I ended up buying a 2007 Montana 3500rl 5th wheel. It's really nice and seems like something I can live in without feeling too much like trailer trash. Lol. $26,000. It's totally cherry. Has like 200 miles on it and has been thoroughly gone through by a retired RV guy doing it as a sideline. It weighs about 10k empty. Not sure my truck is up to the task, but it's only going 30 miles and being parked. NADA is $29,000 and change. Big features are 4 slides, living room that has sliding doors to close it off, cold weather package, nice free standing oak dining table and chairs, desk in living room for computer. Living expenses will will be pretty low. Renting an…

While getting my 5er ready for the up coming trip to Catfish Junction I found the AC shroud cracked just about beyond repair and in need of replacement. It has already been partially fiberglassed once and to repair it would coast me as much in matting and resin as it would to replace it. The AC is a Dometic Duo-Therm Brisk Air ,new style, 13500btu. I have found three suppliers of this shroud: 1 Camping World, 2 Icon Direct (thru Amazon), and 3 Dometic ( thru Amazon). My question is: 1 has anyone replaced the shroud on their AC unit, 2 who did you buy it from, and 3 what was the quality of the replacement shroud?

I am currently sitting in the camper in my driveway and continue to be impressed by my Lifeline GPL-6CT's. We are staying in the camper right now because our hardwood floors are being redone. I don't like to let the batteries sit on the converter after they are charged so on Wednesday I turned off the battery switch. The battery volt meter is powered by the converter so it's still on and 48 hours after charging stopped my batteries are at 13.16V!! They aren't cheap but they do work really well!

We have a rental, which she wants me to move into...but what would I do with a 2,000+ sf house? It would cost me thousands to furnish it...starting from zero. So my current thought is to buy a travel trailer bumper pull in the 35' range. They come basically furnished...even with a flat screen tv. Just buy some bedding, pots and pans, dishes and that's about it. Does anyone have suggestions on brand/model? New to a few years old. I'd like to keep the cost down, but financed the payments on a $35,000 unit are pretty affordable. I want a bedroom and no other bunks. Multiple slides would make it feel more spacious. I'd live in it for an undetermined amount of tim…

Not really virgin but am to this truck and trailer. (I've towed a 20 something foot wells cargo with a 460cc Ford when I did roofing). Anyway, here are my questions. I just picked up a 33' fifth wheel travel trailer. Dual axles, 8400lbs dry. My truck. 98.5 24v with a bhaf and 4" straight pipe. 285/16 tires. 1. On the way home the truck had a hard time on hills. For example. Went from 65mph down to 45mph on a moderate grade hill. About a half mile long hill. Rpms were about 2800 the whole way up the hill and I was slightly worried about what egt's might have been. I do not have any gages. 2. I had adjusted trailer brakes from my controller to just s…

Have any of you ever camped at Ft Robinson near Crawford NE. We are meeting siblings there in June and just wondered if anyone could make suggestions on the best site to reserve. The description says all sites are shaded Thank you for any input you can offer.

  10. Has anyone else had trouble with floor covering in TT cracking in cold weather. Know how to help prevent this short of maintaining warmer temps in TT

Looking back at some old threads I see some that have installed the Harbor freight RV solar kit, I was thinking of going the same route, just wondering if any pros or cons with that kit/ anything I need to upgrade? I plan on making it portable, but one thing I would like to do is wire in a inverter so all the 120 outlets would be available for power. Just looking for some input. thanks also plan on using to 6v batteries They are about 215 ah. I hope the 45w panels are enough for charging, but I do have a generator for back up if needed.

I like to go down the less traveled roads/ places where time seems not to matter. Most of all I love mountain back roads and love to camp in national forest, hidden away places. Is there a GPS that will give me a decided advantage for this type of traveling?

so i can't for the life of me find out why im popping fuses in my TT. it's odd. it's the main power fuse, only a 30 amp... seems light to me. but when it pops there in no lights, no radio, the trailer is dead unless plugged in or generator running. no battery operated things work. i've traced wires no shorts. it pops sometime after i start the generator to charge the batteries. when i shut the generator off, the trailer is dead, i replace that fuse. all is fine again... and it's only when i start the gen from inside, if i use the button on the gen it's self it doesn't pop the fuse. and the wire seems oddly small for being the main power for the wh…

Ok guys, try not to laugh to much, but when it comes to weight distribution on trailers, I'm a noob. Even more embarrassing is I'm only hauling a sander in a crate a little over 300lbs on a 5x8 utility trailer. Single axle trailer that weights around 600lbs. I'm just curious as to where I should try and place the sander on the trailer to make sure it rides the best for the 1000 mile road trip I'll be making next week. My thoughts so far were to have it centered (duh!) on the trailer and slightly more forward of the axle that way a bigger majority of the weight would be on the tounge of the trailer/truck and not the back of the trailer. Is this right? Anything …

My furnace exhaust started making a flutter sound. Hearing that while my tool box was open I thought it sounded like a factory label from inside was half stuck flapping inside the exhaust. I noticed a small label blowing against the exhaust screen, grabbed my needle nose pliers and pulled out a label about 1/2X 2 inches. It did not stop the noise of the distinctive fluttering sound. Weird as the sound prompted me to pull this thing out of the exhaust but wasn't the problem. Now this flutter sound outside in the exhaust has not gotten any better and when inside the camper makes a good rumble sound. Anyone know anything to help what to look for/ take…

This morning I'm bring the RV over to the guest house to dump the waste tanks. Everyone knows you start with your black tank then switch to the grey tank(s) after the black is emptied. Right off the bat I pull the rod completely out of the black tank knife valve. (Oh Flippin' Great!) I'm off to New Meadows, ID to pick up a new valve and install it. At least I had the luck of the draw and the valve opened and dumped. Instead of yanking the rod out without dumping. (Ewwww! that would be nasty!). Just another adventure of turning wrenches I guess.... Also got to check the wheel bearing I've got one creating a squeak now... Not a good sign...

This is a future mod I'd like to do when spare fund are available. I'm really getting tired of packing along all kinds of lumber and blocks for the trailer tongues. I've seen some industrial trailers with a handy drop foot then you don't need to find a round of firewood or large wood block to place under the jack to unhitch. Seem like I'm going through wood blocks fast because they are left on the ground to absorb moisture and rot. So I found a handy trailer tongue jack that will lift my RV to my BigTex without a wood block on the ground. https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Jack/etrailer/TJDA-5000S.html

Hey guys, I know this is bit of a 'who cares' sort of question but was just curious what receiver locks you all were using? I mainly ask because I want to make sure I'm getting one that's not only a decent lock, but also strong enough to handle the loads these trucks can haul! Just from looking around, I saw on etrailers they have ones like these that seem to be a good option https://www.etrailer.com/Locks/Bulldog/BD580400.html what do you all think?
