2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

  1. My 01 Cummins has the worst heater output compared to the other two Dodge Cummins 4x4 pickups I had. They would roast me out of the cab and cause me to turn the temperature down. This pickup I leave on high and it's still not hot like it should be. I've always had a lack of heat and lack of cold AC with this rig. I already put a brand new heater core and evaporator core in it, new NAPA 190° t-stat, new water pump, new radiator, new radiator fan clutch, new blower motor, new hvac reastat, and heater treater blend door adapter. My EJWA says it's running at 190° at full temp while driving it. I timed the factory blend door…

  2. Hey y'all, long time no see. Having been Ram-less for about two years, I could hardly live with myself anymore so I caved in and went ahead and picked up a '99 2500 today. It has some issues, two of which are the warning lights for the parking brake, or brakes? They're to the left of the seatbelt light in the instrument cluster. I've tried some googling, but getting few answers. I don't really know where to begin with this, I've checked the switch for the parking brake underneath the dashboard. Unplugged it, but it made no difference. Since I'm based in Norway, the chances of finding someone with an actual Dodge scan tool that will read anything other th…

This last week my steering has been slightly heavy after applying the brakes, checked the brake pedal and turn engine off and pedal is solid straight away Question is, are the accumulators available separately ?? as this would be a much cheaper alternative for me shipping wise, checked rockauto and only showing a complete unit I resealed the hydroboost a couple of years ago and it looked fine just worn out seals due to me using ATF DOH

I’m sure this has been best to death and a can of worms I probably don’t want to open. Looking for the most reliable lift pump. I’ve been repeatedly told lately to stay away from fass and air dog as they’ve supposedly went down hill. Currently have an air dog 100 that I’m not satisfied with. Thinking with my mods I should jump to a 150 or 165gph. Open to suggestions but would like to stay with the dual filter type. I’m a brand new member so forgive me for not understanding the searches and topics yet.

Last week I started getting some “pre-WT” mod like symptoms. Miss, cuts, tc lock/unlock at 30-40mph especially when lugging at low rpm. Truck has wt mod, nations 180 alternator, year old batteries, new battery cables, and lug terminals. Grounds are perfect. Everything is clean. Not a hiccup since WT mod 3 years ago. Trans is a year old with 5K. Around the same time this started happening I noticed my AC wasn’t blowing cold. Charged it. Then noticed intermittent cold ac. Everything in the dash is newer (heater treater, blend door actuator, evaporator, etc) Tested batteries and alternator for ac and get .01 to .015 with all accessories on or off, but d…

About a month ago I experienced a hitch receiver failure on my 2002 2500 4WD Long Bed truck equipped with a Cummins engine and a manual 6 spd transmission. Although I have inspected the hitch many times over the years, I overlooked a critical area during those inspections. The hitch-to-frame fasteners (four on each side) were always tight. However, a couple of inches away from the fasteners (at the first 90 bend in the hitch receiver flange) is where the separation occurred. It started on the left rear side of the hitch receiver (a long time ago) and continued forward until the hitch receiver dropped away from the truck frame as I was pulling off to the side the road…

Does anyone know if the RV house battery isolator is integral to the truck tow electrical system on the 2001 3500 and if so where would it be located?

I've just been able to get back to my truck upgrades. It's been a busy year so far. I was checking my power steering fluid level and noticed that one of my ground wires did not get hooked back up. This is the shorter small ground wire on the drivers side battery. The longer one goes to the frame. Does anyone know where this shorter cable is supposed to be bolted down?

As you can see, the tube is recessed, I believe it was pushed back while it was in the shop getting the engine replaced... https://photos.app.goo.gl/xGfBWrPxEVdmixyd9 https://photos.app.goo.gl/KU7x3hpmXF5rNfCP9 https://photos.app.goo.gl/GXqZCPGzihAunuQW6

Hey all, So, I replaced AC components yesterday on my 01 24v which got rid of the compressor squealing from an out of round bearing. Sounded great and was cold as ice. Drove home and now it’s a high pitched (bearing squeal) noise again… Manual warned about a bad fan clutch hurting compressor and I disregarded that (oops). Anyone ever have this happen in such a short amount of time? Or do you think it's maybe another pulley and it's just coincidence a different one went right as everything sounded fine with the new compressor before driving home?

