP maybe 2 or 3 months ago so ordered a SMP MAP from Rock along side the long steering joint, long story short, the steering joint bashed a hole in the box and on arrival no MAP, it had simply fallen out somewhere in the well over 3kmiles to get to me, to be fair Rock sent a replacement straight away, actually within the very same day as the delivery day, cured the no boost problem no bother Fast forward 2 or 3 months and the same deal, intermittant no boost then everything all good for a indetermined time then no boost and NO power I have been running my quad on LVL1 stock with boost fooling due to the damn cost of fuel here in the uk, order…

  8. I have a 2000 Ram 3500 Cab & Chassis NV4500. When I got the truck, it had a P-pump converted big turbo 24v built for pulling in it, but I bought the truck and not the engine. I pulled that engine and bought a wrecked 1999 dodge 2500 that ran fine but they needed the VP44 off the engine. So I did the engine swap on this truck, pulled the p-pump motor out and put the stock 2000 engine in it. I used the ECM from the 5 speed truck I currently have and a new VP44. I put a new MAP sensor, APPS, and IAT on the engine while it was out to make things easier. The problem that I have, is that the engine goes into a "limp mode" or defuels.     So I scored a vgt turbo off a 6.7 that hopefully will perform better than my current turbo(it's too big for the truck, and requires waaaaaaaaaaay too much fuel and timing to light off before 2500 rpm) but I need an adapter to bolt it to my current setup. What adapter will I need? I've been trying to find one but no dice. And yes, I have a computer to run the vgt. If anyone is interested I can possibly point you to the gentleman who made the computer kit(you have to solder it but it's not hard) and how to set it up.

  10. Hey guys, wondering if I’m on the right track here. While towing up hill and heavy on the pedal, my throttle started to flutter in and out. It only seemed to happen under higher engine load and it was really hot outside. I cycled through a few different power settings on my qudzilla adrenaline and made no difference until I turned the tuner off and it seemed to go away. I read on another post I could be a timing issue? But here is a list of possible conflicting factors: -just replaced my injectors and turbo. I was wresting with a hard start issue for a while.   11. Good evening all, Huge fan of this forum, it's taught me a lot about working on my truck and I'm hoping I can get some help pinpointing a problem. I've got a 99 24V 4WD with an NV4500 5 spd manual transmission, about 325K miles, bought it about 4 years ago with 272K miles. Over the last weekend I replaced the injectors with some Bosch 75hp, I replaced the crossover tubes with new ones while I was in there, all with new o-rings and new copper washers, and I also adjusted the valves.     So I been listening to my fan clutch staying locked in for weeks even when Its cool out and it sounds like a jet trying to take off. So I go get a new one this morning and same thing. I dont get it. My old truck didnt have this issue. My old truck you could hear it when it reached a hot temp it would lock in. I dont think the old clutch did this in the winter I would have noticed. I stayed on the throttle up to 3k rpm and it still locked in.

Hey guys, I was towing up hill today and somehow the wire harness that runs horizontally across the front frame cross member underneath the radiator fan came loose and got sucked into the fan. 13 wires got shredded. I replaced three blown fuses and managed to splice everything back together and got everything working (headlights, turn signals, hazards, windows, overhead display, etc.) EXCEPT my Power lock function. The unlock works on the driver side and passenger door but not unlock. i’ve been looking for about two hours now for a wiring diagram and can’t seem to find one for that harness. does anyone have any input on what I should try or…

  14. I noticed an oil leak that came from coolant overflow tank, mechanic says oil cooler ruptured and both systems are contaminated and I have "sludge" in both systems. How did my engine get torpedoed by a non maintenance part, I don't understand???!!     I did my valve lash yesterday while doing an oil change. This is the second time doing the procedure. I put the engine at TDC and did my adjustments, adjusting all the valves that were loose and that I could jiggle. I put the engine at BDC and started on the next set. While doing these I looked up the procedure on here to find out what the torque setting was for the jamb nuts and I noticed that one of the valves was loose (I could jiggle it) that wasn't on the list of valves to adjust while at BDC. I finished up adjusting the valves that should of been adjusted and rotated the engine back to TDC and checked the valves and there was one that was loose that shouldn't b…

  17. The truck I'm working on has the Cumins 5.9 24 valve engine. My question is about the Diagnostic Trouble Codes. I'm scanning with the AutoEnginuity, PC based scan tool, with the enhanced Chrylser / Dodge software. I've attached the DTC Report. THIS ENGING HAS HAD THE VP44 PUMP REPLACED WITH A P7100 PUMP. I know some codes are a result of that swap. Each of the DTC "P" codes includes a description, Status, Good Trip counts, and Starts Since Failed. Each corresponds to a code that can be found in the FSM (factory service manual) as well as many other documents. The "Freeze Frame" information is confusing.     Where does the EJWA pick up the fuel temperature? I hadn't driven my truck for 2 days and went to start it up this morning. It was 32 degrees outside and the fuel temp was showing 41 degrees. After a few mins of idle and scraping the windows I started driving and the temp was showing 64 degrees. Is this read from the fuel in the VP44?

    I’m getting a recurring P1688 controller failure on my VP44. However, it’s easily cleared and the truck runs just fine. Could it just be the PSG is slow to boot up? Codes: 1688, 1693 companion Code reading/clearing method: Edge JwA Two scenarios 1. Turn the key on, 1688 is active, clear it, then start the truck without ever turning the key off. CEL never reappears as long as the truck is kept running. Idle is 800 RPM, idle load is 5% with new RV275s from DAP. The 1688 will never come back until the truck is turned off and back on.     Do you need to remove all the injector lines to remove the intake plate? I was looking at the Crazy Carls intake plate in the store and says it installs in about an hour. I know if I have to remove the injector lines it will take a lot longer than an hour.
