  1. thank you for looking, this is my first post after joining this forum. I have owned this CTD for a few months after purchasing it from a private seller and is my first diesel. my problems currently have started with loaning the truck to my younger brother to take to school. He left the lights on all day and came back to a dead truck. I believe while having jumper cables hooked up he was able to crank it over but had no start. it is cold but i filled with winter blend the night before, no gauges installed yet but i have a FASS titanium. my brother determined the alternator was bad (not sure how), it was bench tested as 'good' from O' Rileys although they do not te…

Instead of starting a new thread I figured I would try here...... I picked up a snow plow for a friend the other night. It was about a 20 minute ride and the temp got a little over 190* possibly right around 210*-220* , and the outside temp around 45-55*. I've already relocated the puke bottle and cleaned the radiator. Just wondering if anybody has run into this ,although when it is cold enough to snow I have a feeling this may not happen.

How important is cool down before shutting down your truck? What is that number and the amount of time it takes? I think I heard there is a gadget you can buy where you turn off the key but the truck stays running for a couple minutes... ?

So my daily finally left me stranded. For starters my WTS has always been sluggish to come on when starting the truck. It would not start until WTS light came on. Would crank and crank unless I waited for light. I figured it was a good habit anyways. On my way to work Saturday I noticed my headlights were dimming on and off, pretty abnormal because ambient temp was mid 40s and truck started like normal. After getting to work, I drove the truck 5 to 6 times to get tools with no problems at all. Finally getting geared up to go home, wait for WTS, light comes on, so I crank and get nothing. Now have no WTS and no start. Fuel pressure is at 18lbs. Code reade…

I replaced my alternator and belt recently and since then I've noticed a weird voltage issue when I start up the truck first thing in the morning. When I first turn on the key voltage comes up to 12V. As the engine cranks it drops momentarily to 8.5-10V, then when the engine is running voltage returns to about 11.5V. It stays there for 10-15 seconds until then the alternator pulls it up to 14V. Then the voltage (and the engine to a lesser extent) starts surging between 12.5 and 14V. This continues for a couple minutes and then things even out where they should be (about 14.5V).I'm confused!

It’s time to replace the VP44 on my 01 HO 6 speed. I’ve been doing a lot of research on different pumps and suppliers. I’m taking the advice of Mopar Man and have decided to go with a DAP remanded pump. my question is are the “Hot Rod” pumps worth the extra coin? I will be upgrading my injections to 7x.010’s from DAP at the same time. I do not have any tuners on the truck.

Got a brake switch in yesterday to replace the OEM unit. The brake lights were stuck on, one night and killed my batteries. Before I read the instructions, I looked at the switch. I rotated the lever on the outside not thinking anything of it. Then I read the instructions... Supposedly by doing that before installing the switch it's no good. But I took it apart afterwards and don't understand why? Anyone know what's up? It just looks like an adjustable plunger. The internals are not complicated or sensitive. What gives.

2001 24v 5spd 4x My truck struggled to start slightly and clunked at 2K rpms in second pretty loudly and before I could pull off it did it again 1800 rpms in 3rd this time my headunit, trailer brake controller went off and back on and my lights started doing the rave party flash. Shut the truck off, checked my battery terminals everything looked cherry started it back up no issues. About 5 mins from home my gauge lights started flickering and my volt gauge spiked to 18. I had a battery terminal that was suspect and new batteries sitting around so I tossed them in, wire brushed the connections. 2 weeks of perfect driving and today it happened again, skip in second, ha…

