  2. Hey guys,I'm new on here but I have a question that I haven't been able to find a good answer for. When I first crank my truck it is hard to start whether hot or cold. When it does crank it idles fine. After driving maybe 5-10 miles and stopping at a red light the idle becomes real choppy. If I shut it off, it will fire up normally and idle just fine, but 5-10 miles down the road the same thing happens again. I have a fuel pressure gauge and for some reason when I was pulling a load it jumped around and then stuck maxed out. Every now and then it will jump around but I never get a normal reading like I did when I first put it on. I do not have a snubber or needle valve on…

  3. Hey ya'll,i am back with an update.:banghead: So after a year of having no symptoms since 1/28/11, i am having symptoms again. Not really sure what is going on. I have not gone thru any of the routine troubleshooting steps just yet. I am back for some more schooling!!!! So now the situation is that i am having dead pedal above 70 MPH. I can punch the gas on the highway, tranny goes thru its automatic gear shifts, than if i try to accelerate above 70, nothing. --- Update to the previous post... please read other thread!

I recently replaced my VP44 and installed an Airdog 150. I started with the bigger spring because I wanted more than 15 psi, but I was getting 20 - 21. I changed the spring and now I have 19-20 psi. This seems a little high to me. Any suggestions on adjusting it? Also the only port for the gauge is on the pump. Is this ok? Before is was on the vp44 fitting.

  5. Just returned from our first camping trip of the year... first tow with the Quadzilla XZT+ (2000 tune). I don’t know if the XZT has any effect on the engine temperature. I am used to to running (empty) right on the thermostat, a needle width below the center mark (200 degrees). Towing, I previously ran about a needle width above that center mark. I saw the temp climb to 2 needle widths above on grades... but came down coasting / light throttle on the other side. So we arrived at the parking field, shifted to 4 high & were directed to the best spot. They wanted me to circle outside & “drive through” next to another vehicle which I did... but I could …

Hey fellas I'm back, but I have a problem! When I'm driving down the road, I'm getting a real hard sucking air sound from the intake side! I'm running now psi on boost, but the turbo sounds like it is really spooling! All boots seem to be intact, although there is one that I am kind of worried about!

  8. My 47re has recently started reving a little higher before shifting from 3 to 4. Its only reving up a couple hundred rpm higher but still something isnt right.

  9. Drove the truck into work this morning and everything was perfectly normal. Left work at 5, it fired up even more quickly than usual, with just the tiniest bump of the key, and seemed to be idling fine. Backed out of the parking space fine, and it wasn't til I pulled out of the parking lot that I noticed it sounded off. And then it started chugging, forcing me to shift it into neutral and keep the revs around 1200 to keep it alive. I pulled into the nearest parking lot to see what I could see, thinking maybe one of the intercooler boots blew off or something, but they looked fine. I tried revving it with the throttle cable, and it builds revs pretty quick, and only as it …

  10. My 99 3500 lost boost coming home the other day. No lights came on and after about 20 minutes it came back to life and ran great the rest of the way home. Now when I start it up and take off, it has no boost in the beginnning but will gradually build up to around 10-11lbs as the truck warms up. From there it's anybody's guess as to how it will act. Going from nothing to full power again. It starts great and has yet to throw a light. I just took it to our local Napa and had them plug it in to pull the codes and it showed nothing at all. Not even in the "Stored" side. I did try the APPS reset and that seemed to make no difference. It's showing 10-11lbs fuel pressure at idle…

  11. I just replaced my injection pump and lift pump. I put a factory replacement raptor lift pump on. After bleeding all the lines the truck will start and run fine. Once you turn the truck off it will start and run for 5-10 second and shut off. After that it will not start back until you bleed the injectors again. Please help.

  12. i have posted before about my 6 speed and it jumping out of 1st, rev, and 6th. today i was coming home and went to shift for m 4th to 5th and it stuck in 4th. it did shift into 5th but it took some effort to get it out. it now no longer will go into 4th. it pulls into the position but does not engage the gears. 3rd is clashing just a wee bit but working fine while in gear. it never made any noises just stuck ther in fourth until i forced it out. i am sure i have to either rebuild or replace the tranny. i have had a hard time finding any one who wants to work on that six speed. i know some of you out there have 6 speeds and i was hoping you have had some good experiance wi…

  14. Hey all,I have had my oil filter head leaking for awhile all over the side of the block, so it is time to pull it off and replace the gaskets. I looked in the FSM for some guidance on what to do, but no luck. Is there anything special I need to be aware of besides draining the coolant? I bought 2 paper gaskets from cummins (the parts guy advised me that is all I should need). I figure the proper torque on the bolts should be 18ftlbs based on the size of the fasteners. Thanks,Chris

Has anyone ever replaced the bearing in the belt tensioner? is this something that can be replaced and if so who has the part number of the bearing? mine is starting to squeak and i figured that this would be the cheaper route rather than replacing the entire tensioner. thank you.

  18. Sister graduated yesterday and somehow word is out that I know how to play with diesels and a guy hit me up with his 24V saying he wants to give it a tune up. This means set his valves (apparently has never been done, ever, after 160k miles) and check over some other things. I imagine being a 24V I should clean his map sensor and what else is there to check on those things? Now the thing is he went from 18 when new and has dwindled down to 12, I would think if his valves and sensors were off/dirty it would constitute the drop but what other things is there that would cause this? I don't think he has any codes or anything, just never had any maintenance done in it's li…

  20. I got the quick connect w/ the big line kit. But it only goes to the filter. So from the filter to the VP44 is the stck line. Does anyone make a big line kit that goes the rest of the way. it doesn't have to be a quick connect. I have a standard cab & the connections were a pain in the neck to find a place to make work. Sort of looks rigged the way I have it. I'll see if I can post some pix!Thnx, Dave