I'm trying to find out what the resistance range is for the fuel level sender in my 98.5. It works okay, but I seriously dislike the typical alinearity. Amazingly it is the original, just under 298,000 miles, but it is dangerously low on fuel by the time it reads 1/8 tank. You will be walking before it hits E. I want to switch over to a capacitive fuel level sensor for greater accuracy and no moving parts. I searched this forum and online and one source says 3.8 ohm full, 103.8 empty, but not sure I trust that. I found for a 2001 it is 20 ohms full, 220 empty. I know there are differences in fuel modules & fuel level senders at least between older an…

I bought a set of brand new 3rd gen Dodge AMP Research Power Steps and the Tyca Industries 2nd gen conversion kit to mount them on my 01. The magnetic switches that come with the Tyca conversion kit was wired as instructed - solid purple to left door magnetic switch, and purple/yellow to right door magnetic switch, and then the 2nd wires from each magnetic switch went to a known good ground. Neither step is working from them, so I pulled those POS magnetic switches out. For the 3rd Gen Dodges, they use a posi-loc terminal to tap into each door ajar switch at each door - solid purple for left front door, purple/grey for left rear door, purple/yell…

I've slowly been buying parts for my '01 but never seem to have the time to do the install. I work in AK during the summer and run a commercial fishing boat but had to return after just two weeks due to some health issues my wife was having. Since I was now home (first summer in 19yrs and boy is it HOT in Chico CA during the summer, 108 +/- often), I figured I'd take the time do get some parts replaced, starting with some 3.73 gears. My buddy who is a former GM tech was in between jobs so I hired him to help with gear set install. Well, the Motive D70 3.73 gear set did NOT fit my trucks carrier as we could hardly get a pattern in the paint as the ring gear a…

I decided to ditch the thermostatic switch on my auxiliary trans cooler with fan and wire a switch into the cab instead. I got cute and ordered a push button switch with a fan symbol and blue LED backlighting. Can anybody tell me (or draw on a napkin) the best best way to wire this to a relay? Should I be using a standard Bosch 5 pin relay or something different. The wires in the pic are as follows: Black-negative Green-closed White- normally open Blue- normally closed Red-positive

I need to find my AC leak. it only works for about a week. I replaced the evap several years ago and hope that I don't have to do that again. I have a sniffer but can't find a leak and it has dye in the system and I used the special UV light and glasses and not seeing it. starting to think compressor shaft or evap again. I saw an isolating kit https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FConditioning-Automotive-Detector-Detection-Compressor%2Fdp%2FB07TYCT8M7&psig=AOvVaw3rwrF9QbMclVBmsU7ayrgG&ust=1685844090532000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CA8QjhxqFwoTCJik39aApv8CFQAAAAAdAAAAABAF M…

I need to replace my headlights as I have polished them far to many times and would like some real world experience from people that have used them. I am in a budget but don't want the cheapest out there. I have about 250 buck to blow and don't want to do it twice. What I have decided on is the clear lens euro style with halogens. I have spent far to much time reading forums and searching the internet and it is just overwhelming . The biggest deal is that they need to be adjustable from the front and if two piece where the adjuster moves only the headlight is any better then one piece. I don't drive my beloved truck at night very often because I live in a high deer popu…

  17. I’m finally getting around to installing a Derale 15870 I’ve had in the garage for a while. I’m not stressing the trans as is, and honestly I’ve noticed temps staying lower (or more consistent) with just the addition of the Mag Hytec deep pan, so I’m a believer. Couple of questions to run by the group. 1.) I’m considering routing the hot oil to the remote cooler first, then to the factory cooler up front. My logic being that’ll mean less hot air being dumped over the intercooler, radiator, and engine. Would the heat transfer mitigation be enough to justify doing it that way and are there any plumbing considerations that would make this a bad idea? 2.) In an effort to redu…

Well I figured out why my back door lower latch wasn't latching. The big hole rusted through the lower door let water and crud in there and rusted the latch mechanism. So I'm going to remove the latch and see about freeing it. Has anybody replaced their lower door skins?

My truck came with a very handy storage compartment/separator under the rear seat it prevents things from sliding around and out the doors. It looks factory installed. Seems to be a rare option I've never seen another truck with it. I just wonder what it was called and which trucks got it.

  20. My seat belt has 3 wires going to it. What do I need to do to get the seat belt light to go out in the instrument cluster?