Problems Truck will start and idle fine but will surge/buck inconsistently with throttle/load Codes p 1475 p0522 p0122 p 1295 p 0237 p 1488 and the companion code. Alternator ac noise seamed good <.03 No wait to start light but truck has a grid heater delete block on it not shure if it was installed "correctly" Probably is ecu but I'm going to check out the 5v system just to check. I did notice temp sensor was spliced thinking wires might be swapped? Grounding out the circuit Truck seamed to behave b…

on my 99 dodge p pumped truck i am having a major issue. 2 days ago i go to start the truck up and all the guages stopped working except the fuel gauge and speedo. Oil, tach, volt, temp all are on zero. ac does not work either. after driving the truck for say 5 minutes, all the gauges kick back on and the ac starts to work. i have checked all grounds, power, and fuses and everything seems inline. this mornign i drove it for 10 minutes and the gauges did NOT come back on. also cannot check for codes as the scanner will not connect to the truck now. weird part is it does not say NO BUS in the odometer. sometimes the scanner will work and most times it will not. only codes i…

  13. Hello everyone. Iam in the middle of driving from Idaho to North Dakota and am having issues in Glendive, MT. I turned off o!f the interstate and slowed to ~15 mph before merging on to a different highway. My truck accelerated fine and at ~45 mph a check engine light came on and I lost all of my accelerator function. I am 770+ miles into the trip and everything else has been fine until now. It is about 10 degrees out so i am afraid to shut off and attempt a restart/check codes via key trick in fear of freezing to a pop sickle overnight. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!P.s. I am running anti-gel in the fuel so plugged filter shouldn't be an i…

I did some trading today and got a hx35 with a pacbrake exhaust flange and cylinder. Said it was from a 96 3500 with 120k. Can't feel any shaft play at all and spins free. Theres no spot on the compressor housing for a boost elbow. The butterfly is stuck and i haven't tested the cylinder yet, its vacuum. If i can get this thing freed up what all will i have to do to put it on the truck? I think i found the right install manual but haven't had time to really get into it.

Hey all, I have a 2002 cummins 2500 SLT, manual trans, 4X4. The problem I have been having that just started a few months ago is the engine with die and then come back on going down the highway. The engine will do this on off on off surge like someone is turning the key on and off very fast. This will happen with the throttle pedal and or the cruise control. The fuel system is solid with a fass fuel pump and I have verified 15psi at my VP44. I have cleaned all grounds and verified wiring connectors are tight and problem free. I have no codes and have verified that I have no ripple effect coming from my alternator. I stopped in at a dodge performance place and went for a r…

Well I just got thru installing a new set of DAP 50hp Injectors. The whole process went well. The most fun was dealing #6 and to a lesser degree #5. I did go the extra mile on cleaning up the ends of the fuel lines after reading all that @hex0rz went thru. Used scotch brite pads to polish them up real good before re installing them. So far I have a little weeping, just enough to dampen the head at the injectors, but no leaks beyond that. I figure I am going to ride that out a little and see it goes away as in the past. As far as the injectors go, they run quieter and deliver a little more power than the RV's they replace. They are however smokier and a little hotte…

I've been starting the engine with the grid heaters disconnected for 6 weeks with morning temps ranging from 28°-55°F with just a little white smoke and a loping idle for about 30 seconds. This afternoon, after my wife drove it this morning, the check engine light was on. I scanned the system with an OBD code reader and fond this, P1291 No temp rise from intake heaters. Monitor & Set Conditions Temperature rise from intake air heaters is monitored for first 15 seconds of engine operation. DTC may be stored if initial Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor reading is 0-66°F (-17.8 to 18.8°C), Battery Temperature Sensor (BTS) and IAT sensor are within 10°F of …

So I've been looking at the Edge products, and have noticed that depending on which one you decide to get some come with built in gauges as an added bonus. So my question is are these gauges reliable enough to just use them or should you just go on ahead and get the actual gauges? If they are reliable my view is if I decided to get a Edge product with gauges then why spend the $300.00 + dollars to get actual gauges! Just my thoughts. Opinions welcomed, and appreciated in advance.

Was a nice guy yesterday and gave a friend a jump start, wasn't watching when he hooked up and now I've got a water in fuel light and a check engine light. Scanned it and have a p0237 and a P1693 code, it will not let me clear them. Ideas? Please tell me he didn't fry my ECM. Mark
