Being the single most important part on our trucks I thought I would toss some thoughts out there for your opinions. To start I have had other 3/4ton trucks though none with a heavy diesel motor and they seem to perform well with stock brake my rotors will last about a 100k and the pads 50-60k on the two gassers I have that are driveable. Now my diesel ram chewed up my rotors and pads in 30k miles is this normal? The pads where ebc greenstuff 600 for the 8800gvwr not the 7500gvwr almost biffed that this go round and stock rotors at 225,800 miles the front brakes where completly overhauled new lines, calipers, cleaned and wire brushed the caliper mounts, rotors and pads…

  2. Hello all. Sorry I havent been on much lately. Just been so busy with work and moving again. Anyway, I noticed the other day that my old cummins is extra rattly, especially during shut down. It almost has an extra thump-thump to it. I cant tell if it is just something loose under the hood or internal engine. I am very much hoping for an easy fix. I have a couple videos I took of it. You can definitly hear the extra rattle as the engine shuts down and a little bit of the thump while its idling. Video 1 This video has a loud thump at the very end but that was just my phone hitting the dash as the mighty engine slows down. Video 2 Hope the videos hel…

Ill start by saying i cant wait to have my 3:54s and smaller tires next year. I have barely touched the front end of my truck since i bought it but lately i have found a lot of worn parts. The latest deal is a clunk from the front when returning the wheel to center after a sharp turn. I also noticed while fixing my frame brace that my sway bar end links were brittle and sloppy. Also noticed that when inside the cab i can pick the steering wheel up and down a 1/2 inch. Im thinking that may be part of the clunk noise? I have a feeling the 2 bolts that hold the column up that i pulled for the heater core job are the culprits but we will find out later.

Sunday morning I had high hopes of changing my front shocks. Driver's side went well, but two of the passenger side shock tower retainer studs snapped off. In lieu of spending $30-40 to replace this part, I came up with a "repair" plan that hopefully may help someone in the future that doesn't have a week to dream this up and build it. Also, I read nothing but bad things about the MOOG version of this device - for some folks the studs immediately snapped, for others the studs spun in the retainer. I'm not yet done with this, so this is a post in progress. Basically I have thus far cut the hex off some grade 10.9, 10-1.5x25mm flange bolts and plan to either silve…

  6. Right, my Dodge has developed another minor issue, I'm starting to remember why I bought a nearly brand new car in the first place. Anyway, the issue is this: My brake lights, seem to alter the indicators, indicating. For lack of a better way to explain it, usually you have the indicators going "tick tick tick", but when I press the brake pedal they go "tick.............tick...............tick", there's a pretty long pause between flashes. As the indicator in the instrument panel stays veeery dimly lit between flashes, I assume it's a ground issue somewhere, something, somewhere, is grounding where it shouldn't. I'm suspecting one of the taillights, perha…

My power steering has been crap the last few weeks. Turns great to the left, but not worth a damn to the right! :mad We just replaced the power steering pump, and tried to flush or bleed the lines, and it does the same thing as before we replaced the pump. Any suggestions?

I dont know if this starts a new thread, as HAGGAR suggested, I'm new to the forum, not tech savvy, and have only a tiny phone to post with...so please, bear with me. I'll try and recap, I've cleaned and reinstalled ALL the grounds for the headlight circuit to the best of my ability. I had no broken or loose wires., and the SINGLE 40 amp fuse checks out. I have no other current wiring or lighting issues, stop, turn, and tail all work, as do all running lights and in cab lighting. in the below pick, with selector on high beam, the passenger side light plug works, with 12+volts at the pin on the right as seen. On the drivers side, this pin registers .52vol…

Not sure if anyone tried this but, I was rotating tires and found a lot of greenish looking corrosion inside wheel caps. So after scrubbing that crap off for a while and not having much progress, I tried using regular toilet bowl cleaner that says "removes rust, lime, calcium". Man that stuff took it right off and didn't do any damage to good surface. I only got after picture, everywhere you see plastic showing that's where that nasty green looking crap was. I wish I would of cut it sooner but outside still looks good. I'd imagine it would work good for getting corrosion of the rims too.

Hello. I'm going to replace tierod and draglink and I'm confused about Moog part numbers. I think I have T-style steering in my 98 4x4 and don't want to order wrong parts because returning parts from Finland takes time and costs big money. Thank you.

  12. Hi all, I’m having an issue with my 1997 dodge 2500 4x4 Cummins. Issue started after I let the truck sit over winter months. The issue is when I turn the key to the on position my ASD relay along with the trans relay in the PDC tick very fast and loud. The ticking is accompanied by all my dash lights flickering to the same speed the relays are ticking. The truck starts and shuts down with the key, just won’t go into drive or reverse. Everything worked great when parked. Thanks in advance for any info\advice. Also this is my first post so not sure if I put it in the correct place. Be nice and steer me in the right direction if I posted incorrectly!

So I installed my high idle switch this after noon and I'm have issue with the temp gauge shooting up to +200 in 6cyl settings. I tried shutting the truck down then switching settings. Then starting it back and the issue goes away in the mpg setting and 3cyl settings. I tried the 6cyl setting again and same issue. I uninstalled the unit now it goes into 3cyl high idle with out the unit being installed. I have it set to the off position now and it idles normal now. Any ideas on trouble shooting the issue. I followed all the install instructions and check the wiring for any pinched wires or connecters not being plugged in all the way and everything checked out.

Tried different glues for compatibility since I have a broken Bezel and found ABS pipe glue works very well and does not come off. I'm also laminating a piece of decorative cowboy Hide just over the top to add strength and hide cracks. Kinda tough to do but one trick is to glue a larger piece on there and then trim it later after glue sets up. Careful with the front edge.

  15. Well gang... I finally swap my tires for offroad use and firewood hauling. I've been running a Big O at for the streets and light dirt road use (in town). But now with firewood season I'll be doing more dragging and skidding of trees so I put on the aggressive tires. So I popped a few pics... You'd be surprised on how heavy the 265/75 R16 are compared to a 235/85 R16...

I am replacing my busted grille and I found out that the fasteners that attach the 4 points on the grille to the grille bracket are missing. Anyone know what size these bolts are and do they have a washer? There are 4 of them.

  19. So I have a 97 12 Valve, and my coolant temp gauge has been fluctuating bad. Idling it’ll sit at 180-190 and then when you get on the throttle it shoots to 230+ and let off the throttle it goes back to 180-190. I’ve replaced the thermostat, thinking maybe it’s the coolant temp sensor? How often do those go bad? Thinking about just running a new gauge to get a more accurate reading and by passing the factory wiring. If I was to do so could I install the probe into the sensor hole on the back of the block?? Or could I use the plug on the top of the thermostat housing??

  20. My low beam on the passenger side is not working but works when you turn on high beam. Is this from a short in line somewhere or switch or what? Has anyone else had this kind of problem. I have changed the sockets out with new ones, checked for shorts (as good as I can while on the truck) on the harness but nothing to obvious. let me know what y'all think
