I have a puzzle to try and figure out. A friend brought his truck to me because it was bucking and surging. I drove it, it was. I checked fuel pressure and found zero fuel pressure from the lift pump. Truck was running without lift pump fuel pressure. He said to me he had just replaced that intank pump about a year ago. This truck had the original lift pump on the side of the engine replace ten or twelve years ago so this is the second intank pump. What I found was when I bypassed the relay the pump would run, put out about 14.5 PSI. I found that the in line fuse that is in the power feed line to the relay was disintegrated. The only thing left were the prongs of…

Hello all. I have a 99 dodge, the truck has a 2002 engine that has been installed, after the ‘53’ block died. The truck has a tone wheel mounted to the front of the balancer for the ckp sensor. The truck has the HO vp pump and the computer for the 2002 engine. the issue I’m having is a p1690 and p0338 codes. The only issues the truck seems to have is a miss or stumble at idle that seems to come and go, and high egts. I have recently replaced the balancer as it was coming apart, reset the air gap on the tone ring to the sensor and Cleared codes and they come right back. looking for recommendations on where to go next. tr…

@Mopar1973Man Hello , my name is Eric I’m new to this whole diesel thing so go easy on me I’ll try to giv as much info as I can. I bought this truck beginning of February and it needed some much needed tlc the kid that had it before me left it it kinda rough shape. I replaced a lot and a new coat of paint and some body work to fix the rust, new lift pump and a new tuner with a monitor to top it off. (Edge juice with attitude cts2 monitor). Recently I’ve had some issues I can’t quite explain , a couple of weeks ago the truck would act like it was in limp mode it was almost like it was stuck in 3rd gear maybe and if I would step on it I would get no power, …

Ok LOOKING for some help here . I have a 1999 2500 4X4 5 speed Quad St . Recently I did a cab swap over the winter . While putting the truck together I used the 1998.5 Dash and harness from an SLT . While working on the truck it ran great started up after sitting for a couple of months . While were putting it all back together we came across an issue with the 1998.5 dash . the Headlight switch in a 1998.5 and the 1999 are different and we had no headlights . so we switched everything over and put the 1999 dash back into to the truck . So all the harness is 1999 . We went to start the truck and it started and died ! We thought the pump but after all that wha…

Hey guys, I had a problem come up on my 99 on Friday. I came out to start the truck after it sitting for maybe 4 days to go dirtbike riding and the truck started at first, I moved it to the spot I load my bike and then the truck wouldn't start when I went to leave. I watched some videos and did some reading and got the truck to start by unplugging and re plugging the connector right out of the fuse box with a single brown wire. No loose battery connections and just looking around I couldnt find any loose grounds anywhere. I took the truck and it was fine the rest of the day, started fine probably 5 times. Today I went out and it happened again. No crank, clicks every time…

Hello all, I’m really hoping y’all can give me some kind of direction here. Sorry, in advance, for the long post. Let me start by telling you what I’ve got and what I know. I’m working on a 1999 Dodge 2500. A friend brought it to me after swapping from a v10 to a 24 valve. The engine, PCM, ECM, gauge cluster, fuel tank and engine harness came out of a wrecked 1999 dually so the year models match up. I’ve double checked all of the connections, battery cables, plugs, etc. and everything is how it should be. I was told it ran before he put it in but that it also sat for a year between it being pulled and then put into this current truck. Now, it won’t sta…

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 5.9 Diesel. After I drive it 8-10 miles the check engine light comes on and the tachometer bounces up and down. Sometimes it goes down to zero and stays there. Other times it responds like it's supposed to. While it does this the engine "power surges", it cuts out and loses power but doesn't die. Other times it gains power......when you get down on it sometimes the tachometer responds like it's supposed to but the vehicle doesn't gain any power, not falling on it's face but not responding. It's not the throttle postion sensor because the tachometer responds. The codes I keep getting are: P1693 P1694 P0123 P1690 P0336 I have cle…

I just came back from a camping trip and when I was 60 miles from home towing my 30 ft fifth wheel and 12' flat bed trailer with a side X side on it, I stopped for fuel and when I pulled out of the pump I could hear a noise under the truck so I stopped and the noise quit soon after kinda sounded like exhaust spit to me. When I got back on the highway and got back up to speed everything was fine till I went for 5th and it just ground I backed off and slowed down then got back up to speed and same thing it ground in 5th. I had one shop familiar with the fifth gear nut problem say they usually make not noise at all. Does this sound like a fifth gear nut issue or worse. And f…

I just replaced the vp44 injection pump and lift pump, now it stalls when pushing in the clutch when coming to a stop. Rpm will bounce around sometimes you can keep it from stalling by giving it fuel and pushing the clutch in. It never did this before, I had a p0252 code is the reason I changed out the the vp44. The new lift pump is a OEM. Vp44 is a remanufactured.

Curious if anyone could tell me if there would be any difference between a 99 ECM vs my 2000 ECM It it came off the same engine I.E. H.O. 6speed? Reason, I'm getting back into hauling trailers as soon as my freshly fused ankle allows me to, and FMSCA might require me to have an ELD(electronic logging device) not sure, because right now towaway operators are exempt for now, but 1999 and older engines exempt, not that I'll be worried about HOS but just an added extra monthly cost.

This might be a great test of the "There are no stupid questions" rule...but I have to ask.For those of you that have manual transmission, which gear to you start out in when under no real load? I've heard of people doing starting our in 1st and others starting out in 2nd but I would rather hear people's thoughts and get more of an understanding rather than burn up a clutch earlier than normal. Thanks for the input.

2002 5.9 dually 81,000 miles on the clock. Have several problems guys. But firstly I bought the truck 6 months ago and have put 18,000 miles on it but when the cold weather hit I came up with alot of problems. I'm pretty mechanicly inclined I just dont know where to begin my first 5.9 24valve and diesel for that matter. Its pouring oil like a drop every 10 seconds out of the crank case vent so I emptied the bottle and filter and that didnt help a bit. Also theres a small hole in the bottle I'm assuming from the previous owner? Next I have a hard start fuel leak issue sets down hill truck starts fine, tighten the banjo bolt still no luck. Cant actually see fuel leaking fro…

the 12 valve and 24 valve cummins running the cummins supplied computer, along with the chrysler supplied pcm... make up our 'management operations'. Am I wrong to think the cummins' ecm does the actual engine management.... but is 'guided' by the pcm?so when a person mods with a performance module, they are actually 'fooling' the cummin's ecm with 'false' info from pcm?? ( so to induce higher boost, more timing, more fuel, etc..)The reason I ask, is the '94 ranch truck I am getting ready to build this winter still awaits my decision on which power plant: A simple 12 valve, totally mechanical on one end of my choices, to a …

Have followed the forum concerning using 2 cyc oil. Have about made up my mind to start using it. I have a FASS Lift Pump with a 3/8 in inline filter and the OME filter upfront. I'm using a Quest filter upfront. I have recently used Lucas as an additive but it should be cleared out by now. I'm currently in Texas and will be retuning to SC after the 4th of July. Does anyone see any problem with starting using it now? I have 6k miles since I changed the upfront filter. Mohok

My Stewart Warner pillar gauge and I-Quad aren't reading boost the same. When I'm on the throttle, the pillar gauge says 35+ and Quad says 5-6. At cruise, mech says 4-5, Quad says 0 No doubt the mechanical gauge is right and Quad is wrong. I hardly use the Quad gauge on my phone so I don't know how long there's been a difference. No codes. Map sensor is clean - no soot. Is the Quad reading directly from the MAP sensor or thru the ECM? Can a MAP sensor be sick and not throw a code?
