2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Blew a water pump. I think the antifreeze caused the alternator belt to slip. Check gauges light came on. Voltmeter went to 0. I was surprised as most voltmeters are reading entire system voltage and batteries are still up. Does the dodge voltmeter just read alternator out put? On a related subject. I only get 50,000 miles on NAPA new water pumps. This truck and my older 1st gen also. Is that typical pump life for these pumps?

Today I was inspecting my spare tire and noticed this rod with one end attached to the drivers side rear axle but nothing was hooked to the other side. I looked it up online and found out it is a rear height sensing valve that proportions the rear brakes according to the load in the bed. I read that some people buy a bypass hose or zip tie it in an upright position to increase rear braking power. What position should I put it in? It has been hanging straight down for who knows how long. Should I just secure it to the rod and keep it in that position? Straight up? Parallel to the frame?

I Have NO trailer wiring harness. I am in need of a 7 way, with brake controller. I plan to buy a 4 way, simple factory plug into brake light, style connector. Couple that with a universal 4 way - 7way adapter. I DO have a factory brake controller plug under dash behind the e-brake area. Most instructions point to wiring the B+ and brake control wires directly to the controller and battery respectively, adding 40amp fuse for B+. I have found the factory blue controller wire and the B+ wire, already connected to a 40A fuse. Both wires are terminated at the 2 wire harnesses located behind the drivers side fender well. One harness has the blue wire on engine side of plug wit…

Well jacking my truck up and doing a check it would seem the ball joints on my passenger side are about shot. Not to mention how my steering is starting to pull to the left pretty bad. I figure with all the miles this thing has on the clock its about time to give the front end a good go through. So while I am going to give everything a good check I am wondering what brands people recommend on these trucks? I have used Moog in the past on passenger cars for idler arms, ball joints, tie-rods, etc. Heck I even used the el cheapo Duralast ball joints in a Mustang 5.0 and they seemed to hold up fine but then again that car didn't deal with near the amount of weight and ab…

  5. The back quarter panel of my truck is stained black from the smoke. It was that way when I bought it. I don't mind it being like that in between washing but when I do wash it I would like for it to scrub off. Didn't know if there was a special product out there that would take it off without hurting the paint. If I can get it off I have thought of probably putting a turn down on it and not worry about it again. Thanks

For a week or two at least, lol. Back in December a gal made a wide turn and ran her mirror down the side of my bed and back door. It didn’t hurt the truck but it did mess up my wrap. The color I was using is no longer in production so the insurance is paying to have my whole truck wrapped a new color. I won’t say what color yet but the truck should be easier to see when it’s done as this is the second time I’ve had this kind of incident. They gave me a rental rig too, 22 Ram 1500 CC with a V6. It’s nice and all, but it’s no Cummins.

  7. Has anybody experience this electrical problem, both went down at same time, check fuses and both are good??

Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed a couple of instances where the air coming out of my vents seems extremly restricted. There is a little bit of air coming through is not normal. As I move the fan speed switch I can here the blower motor speed up and slow down accordingly. The vent selection makes no difference as it will vent air where Ihave it selected. Cold or Hot, no difference there either. It didn't work all weekend, but when I got in this morning the air blew very strong?? I assume that the problem will come back. It has been cold and wet here, but nothing record breaking. Could this be a symptom of a bad blend door? Any feedback would be much…

Anyone got a picture of the heater blend door actuator with the cover removed, I think the truck I'm working on has a gear missing, my guess is some not so bright person has popped the cover off to try to figure out why the heater temp control doesn't work and a pile of guts dropped out, the clue here is that I found one gear under the carpet along with a pin.

Is it normal for some amount of slow leaking on the airbags? I put mine on new a couple mos. ago and loose about 10 lbs a week or so.

Any problems with my thought process ? Slowly build up the truck over next 5+ years. Might have 300000 on it. If it requires rebuild have it done say $6k for slightly over stock. Drive for another couple years and then get new paint body work say $6k. Then also do interior work say $3k. So in 7-10 years I would have a rebuilt engine.with say 100k on it - a brand new custom paint job and new interior. Basically a MINT looking 2001 in the year 2022 - still running almost new and just normal maintenance and upkeep for about $15k - and 10 years of use .... Rather than going out and buying a newer model truck. I'll be upgrading the front end here shortly anyways , as well as 3…

My A/C, when left on after I cut the the truck off and restart it, sometimes resumes in the defrost mode and then after moving the truck, it will return to the normal mode for Max Air. It will not return to the Max Air mode by just rotating the dial. Please advise.

Well my ball joints have finally decided they've had enough. 174,XXX miles I can't complain. I can complain about Dodge's ingenious idea to rivet them in though! So who has done this? Is it a huge PITA or not too bad. Truck is a 2wd dually. I found some moog joints from rockauto.com for $350.00 shipped. Deciding to do it myself or pay for it to be done.

  17. Shouldn't dodge rear brake adjustment starwheels be right and left, in other words one has right hand thread and one has left hand thread? Is it possible to reverse them side to side so brakes don't auto adjust? I haven't had these apart yet, but it seems to me that I am turning starwheels backwards to adjust brakes out!

  18. I've got an ECM that no longer powers the lift pump on an 02 24v Cummins HO. I replaced the VP44 and hotwired the aftermarket lift pump (airdog raptor) to test. Manually supplying power to the lift pump and bleeding injectors did the trick, so now I need to wire it in properly. I read the article on RF noise with aftermarket lift pumps, so I'll modify the harness with a .1 Mfd Orange drop capacitor and modify the pump when I have it out again. Given that my ECM lift pump circuit is DOA, where should I grab a trigger voltage to engage the lift pump relay? I am looking at the light green and black wire carrying ignition…

my gauges started acting funny today, all gauges drop all lights come on and trip/odometer flashes. im going to check for bad connection on the gauge cluster in a few min. but i have a bad feeling that its the PCM. Anyone else have this problem or have any ideas? also alternator is still charging(fuel pressure does not drop, it drops 2psi with key on/ engine off) and no performance problems.

So pulled the 35's and aluminum wheels off of the truck (got a set of 2017 takeoffs with 300-400 miles), first trip on the freeway and the death wobble started. as I drive the truck daily put a track bar in it the next day. But the front end still feels sloppy, not necessarily in the steering wheel but I can feel every little bump in the floor under my clutch foot when it is resting on the floor. Overall the truck is definitely way better with proper sized tires that it was engineered for. Next, its raining again in seattle, I stop at the grocery store on my way home for my wife, every thing is fine. I get back in the truck to leave, the first time I gentl…
