I’ve searched and read a whole bunch of threads about swapping an HO(028) pump in place of an SO(027) pump the mixed answeres really leave a guy confused. So so I don’t care about high horsepower capabilities or anything like that I’m just interested in daily drivability with at most a small tune and some 50-75hp injectors but currently bone stock. My SO pump is dead, I have a known working HO pump. What can I expect by swapping the HO in place of the SO pump. Many say it works just fine and many others say it can not be done..

Can I swap a HO vp with my SO vp for testing purposes or is it going to make mine run goofy with the HO in it?

Hi. New here and I'm glad to find you guys. So I recently picked up a 2002 2500 five nine 4x. 112000 miles. Of course it won't start when hot unless I leave key on till pump stops and then bleed the water filter. I have a Tass one fifty that I'm putting in on tues. there is no fuel pressure gauge but I will be putting one on tues. as well. I guess what I'm asking is my vp going to be shot. Or can we not tell without a gauge. I've never owned a diesel and mine seems pretty week feels like some pretty dead pedal. No smoke on cold start.

  4. VP-44 Key Picture On my wifes truck I wanted to verifiy the key was... 1. In 2. The arrow pointed the right way 3. That the number matched the number on the pump I was able to use a 4MP Cannon camera on the closeup setting to capture this picture so we didnt have to use a mirror or scope. If you didn't know... the arrow points towards the pump. the number on the key matches the number stamped on the pump. You can't use another number key

Hi guys First off thanks for the add this looks to be the place for 2nd generation questions. I have a 98.5 24 V that stopped running. It was running ok and I parked it for about 10 minutes, wouldn't restart. Turned over fine just wouldn't fire. Changed the fuel filter and bled the system. Cracked the injectors and only got fuel out of cyl 3 and 4. It seemed like it was only the lift pump pushing fuel not the injector pump, fuel just ran out when the lift pump was going. Pulled it and managed to get it started (have to love a 5 speed). Had a major stumble on the low end but once you got going it did ok. Not great but got it home. It would die if you …

I’m having intermittent issues and not sure where to begin. First with what I know. After starting the truck, within a couple minutes, the tach becomes intermittent. It works, then won’t, so on and so on. While driving, it will stumble. Not all the time, and when it does, it does it like 2 or 3 times in a row. It seems like as soon as it’s at operating temperature, it runs fine. If it sits for a couple hours, it runs fine. In the past month, it’s shut off on me 3 times while driving. After it shuts off, it will crank but won’t fire. After it sits a minute or two, it fires and runs fine. Temperatures were in the teens when it happened, not sure if there…

Ive been chasing down problems with this new to me 98 24v and just got a pretty big indicator I think. First I diagnosed alternator AC problems causing TC lock/unlock issues, and then narrowed down my TC not unlocking to a couple things but now I was just out for a drive, stopped at a buddies house and we figured it was idling a little high 900rpm(ish) and the CEL kicked on while I was there. I was going to try an APPS reset when I got home but on my way home cruising down the highway my throttle pedal went dead and I had to be towed home. Pulled the codes and got P0121, P0122, P0216, P0234, and of course a P1693 to go with it all. I know what the definition of each cod…

Finally I have something to post about. I haven't had any issues so I've been lurking. Sadly this could be an expensive one? Let us discuss... Today I'm out driving to an appointment, all is well. Take a right hand turn and hear a loud bang, more-so a metal clunk (almost sounded like a u-joint snapped on the driveshaft). I immediately notice a slightly odd idle at the next stop light. Go about another block after I make the turn and the truck starts bucking/limping, practically no power. I noticed a little bit of white smoke out the exhaust when under load (but not idling). Made it off the road into a parking lot and I'm thinking textbook bad VP44. D…

My truck all the sudden takes a good 3-5 seconds to crank over, as well as the fass fuel system pumps for a good 20 seconds once the key is turned, is that a good sign if the vp44 going out?

Driving home from work engine the tone changed and my max speed was 60 mph so checked for codes no codes, I disconnected the TS MVP no change, I check fuel pressure seemed normal to me bump key 17psi, running 15psi, mash the pedal to the floor 10psi, my fass pump is 12 years old. Truck is smoking white smoke. I'm thinking it the VP44 it have been in for 10yrs and 200,000 miles. It did this the first time the VP44 died, except it would only idle no matter what position the gas pedal was in. I'm thinking it's the VP44 again just wanted a second a pinion. I plan on replacing the VP and the fass pump. Thanks

fmi, I was curious to what the mechanical range of the vp44's advance was? I know they are electronically adjusted, but what are the mechanical limitations? Is there anyway to monitor this advance?

Hello I am replacing my Vp44, I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 5 speed with the S.O. Isb 5.9 cummins. Is there any way that I can put a 17x (found only in the 6speeds) vp44 injection pump on the motor or do I have to find a 15x S.O injection pump And if I did put a 17x pump on the s.o. motor what could go wrong?

  15. Need some help. I’m The second owner of the truck, 175,000 miles. All originally stock, only modifications is an air dog lift pump and a heater grid delete. When I disconnected the batteries to do the lift pump install a few months ago, I did an APPS reset using the throttle pedal. When I start and idle the truck over the past week, I can smell what seems like unburnt diesel from the exhaust pipe. After a few minutes driving down the road and at a stoplight, before the engine is it operating temperature, I can still smell the rich diesel, and inside the cab my eyes start to burn. No codes are being thrown, no check light is on. I was pulling my boat yesterday, 6…

I've been away for a long while but I've been busy. It's that time again..... Time for another VP44 and lift pump. I've been looking around and CPP seems to be where you get the most bang for your buck. This is what I was considering. Would anybody advise different??? I don't want to go with thoroughbred diesel again and I can't afford a blue chip pump. My main concern is the fass lift pump since their VPs have all new electronics. Are they legit? Anybody have any experiences (good or bad) with CPP??? Thanks in advance. http://www.cumminsperformanceparts.com/vp44fasscombo.html

Has anyone ever measured the amp draw of a VP44? I have been having some weird issues with one I just bought, so I did some logging and what I'm seeing is that it pulls about .2amps when it is idling smooth, then it jumps up to between 12 and 18 amps and the engine starts to run rougher, then it drops back to .2 and smooths out again. I'm curious if that is normal or the sign of a bad pump. Luckily I have a Blue Chip VP44 that works great, and I'm building a brand new ultimate bullet proof engine, so if this one is bad its not the end of the world...

Hi guys, I want to know if I can tap the hole in the hy35 housing where the metal hose goes for the wastegate. I want to put the elbow that come with the edge jwa for increase boost?? Does it work or I'm better with a j-hook to increase boost?? Second question. For my 2001 24v automatic, does this vp44 pump #BOSH 0470506005 ---- #CUMMINS 3676670 fit directly on my truck or I need to get another key for the shaft?? If its bolt-on right with no problems?? I found one near. guys want 500$ new and said its for 1998-1999. It's a close enterprise ... Thank you

I have my injection pump off and have to replace the bracket. Is it true the vacuum and power steering pumps can be removed when the vp is also out? I’m worried about timing gears falling out of place thanks

  20. I am wanting to do a 24 valve cummins swap into a truck and i was wanting to know if a factory wiring harness could be modified to work without the original truck. I have been told that the 98.5'-00' trucks and the 01'- 02' have slightly different wiring. My question is has anyone done a stand alone wiring harness or does anyone have a diagram of a factory harness that has been turned into a stand alone harness?
