2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

  1. I have a 2001 LWB SC 2WD 2500 with an Edge EZ, stock trans rebuild (will be doing tow/haul shift kit). My right side leaf pack has a broken leaf & will need to be replaced. I will also be hauling a 21-24' travel trailer from Florida to Utah. Should I just go with a pair of new replacement springs, or is there a better option?Thank you,Ed

Who here is familiar with these cars? I have never owned one though VERY intrigued by how they are built to last a LONG time or longer. I know we have the engine (12 or 24v for arguments sake) but what body is over built enough to truly hold up to a million miles? Love to get this conversation started.. ULTIMATE LONGEVITY TRUCK. meaning can do projects around the house, tow the family camper and not be afraid to haul a load of manure in the rain. Lets bench build it

  3. I recently bought an 02 3500. It has no body. Previous owner had a welding rig body which he took off and in doing so cut all the tail/stop/turn/reverse lighting wiring.Does anyone know where I can find rear light wiring diagram so I can figure out which wires are what so I can:banghead: wire up some new lights? Thanks!

I have a 1998.5 and have owned my truck for 13 years and only activated the RWAL twice and it didn't work both times. I now have a ABS light on and changed the sensor on the rear end with on joy. I have had it to all of the dealers within 100 miles of my house and it appears that their DRB111s can talk to it but are not functional enough to read the abs module or reset the tire size ( all if them looked really beat). My first question is there a way to determine if the module in the dash is bad or the hydraulic unit under the hood is bad. The second question is only because I am leaving on a 5000 mile trip in 8 days and I would like to kill the ABS light on the dash and s…

I'm thinking about all that has been written about replacement headlights, added off road lighting, etc and comparing with my many years ago experiences where I replaced the OEM lights with "off road" replacements. Sure the off road lights were more powerful but that is only half the story. The other half is the precision ground optics that went with it. The optics allowed for the lights to be aimed higher with no scatter. Now those sealed beam replacements were "universal fit" just install & re-aim. I see neet LOOKING after market lights for the Dodge... but it the optic quality up to the task? Anybody have experience with this? Thanks,Russ

Once again its time for new seat covers. While I was last down in Emmett, ID I stop in Autozone and pickup a new set of seat covers. So far my factory seats are doing fair to OK. The driver seat is finally getting a tear on the outer edge from hauling my tail across it. The lower back of the seat is getting a bit thread bare. Passenger side is still good. But after getting the seat covers on and trimmed in looks good. Kind reminds me of a Ford design.

Been really busy lately so had no time for anything but I have been looking for a neat fuse and relay box for the truck just for everything that gets added, first requirement was a fused supply for the leisure battery on the 5th wheel, doesn't need a high amp fuse but wanted to fuse it before the split charge relay. I was looking at a marine box but it was made in china and couldn't find anything with any more than 4 relay slots. I came across a modular fuse box on ebay out of a Ford Mondeo (uk) its a U shaped bracket that holds 3 seperate fuse relay holders and there is also slots around the outside to mount more relays if needed, just so happens the mounting s…

I made the replacement relay for the fuel solenoid look OEM. I gutted the OEM relay housing. Just plug in the new replacement. The base of the old relay socket will hold the replacement 70 Amp relay in the gutted housing. Future relay replacement will be a snap.

My fuel shutdown/start cable setup. The photos show where I used the old solenoid to actuate the fuel shut off and location or the cable control into the cab. The setup is pretty straight forward. I left the spring inside the boot. This will allow the fuel lever to snap shut when the cable handle is released.

  11. I've been eyeing the projector retrofit that @Me78569 did but didn't want to spend that kind of money right now so I just bought some replacement housings off of Amazon for the time being. These are the ones I purchased: SPPC Crystal Headlights Black With Corner Light For Dodge Ram - (Pair) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JBIAC3W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_4l25zb405J5YX Since my factory housings were literally falling apart I needed a replacement ASAP. These looked like they would be a nice upgrade over the factory style headlights and the clear lenses would be perfect for the projector retrofit. The plan was to run these as is for now and retrofit some Morimoto Mini H1'…

  12. I got these from the dealership, they're for a 96, but should work on some of the other years. Figured someone else might be looking for these. Hope this helps some.

Well Gang. I've been seen these goofy threads about people trying to figure out if a heater core is functional or plugged up. So since I took my truck to town for a job I figure I do the bench testing for the heater core to let you know what a good functional heater core will do. So measuring the vent temperature from the center vents with Bi-Level setting I measured...Fan Lo - 160*F roughlyFan Hi - 150*F roughlyOutside temperature - +10*FEngine Coolant Temperature - 193-195*FAs for the heater hoses they should not both be equally hot. I checked mine after driving about 6 miles from town stopped at a rest area and left the blower on Hi and felt both hoses. The hose from t…

What does everyone think of having a section for parts numbers for our trucks? Maybe a section for the engine, tranny, and drivelines. As each one of us buys a part we could add to the list and each of us would be giving back a little to the site. If I am for bringing this up then you can give me a .

  20. Manual Air Recirculation Control The HVAC control in a 1999-2002 2ed generation Ram only has the ability to recirculate air when either the controller is in the OFF or MAX A/C. In all other positions outside air is entering the cab interior. This modification will give you the ability to either have the air recirculation controlled by the factory HVAC controller or have the system in recirculation in any position. How it works The black hose supplies the vacuum to the HVAC system. The green hose supplies vacuum from the HVAC controller to the recirculation actuator. When the mode knob is in the OFF or MAX A/C positions vacuum is applied to the …
